...and?  FFTA2 had a bit better gameplay, and FFT is better in every way.

FFTA still has some merit if you give it a grain of salt.

Also I wanted to know the story is the only reason I played it through.

I loathed the story in every way, but the gameplay actually wasn't that bad.

Also, the mission structure > FFT's propositions.

i loved FFTA, i had a moogle with 100 evade and a paladin with 8 move. and a fencer that couldn't be damaged by hardly anything

Yeah I want to give each FF at least one chance. I've already concurred and owned FFTA2. I previously played it, but I saved after the death pit when all my  guys died and didn't come back. I gave up on the game after that.
