Title: FFT: Revised
Post by: Lydyn on April 21, 2010, 10:29:16 pm
Inspiration: The basis of the patch had been the idea of giving each class an exclusive weapon, such as giving samurais only katanas and allowing no one else to wield them besides Samurais. That was the basis anyways, but it's since grown from several ideas both from my own mind and paths other people on IRC have lead me down.

Goal: To provide an alternative battle system to the original game. Changes to almost everything including (but not limited to) items, jobs, monsters, battle events, abilities, special characters, weapons, armor, and battle set-up.

Comments: For now, I'd just like to thank everyone for all the help - and you know who you are! I've been given some awesome ideas and advice concerning the making of this so far and look forward to more suggestions. Thankfully, no one has really suggested anything that's out of place for this patch, so it's nice to know that the community has at least a feel for what I'm getting at. Anyways, without further ado, the changelog!

Glitches

• Weapon in battle sprites (when weapon is being used to attack) is messed up, though it's hard to notice at times. No one has identified a solution yet.

• Crystals and Treasures appear as 'black holes.'

Updates
• v01 to v011: Modified some of the monsters abilities, especially Chocobo.
• v011 to v012: Edited monster HP - Still dangerous, but a lot less 'I'm gonna die' feeling. Also, completely reworked elemental system to reflect Wu Xing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing). Changed all [mage tier] spells to reflect the new element system.
• v012 to v013: ENTD changes up to chapter 2. Replaced Queklain with another boss. Changed saving screen. Got a base done for all monsters.

Note: Make sure to extend your ISO using the newest ShiShi (just open up a clean ISO) before applying this patch or the sprite changes will not occur!

Might want to explain what the skills do.

You made item innate for all units.  I thought about doing that but I was worried that it was too unbalanced.  Have you considered capping the amount of items per battle to keep things from getting out of hand.

Oh, and explain the skills a bit more.  I'm pretty interested in some of them.

Put the descriptions on skills, just as they show up in the game itself.

Edit: About items (potions) ... they're expensive. 'Nough said.

Just threw up a small update. Found out yesterday testing my own patch that a Chocobo was healing for 49 HP when it only had 37 to begin with. Yikes. It's lowered now.

Post by: Kagebunji on April 24, 2010, 09:09:13 am
Actually, after reading everything I wonder if there will be more special classes or only Ramuza and Aguri. And I feel like there is a small amount of jobs in general.
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Lydyn on April 24, 2010, 12:37:04 pm
There's going to be two more special characters, and yes, there's a limited amount of jobs. The exclusive weapon system has seen to this ... though I suppose in reality since there are some classes that share weapons, we could pair up some more classes if that becomes the popular idea.

Post by: Kagebunji on April 24, 2010, 12:44:20 pm
I would love to see more classes. And also I am incredibly curious to see sprite of this Gunblade weapon, or is it recolor of some weapon?
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Lydyn on April 24, 2010, 05:11:18 pm
Recolor of a sword. If I get involved later with it, I may come up with a gunblade sprite, but it's a low priority.

Le major update (as far as betas go)! Reworked the entire elemental system to reflect Wu Xing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing). Mage spells, weapons, and a couple Spellblade spells have been changed to reflect this.

Going to play a battle a day!
Very pretty effects for the skills! I love them!

First battle was over quicker than I knew what was going on..
Rad cowered in the corner for the whole battle, for some reason!
Alicie died and Agrias was poisoned, first turn.
Gafgarion was disabled and Agrias died from poison/crits, second turn.
And Gafgarion died before he did anything useful a couple turns later.

It was Lavian and Ramza against the whole team!
Needless to say, we lost. xD
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Lydyn on April 26, 2010, 07:35:22 pm
Okay, I'm pretty sure it was due to the fact that it was a completely new system to you and that the enemy had all the skills unlocked. I recently told someone that the first battle should never be based on luck either ... so I went ahead and removed the all skills for the enemy and gave you plenty to look over. Why Rad would run away is beyond me, however ... but his AI was always a little strange outside of vanilla. I hope it helps ... once I upload it later tonight. (I'll edit this to let you know.)
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Mari on April 26, 2010, 08:22:19 pm
Nope, I did just fine in the battle. (So did Lavian) As I said, Lavian and I were the only ones fighting.
But two vs a whole team doesn't work in the first battle. We killed most of them, but they had raise and phoenix downs, and lots of long range attacks!

I did it again and won, then did next battle and had no problems, and even the next battle with no problems.
Only thing that seems to be any problems is the weapon sprites for pretty much everything!

