Please use this topic for any bug reports on TLW 2.031 going forward.

While its great to hear about the bugs on discord, it will get lost.

- Fixed bug with Cloud/Aerith events dialogue
- Re-added song titles and descriptions to sound test menu
- Fixed issues in 3 Sound Novels that could have caused soft lock
- Fixed a bug with the difficulty hack affecting benched units level
- Fixed a Continue+ bug with biographies of some characters
- Fixed description on Bremondt's 'Holy Priest' job

Minor visual bug:

It seems I didn't put down enough Wait time after BlueRemoving Caazan in Be a Beta, and the game doesn't wait for it to finish before returning to battle. If Caazan had the next turn, he and his stat window will briefly appear on screen before the BlueRemoval finishes. This confused the real Caazan for a minute when he finally killed himself.

Should probably update that Wait(00010) to Wait(00045) or something.

Just wanted to ask how to fix the Balthier Cutscene on slums in dorter, after ramzas dialog, the next actions or movement of the characters does not seem to work, already patched a clean iso with 2.03 and mappack. please help. appreciate it

This issue is not related to TLW. If you added anything on top of it, its out of my hands at that point.

i got the same problem as Ferdorf the game is not respond after the thief ambush ramza in Balthier event. already patched a clean iso with 2.031 please help. thank you

So, after reports of the issue on regular TLW, and a provided save file, I did some digging. This is is likely an issue because your Ramzas have names that are less than five letters long.

When the dialogue boxes auto-close, it's after waiting for a space bar to be printed, giving players time to actually finish reading the dialogue. However, printing it makes an audible text printing sound as it closes. I tried to get clever and wait for the dialogue to ALMOST finish printing, then mute the text printing sound.

So I put a check on the variable that reports how many letters have been printed, and waits for it to reach the very end of the dialogue.

Then I tested it... with Ramza named Ramza. 45 letters of dialogue.

If Ramza's name is four letters long, the game sees 44 letters printed. And then it just keeps waiting.

The best short term fix I can think of, if you don't know how to edit/replace events with the Resources build, would be to use a save file editor (or maybe some kind of gameshark code?) to change Ramza's name for this one battle.

If you're comfortable with uploading your memory card file and can mention which slot your Balthier save is, I can also just toss in some half-spaces and send it back - it'll look normal in most cases, except maybe when a character actually says Ramza's name out loud.

yes, needs to be at least 5 characters with the current build.

I've tested this event at all speeds and with a completely blanked out name. Seems to work fine now. I just set the message wait to pretend that Ramza has no name at all, so it will mute slightly too early rather than risk softlocking. Given that it tends to line up with the timing of the music change and the action scene, I don't think anyone will even notice.

Damn. 4 letters huh?  After realizing this bug 30 hours into my current playthrough, I'm thinking of another 4 letter word right now. Lol.

If your save file is in .gme format, it seems FFTastic (http://www.m-l.org/~greerga/fftnet/fftastic/main.html) can edit it. Otherwise, you can feel free to send it to me and I'll add some half-spaces that will allow you to unlock him (even if characters saying Ramza's name will sometimes look a bit weird from then on).

MemCardRex (https://github.com/ShendoXT/memcardrex) can convert your save file to .gme if it isn't already in that format, and can then convert it back to the desired format after editing the save. Always make a backup, of course.

Thank you that's a very generous offer.  I may take you up on that. I don't really have much in the way of technical expertise for editing game parameters. Gme?  Ehhhgg.   I am using open emu emulator and it's got kind of a janky save setup.  Actually I couldn't even tell you what format it uses.  Still there may be a way to convert it to gme. I'm sure there's a way to make that work.

I just completed the game.  Love all the work you guys have put into this. Clearly a labor of love and one I am all to glad to experience. 

One quick question. I unlocked shadow stitch for Ashley Riot. Not sure what skill set it's under as it traditionally fell under assassin use hand ability. Thank you!

I am having a new issue. I just finished the 3rd battle in riovanes castle and I keep crashing right after the scene when Ramza picks up the stone and says "Alma..." I've tried fresh installs and still having same issue.

