Thank you all for waiting so patiently! I do apologize for the Extremely long wait! But do I have some news for you!

Kokojo and I have been working feverishly on our patches and we've both met with degrees of success and failure, but we do have a product to finally show you! (Well... he does, Mercenaries *Thanks to a Last Second new glitch in the Text Editor!!!* is a bit un... readable in places, replaced by Inexplicable Kanji!) but if you reference the threads while you play that should help (except weapons, I apologize for not keeping you all up to date on the Sweeping changes to the weapon system!)

So without further ado, I present to you the first official TEST Demo of Mercenaries!!

(Please keep in mind this is a work in progress, most sprites are unchanged, a few events, even Along the way to Dorter are unfinished! As such though, I do highly encourage you try another ofy our files with an actual team to get a feel for the new classes and weapons, all of 1.3's Random's have been lifted for just this purpose! Enjoy!

And to my partner in all of this Kokojo! Please check out his vastly different and wildly unique patch of his own, Call of Power!!

Now, please don't get your hopes up! The game, while playable to an extent is still riddled with bugs, but what I want most from you fellows is feedback, so I should probably make well... a feed back thread.

Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 12, 2009, 06:03:40 pm
Haha! Fort Zeakden is not going to stay that way, that's a placeholder (oddly enough the placeholder is the actual Zeakden...) for a one event thing, which draws the whole moment together. Also Save before you leave the academy (savestate) I forgot a very large glitch in Gariland/

Sadly it's not playable on the PSP. I tried with every possible POPs and it didn't work. it freezes when you go to take the first action. I'll keep trying though.

Also, the Gariland battle is not only difficult, Rad appears with Ramza's sprite. But I noticed your using the red ramza!  :D
Title:

Yes, I fixed that in the patch right above (I did right...?) the original patch isn't reliable really.

ANOTHER HUGE PROBLEM! bah, sorry...

When I try to attack with Lavian in Mandalia Plains, it glitches ePSXe. Also with certain skills, ex. Spin Fist, Dark Sword, ANY Invoker abilities.

Also the Rune Mages skill's are back to being called "Potion, Hi-Potion, etc."

There's another bug your gonna wanna fix, this one makes the game unplayable.

Rad joins after Gariland? I don't think he's supposed to. Also, after Gariland, Ramza fucks up, and appears as a space of nothingness, with 0 stats.
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 12, 2009, 09:30:21 pm

As I said in CoP thread, I so wish I was done of exams... I will have to wait until Wednesday to give this a run, and I am REALLY looking forward to it. Congratulations on all your hard work leading to this patch and continued success in the future. I will definitely provide plenty of feedback when I can play through. I guess by then I will have the benefit of a slightly less buggy demo, which isn't such a bad thing :)
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 12, 2009, 11:48:42 pm
Please don't look forward to it, go in with the lowest expectations possible, this is still relatively unplayable, and I probably made a mistake thinking this was a good idea to release.
Title:
Post by: beawulfx on April 12, 2009, 11:53:05 pm
I don't have any intense expectations. You may notice I am an overly kindly gentleman, and I am just very appreciative of the work all you guys are doing on your patches. I'm still a little obsessed with this game after so many years, and finding this board and seeing work like this being done is just outstanding to me. I think you are all very ambitious and I personally couldn't be more thankful for anything released because it's a chance to play my favourite game ever in a totally new way. So regardless of how far along the patch is or how buggy it may be I will be very happy and very impressed I guarantee it. You seem like a very modest guy, which is not a bad thing, but know that many people (or at least myself) are just very appreciative and excited to see the progress that goes on here, and to even get a glimpse of what Mercenaries has to offer is a treat for me.

End rant, but yeah, I am certainly not going to be harsh on your work or be disappointed, I promise you that! Nothing but thanks from me and some feedback if you still need it by then.

Title:
Post by: Verdeni on April 13, 2009, 09:37:43 pm
Oh... poor LD... ><

I ran into this problem with Move Find Item. I believe the problem, LD, is that your "OVER_RUNNING" the text.

Basically, clearly it only affects Ability names. You've used too much extra text on Ability names. You might end up having to shorten the names of some of your skills. They might be tooo long, I find it's easier to always try to keep the Ability's names with generally the same amount of text.
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 13, 2009, 09:39:06 pm
That is probably it... but Melonhead has said he's already fixed the problem, now once he releases this fix...