Yes, I've posted this up and only one person has commented on the glitch ever working, but hasn't provided a solution for me. So, it might have to be when I get into the sprite editing (more heavily than now) that I might have to try and figure out the battle sprites and how to switch them... it's hard saying.
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Mari on April 26, 2010, 08:56:22 pm
Oh, I do have one suggestion!
All your effects are so pretty from the starting jobs, except one!
Whirlwind!
He just slashes a normal attack at one enemy and somehow every enemy around him gets hit!
Is there anything you could add to that to make it more whirlwindy?
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Lydyn on April 26, 2010, 08:59:34 pm
Unless I make it a Spin Fist animation ... I'm fairly certain there's nothing else that'll work, but since the person is using a weapon, it wouldn't look right either. If you find an animation that might work, lemme know.

Current plans for future updates include replacing Vormav with a female leader (yet to have a name), replacing the rest of the zodiacs with Espers - Alexander included. More ENTD changes, obviously ... more changes to monsters and their skills - which also includes a more deadly bad breath that pretty much does all negative status. Haven't yet, but I'm going to add the oil weak against fire and float weak against wind as well (I don't believe this applies to the movement, however).

Do note there is many more changes than what's listed here - in fact, too many to list. I have reworked classes, job levels, items, prices, monsters, [soon to be] poaching, encounters, elemental system ... and likely a bunch more that doesn't come right to mind. Just be sure to read descriptions and it'll help a lot. Pretend you're playing vanilla for the very first time. =D

Also, Shiva preview/tease;

Damn, this is cool. I just advise to do something with hair, straight copy of Ovelia's hair is not working. Either borrow hair from one of the sprites in main, or do custom one yourself(I would create my own). Good job! Also, zou might want to do something with those dark blues, kinda killing the contrast, and it is too dark.

Not working? How so?

As for the blues .. I can try and make them a little lighter, but if I make them too light, then it's too hard to tell the difference. I suppose I can use the silvers off of her bra.
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: Kagebunji on May 02, 2010, 05:17:03 pm
Make it lighter, and give some green-ish(but REALLY slightly)color to it, Also you might think about using Shrine Knight cloth for the legs, it looks good on Shiva. Damn, too bad I cannot get Asmo's concept.

Ovelia's hair isn't working, this is Ovelia's hair and hers only, it looks just wrong on other sprites. Aim for something more custom.

The "float weak against wind" part of Razele's ASM was confirmed by formerdeathcrops about a month ago to not work at all, so really it's only "oil weak against fire", which is arguably better.

Hmmm...I wonder why that would be.

*remembers testing it and finding out that it didn't seem to work either...then again his Bombs have Always: Float instead of Float movement*

Also, I had thought it was the other way around: that it was supposed to work for Float status but not Float movement.

IMO, if it's only the movement, than that's quite unwanted. But this isn't the thread for that....

I'll mess with it some later and see how the shrine knight... thing works (which sounds like it won't). As for the hair - I just want to point out that 'something custom' is not really within my league of abilities.

I tested floated units + half elemental.  The result was half damage, regardless of where the float came from.  Maybe Razele's ASM is overrode by half status, and that explains my half of the results?

You would be surprised if you would see how good it worked on Asmo's Shiva, it was really good.

Quote from: "Lydyn"As for the hair - I just want to point out that 'something custom' is not really within my league of abilities.
Then just borrow some hair from "custom sprites" page on main. If you would want to give her FF7/9(I don't remeber exactly) look, then borrow Ignis hair.
Title: Re: FFT: Revised
Post by: formerdeathcorps on May 03, 2010, 09:05:49 am
Finished testing.  Razele's formula is fine; the only glitch is that a unit with both oil and float will not take 2x damage from fire because float is checked first.

Razele's hack doubles the damage or hit chance to simulate "weak to" a given element.  However, not all attacks are included.  Elemental weapon attacks (which I used in some of my tests--different formulas are bundled together) and the wave fist formula (which I used in others of my tests--only variable referenced is PA) will not respond to Razele's ASM hack.  I suspect the reason is that he is doubling whatever variable is being referenced as the first (or second/third), which for different formulas may be X or Y.
Consequences:
1) Damage magic will receive double damage.
2) Effect magic that is elemental will have their hit rates go up.
3) Faith effect magic will be affected least of all.
4) Weapon attacks and monk attacks won't be affected.  However, the PA*(WP+Y) and SP*WP formulas will.

Hm. I might borrow the purple, but in all honesty ... I like mine better. Just personal preference I suppose. I will have to edit Shiva's legs just a tad though.

FDC - Thanks, that helps a lot, I'm sure. In the least, it makes it so applying the ASM will work for what I have in mind.

Its been a while now, and I was wondering if you had any more updates and general info for your patch. I like some of the ideas of it and I've been a fan of the slashing/piercing system. Another cool thing is the elemental system you have. Makes the patch unique and a great idea.