Btw I am using duck station for emu

I noticed a bug with the squire's "Monster Skill" ability.

It's suposed to allow friendly monsters acquire 1 new skill within 3 cells from the character with Monster Skill equiped, but the skill only appears if the monster is directly adjacent to that human character.

In other words, Monster Skill have 1 cell range instead of 3.

You've got all the info! It has only ever worked on adjacent units, the description is worded a little misleadingly (by 3 tiles it means adjacent and up to a height difference of 3).

From the FFT Battle Mechanics Guide

"[Monster Skill] - 200 JP, Squire
Monsters standing on squares adjacent to you will have access to a new
skill (vertical tolerance 3).  This will have no effect if you are
Berserk, Confused, or Unable to Fight."

Hello guys! I am new on this patching psx games but I am having an issue.

I am trying to apply the TLW to the PSX image.
First I tried to patch directly using the lastest version (V2.031) and I was getting an error on the ppf-o-matic3, it was not able to open the file (not sure if this is expected).
Second: Patching first the version 1.02 and then patch using the version 2.031, worked on the ppf software. But when I was trying to run the game, I couldn't pass the opening, after putting my birthday and skipping (or waiting) the opening scene I got a black screen. (tested on epsxe, psx and duckstation, psx throw an error on the log about some kind od physical address access error).
Third: Just patch using the V1.02, I was able to pass the opening scene, will try to apply the v2.031 after passing the opening scene and while on monastery battle using a save state.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, I read the documentation to applying the patch and I think I was doing the steps correctly, but it's my first time trying this, sorry in advance!

EDIT: Re-tested today from a fresh start and I was able to patch and use v2.03 without issues! Seems I was already burned out on my first try haha, thanks for the mod!

You cannot apply any TLW ppf on top of an already patched game, even an old version of TLW. It must always be applied to an unmodified vanilla US bin/iso. If ppf-o-matic isn't recognizing the 2.031 ppf, then your copy has either been modified or corrupted in some way. Re-download the zip file, and before opening it, right click it and open the properties, click the "Unblock" button at the bottom, and hit "Apply". Then extract the file(s) from the zip as normal, and check the extracted ppf file for the same Unblock button as well (it may or may not have it, just unblock it if it does). At that point, the newly-unblocked ppf should work as intended. If you're still getting errors, it may be an anti-virus issue or something, because the source file definitely works.

Finally, it's recommended once you do get the game patched to *not* use epsxe, so stick with psx or duckstation for your playthrough. Let us know if you have any more trouble

Hello,
I've recently patched in vanilla WOL and am loving it.  I seem to have an issue on the over world map though.  While the different sites are seen, the map background itself is blacked out, except when I move between places.  I'm not sure if I missed something, or if it is an issue with the emulator I use.  I am using ePSXe, if that matters.

epsxe is specifically NOT recommended for TLW mods. Use psxfin or duckstation (you can use your existing memory card, just might need to convert it). See the TLW FAQ (https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=12322.0) for more info

This one isn't even specific to TLW, this is a FFT issue in general with ePSXe, which can be fixed, but, as Retro stated above, TLW is not fully compatible with ePSXe

Hello Everyone! I am new and i am having an issue where when i try to find the game on duckstation it cant see it and if i use the system start a file menu it will start the modded game( i am sure i followed the steps correctly, fresh .bin ppf o matic) it plays the start up like a video but i cant select new game or anything with my controller or the keyboard.  Please help also wondering if this site is still active

This is a known issue with Duckstation where it messes with controller settings for non-recognized games (which TLW is, since it changes the game serial). You need to go into your emulator settings and change the "Controller Type" from Analog to Digital Controller

Hey there hackticians, I found a curious selection of bugs during character creation.

- Screenshot 1 showcases a typo.  "Enternyour birthday"
- Screenshots 1, 2, 3, 4 all have partially spelled months (or months smashed together)
- Screenshots 5 indicates that the 12th month option is "O K," and in almost invisible letters below:  "N/A" (I think.  It's hard to tell because the hand cursor floats over it)
- Screenshot 6 Instead of "OK" and "Back" for the confirmation dialogue box (or "Check" box) it has [music note] 1 in place of the confirm option, and a blank section for the go back option.
- No typos for Orbonne pic, but the game locks here and will not proceed beyond this text;

(playing on Duckstation via RetroArch)

   Hello, i just got a bug in the battle where you recruit Balthier.

