I noticed certain events couldn't be changed with FFTpatcher...or at least I don't know how to.

Basically, I want Gaff to join after his last battle at the castle gate, but the thing is he automatically crystalizes when you kill him meaning it wont bring up the join screen since he is technically dead and "off the screen" so to speak.

What I'm wondering if It's possible to stop the event where he crystalizes, or at least keep his dead, intact body on the screen? This goes in par with other similar events like Wiegraf before he morphs into a zodiac or even in previous fights where he teleports.

im aware I can
1. turn Gaff into a guest, but it dulls the fight unless I tweak the other enemies
or
2. tweak the enemies and use two enemy Gaffs..sort of like a stunt double. one as the original who crystalizes and another who acts as a regular enemy and actually triggers the join party screen.

but those are my last resorts. if anyone has any suggestions I appreciate them cause im lost lol.

Oh certainly! Glad to see another fan of Gaff here, hehe. Now, in do you know what file Attack.out is?

Just read up on attack.out on a couple sites now that you mention it and it looks like it actually handles in-battle conversation & event conditions...which is exactly what im looking for!

...except I have no idea how to go about actually changing anything. All I got at the moment is a hex editor & fftpatcher.

Alright, if you have a hex editor that's all you need. Now open up Attack.out and go to 15D78 and change the 11 there to 00, then to 15D7C, and change that 11 to 00. That should cancel the event. Best of luck!

basically the wiki along with the japanese wiki, but it was translated poorly (google) so it wasn't much help.
 http://www23.atwiki.jp/fft_cheat/pages/24.html

it gives an example of an event with conversation (first Miluda fight)

edit: oh and http://m-l.org/~greerga/fft/ is a good read too but doesn't have much on attack.out