Original FFT, would be preferable.
Title:

By the way, LD...sorry to ask this but is the demo first battle immediately skipped to FORT Zeakeden??
Title:
Post by: beawulfx on April 16, 2009, 11:02:27 pm
Yes it is, that will be the first battle in Mercenaries. (As far as I know of course)
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on April 16, 2009, 11:34:16 pm
Oh...i see. After that battle?
Means start of Chapter 2?
Sorry, I haven't got time to try it.
Title:
Post by: beawulfx on April 16, 2009, 11:38:38 pm
I'm not sure how Mercenaries will be incorporating the whole 'chapter' aspect. Game starts at Zeakden for your first battle, then you go to Gariland and meet up with Gaf/Rad, then you go to Mandalia to save Lavian, then Sweegy to the 'competition/tournament' there and then to Dorter to get ambushed! That's all the demo patch story battles if I am correct.
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on April 17, 2009, 12:57:36 am
Oh...i see.
Okay, thanks alot beawulfx ^^
Cause i thought something is wrong when everything is black and people talking.
Then immediately start battle which fly to the last battle of Chapter 1, Fort Zeakeden.
Anyway, thanks.

Post by: jimmyjw88 on April 17, 2009, 11:22:40 pm

Ok, LD. Thanks alot.
Haven't got time to test the demo yet. But it's sure an interesting patch ^^

Title:
Post by: mav on April 25, 2009, 03:40:19 pm
I just downloaded the demo and played through a bit. The story and dialog are exquisite, the jobs are gonna take some getting used to, but the seem quite innovative. My only concern is that the emulator--or something--crashes randomly. For instance, after the second battle (first time you get to use Gafgarion and Rad) the game froze for quite a while after the battle ended: the emulator stopped running and my computer froze, after about a minute or two the emulator kicked back up (Vista is a bitch and won't let me close things as they start to crash) and I continued the game. Then I proceeded to the Lavian fight, a similar problem occurred: as I was about to attack with Lavian my entire computer crashed, I got a blue screen, and the computer restarted. Thankfully my computer's back up and running fine, but I decided to let you know about this problem right now before I cause some serious damage.

These seem pretty significant, and I'm not sure what the cause is. My computer is brand new and this is the first time I've played a patched game on ePSXe. This entire project looks quite promising, so I hope to hear what's up soon. Best of luck to all you.

EDIT: Well, after my computer crashed twice while I was trying to edit this post, I'm thinking it was actually an issue related to my power supply, triggered by the emulator. Anyhow, I'll let you know if anything else happens that might require your attention. Great work on this project; you've made a fan of me.
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 26, 2009, 02:14:14 am
I had heard that... but that is a glitch I fixed some time ago, it isn't in the final version, also the glitch was a lot less... damaging... it caused the game to freeze yes, but that was the extent to what the damage was, I find it strange that it would occur in such a way...  though I hope it hasn't been too large of a deterrent for you. I am glad to see you like the project so far!

EDIT: Yes, Melonhead released his fix, but I'd like to do a lot of other things before I release another version of the TEST demo.
Title:
Post by: mav on April 26, 2009, 08:50:29 am
No, it's no big deal--like I said, it was actually an issue with my power supply, but perhaps something within those scenes required a little more power? I have no idea. Anyway, it's a phenomenal project; I'll be lurking around keeping an eye out for some more goodies you guys have to release.
Title:
Post by: JuAn on April 26, 2009, 04:21:32 pm
so you do have a version without the text problem? but its not out yet. right?

And Algus's events (and eventually the Igros castle events) from vanilla began to play after the Lavian fight, I assume you've been notified of that too.
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on April 26, 2009, 08:03:10 pm
That's not really a glitch, if you notice all other event except Gariland and the opening are only battle events. This makes thing easier for my planning process.

hi lasting dawn. i'm a really big fan of tactics and i've checked out your testing videos via Voldemort7's playlist, i'm really excited about it myself. i just downloaded the mercenaries test demo and i was wondering do u open it with the psx emulator like all other games or is there something i need to do in order for me to play it. i just can't wait to try it. thanks :)

Well, first you have to get PPF O Matic, which you can download from the main section of the site under Miscellaneous, from there patch the... patch with a Clean ISO (unmodified ISO) of FFT, then that should be all you need. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

LastingDawn I'm trying out mercenaries and I found this glitch. I don't know if you know about it or not but the White Mage (I don't remember what you guys renamed it to, sorry) had something called "Tumulteous" something or other that when I checked it it said it gave the effect "Reraise" but when it was used gave "Berserk" so far that's all I've found wrong.