   In the starting scene where Ramza is caught by thieves, as soon as the first thief appears from the shadows to attack Ramza the game stay stuck in it.
   The game not freezes(you can soft reset normally), but it remains stuck in this scene. The music plays normally too.

   Tried to reapply the patch (downloaded a fresh patch too), tried in multiple game images (maybe some img could be corrupted?) and nothing worked.
   Tested in some emulators (duckstation, psx, epsxe, etc) and the problem remains.

   I have a save before i trigger the event of recruiting Balthier, so i will progress from it without recruiting him.
   Have some files (save states, screenshot) that shows the bug.

   Lastly, I would like to thank the creators of this mod. This mod is really cool and a lot of fun. They did a great job.

In a surprise twist, I tried to re-create this bug.

I patched TLW PPM to a raw Tactics iso.
It ran fine.
I patched TLW movies on top of that patched TLW iso.
It ran fine.

I probably caused this error by mistakenly applying 2.031 to a 1.06

I am sorry for any extra work this may have caused.

Oh sure, thanks for the reply.

As i can see the problem is related to ramza name. There's a small mod that allows you to change character names in the soldier office(this way i can change Ramza name to his original name before trigger the event), so i will do some tests. For now i will use this fix.

Greetings, I have a bug where when my units unlock a new job their have 0 job points in it, it doesn't seen to happen every time though, when Ramza unlocked the Thief class it worked like normal, but most of the time it doesn't. The game also still counts as if I had 100 job points in those jobs.

Edit: I downloaded the Lion War of The Lions and the bug seens to happen there as well.

Edit 2: It apparently happened because I benched those units so it isn't a bug.

Discovery: The Brave Story bug with a unit starting a round with 1 HP is because of using InflictStatus to put a dead Lucavi into the critical animation before exploding them. InflictStatus resurrections prepare the unit to be set to 1 HP when battle resumes, and apparently, that's not when the current sub-event ends, but when the game runs out of sub-events to run. Since switching to the next round is set to immediately follow this revival, the game holds onto that "set the unit in this slot to 1 HP" command until the new round begins.

This is fixable by using UnitAnim and SoundEffect instead of InflictStatus.

is it just me or Rendezvous - Be A Beta have a bug? The enemies always revive again and said he can't defeated if her ally still alive. But i already kill all her allies

I've not seen any other reports of this. Nyzer did pretty extensive testing on it, so I kinda doubt it's broken. Can you share a screenshot or video or something?

I play that at ch 1 and after play be a beta at ch 2, when i win it just freeze like that.
Also skill for Monk and Thief have bug. I already have all monk and thief skill, but not master it

The second part is not a bug. You havent gotten far enough. Please do a bit of reading into what you are playing.

Hello, I ran into a minor visual bug. After the battle with Zalera I decided to add Meliadoul to the party, party was full so I was prompted to select a unit to dismiss, I started scrolling through my units and when I reached my generic Dark Knight his portrait was that of Velius. When I was done and returned to the world map and the formation screen his portrait was the correct one. Thank you for all your work, love the mod.

Edit: So I saw someone else had a similar problem when using these two mods together, so I re-patched a copy with just TLW on it, and I got a similar but different error. This time, the background was present during the text crawl (it was not before), and when it froze, instead of playing the music endlessly, it just played one note endlessly.

Hello, I am playing TLW on Duckstation with the QOL Patch. I am at the battle with Cu Chulainn, and the battle plays out as normal, but after the cutscene with Delita and the text crawl, when the game goes to a black screen, it never loads the next screen, and the music continues to play ad infinitum. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of emulation issue, but I don't know what to try. It has crashed 4 times.

If you're applying the whole QoL pack, you need to reapply the EIUH from the TLW resources after patching the QoL, as it says in the QoL thread. So base ISO -> TLW -> QoL -> EIUH hack. If you're still getting errors after that, let us know.
