Title: Regarding the texture body bg of this forum
Post by: R999 on March 19, 2010, 01:19:49 am
Hey Zodiac, I like the overall look and feel of the forums, but readability could be improved.

This is easy to read, (although I prefer you add more leading)

Compare with the text in this message. Which one is easier on the eyes?

While I liked how it resembles the text dialogues in FFT, keep in mind that in the game the Typography were enhanced with readability (they have a heavier weight, and are much larger). Like this sentence here.

I think it's best to use a different background imo, if you prefer to keep the same font sizes. I would like to have it as an option.

The current texture/font is perfectly legible and non eye-searing to me. If anything, I have a harder time reading FFT's text (probably because my TV sucks... seems much better on an emulator).

Well it's really not bad, but I can tell you it could be improved (by much). I work in the UX Design industry so I touch upon typography in a daily basis. I have provided some Smashing Mag links that you will find useful if you cared enough to improve readability,

This one talks about backgrounds

This one talks about general typography trends of 2009

Trend as in, taking the best practices from the best websites (with a great volume of readers). Not (necessarily) in an aesthetic sense of "trend".

edit: You know what, forget it. When I have time I'll do a mockup of the design and see if Zodiac likes it.