Text edits i think are not 100% complete. So things may not do when they are described to do. Rely on this sub-forum to give you information.

Descriptions are not done... at all in the TEST Demo. Skills are, as you can say.

I might be completely missing something, but I read through the topic and found no explanation...

Is Wish supposed to be a roided up attack of doom that takes away 999 on every bad guy? Because it just seemed off to me haha.

Wish is a debug tool, to skip the battle quickly to test out events. Use it if you wish, it is not advised though.

Also, if you get pissed off, you can always wish Algus dead.

You using wish in that sentence was win.

I figured there was no way it was an accident. It was too tempting to use it on Algus >_> but after that I beat it fairly. This is pretty damn impressive and I can't wait for the finished product.

When can we expect a update on this
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on May 08, 2009, 01:06:51 am
Ah, well currently I've been updating all the rest of the weaponry and armor per suggestions and adding in new weapon types for Warder (Bec De Corbin ) and Whips for an assortment of classes. After all those are complete, I'll be releasing this same demo... with those updates, once that's finished, I'll get to the Real Demo with playable content past Dorter.

Post by: LastingDawn on May 08, 2009, 02:00:11 am
Ah, well about that... the actual Demo has little to do with the next events, the real demo is a parody basically of the first chapter of Mercenaries. A series of battles with the new addition of Squolar the Mindflayer Scholar, to explain in full about the new classes, weaponry, etc. The next demo will just be another release of this (with a few things fixed) with the equipment finished.

so... were talking more than a week
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on May 09, 2009, 02:19:09 am
Much... more then a week, though I am almost finished with Weaponry, currently updating books and adding a number more of them in (they'll be more like their FF3 counterparts of Elemental powering) At least the first three anyhow, if all goes according to plan I should finish weapon tonight.

Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on May 19, 2009, 07:59:24 pm
It is strange that you mention that, I was just about to make a post myself, once I get finished with all the text editing (on abilities and items) I will rerelease the TEST Demo, which will include a number of fixes, a few new random fights, and of course the Fully Completed Mercenaries Equipment! So keep aware, then after that is completed I can start preparing the real demo, but you won't hear word of that for at least another month, once I rerelease the TEST Demo Complete.

Jobs have been finished for some time now, quite some time, come to think of it...

I'm having a slight problem with setting up Random Battles, and I can't really advance until I solve it.

Setup an odd glitch I hadn't noticed until just a week ago, well not really a glitch, but something the game forces, if there's no way around it I'll just have to think of another method.

I hate to come across as urging rushing, but my curiosity has gotten the better of me.  How much farther do you have to go until you can release the Test Demo you mentioned in that quote?  Or did I somehow miss it?  Are there going to be text fixes with it so there doesn't have to be a lot of cross-referencing?
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on July 16, 2009, 08:21:36 pm
Actually the TEST Demo has been scrapped, as it's little more then a rehash of what I had done earlier, it's really not worth the effort, what is being worked on currently is a Training Demo which will be an introduction the the way Mercenaries works, displaying most of the new classes, showing the new battle formation dealings, as well as a humorous parody ofChapter 1, in Mercenaries.

That is a fantastic idea.  I'm extremely eager to see it.  You have no idea how hard it is to contain my excitement every time I look through the information of your patch.  (Though... the threads could use a bit more updating and organization for ease of navigation, but hey, it's the patch that matters.)

Title:
Post by: Fein on October 03, 2009, 12:22:46 pm
Sooo, is there a way to host the most current demo?
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on October 03, 2009, 12:28:03 pm
The most current? Playability is the important part, with Rad and Ramza being the prime focus, I can't just throw in a Vanilla scenario and tell the player to "have at it". I need to calculate everything, so that it's not only playable, but enjoyable to the player, it's a difficult balancing act.
Title:
Post by: Fein on October 03, 2009, 01:13:39 pm
Well, what I mean is: is their a more recent, already made/released demo out there?
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on October 03, 2009, 01:28:47 pm
Well... there is the monster battle savestate, but you need to jump through a few hoops to get that working (PSXfin and Extended ISO)
Title:
Post by: Sephirot24 on October 03, 2009, 01:30:05 pm
Not yet, but Sir LD is preparing a "Training Demo" :)
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 03, 2009, 03:59:56 pm
Sorry disturbing again , but I can't make the demos works.

>I use the PPF O-matic 3.0 to join the ppf file with a iso file.
But it not works and I don't know how make a extended iso.

>The only thing who works was the Monster Battle Demo.
For This I'm using the PSXFIN emulator and the LD savestate(PSV file).

>Please, if somebody have a tutorial or something like this please post...Thanks!
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on October 03, 2009, 04:14:13 pm
Do you have an extended Iso?
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 03, 2009, 04:23:12 pm
Yes, I download the extended iso (program) in the site, but it is in .PPF too. :(

To play the PPF's you have posted I'm trying this:

>Use the PPF O-Matic 3.0 to associate the PPF with an ISO file.
The PPFs file are posted in this topic, they are posted by you.
But I don't known what ISO I will use to associate with the PPFs files I already have. :?:

>I will continue to try by myself, if i'm sucessed I tell you.

Tanks sr.LD
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 03, 2009, 05:14:53 pm
Quote from: "LastingDawn"It is the Sprite Editor, yes. Once you load your iso into the Sprite Editor it asks to restructure the ISO which in turn expands the ISO.

I think this is the stuff i need to make the extended iso, so where i find it?
post it tom me please.
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on October 03, 2009, 05:31:25 pm
Go to the "Latest Patcher" thread and download what's there.
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on October 03, 2009, 07:40:03 pm
Just Open Shishi and Load the ISO.
It will tell you that you need to reconstruct the ISO. = extend ISO.

ISO? Use a clean original FFT ISO.
Title:
Post by: SolidSnakeDog on October 04, 2009, 04:50:43 am
By the way LD, how far we will be able to get in your next demo?
Id just like to get an idia at how much progress u made  :)
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on October 04, 2009, 06:06:47 am
Sir LD doesn't show us all progress in one demo.
He'll just show how the battle works for the next demo.
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 04, 2009, 01:52:45 pm
Okay then, tanks  Mike Mitchi and LD.

Now i gonna test it.
Use the ppf o-matic 3.0 and associate a ppf file with an iso of the original fft, then open this with the Sishi and extend the iso.
Is right this order?

I need known what program I will use and the seps.

If somebody got the answer plese post for me.

Tanks;
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on October 08, 2009, 12:10:53 pm
Alright, for spriting programs, MSPaint is the BEST!
Mostly of us here use MSPaint for spriting. However, you still need programs like GraphicGale or GIMP for palettes editing.
For tutorial on using them (eg GraphicGale), check out tutorial post, where there's a tutorial by mav on GraphicGale.
That's all, I think ^^
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 08, 2009, 02:22:09 pm
Tanks Jimmy but even with the tutorial I can't do this, it's very hard.

I need a tutorial with the entire process.

>In fact, my question is in the part of mspaint, when I need to transform the persons in spirites.
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on October 08, 2009, 10:20:51 pm
Well, you look at existing sprites, you'll get it ^^
How to sprite? Well, pencil, mostly. And how to transform? Well, basically, those spritesheets are basically already sprites.
Title:
Post by: Delano on October 09, 2009, 08:11:30 am
Yes in part, but if I say I want do the spirites from real people?

>You think it's possible?

>When you say they are already spirites, you say to load an spirite from FFT riginal and only edit it?
Maybe by this way I can make the spirites.

Tanks for the help, I will try this one.

PS:IF possible make a video or print some screenshots with the basic steps and post to me(private message or normal post or send to my e-mail.)--(delano_dd1350@hotmail.com)

>I known this is much to wish, but is the best way to explain the

Hey Delano. IDK much about spriting but I advice you to continue this discussion in the "Spriting" Thread. There's a lot of info there, and you have a higher chance of getting the answers you need there.

Besides, you're changing the topic here. Teh mods are gonna get you.

I'm already looking for help in the help section.
