Ramza sprite glitch

I patched the PSX FFT ISO The Lion War v2.031.ppf. Everything was fine until Chapter 2 when map backgrounds stopped showing up. When I went to investigate, I saw Ramza's sprite is now glitched and I can't figure out why.

I'm using Duckstation. I tried re-patching and loading my saves and it's the same.

I don't want to restart the game without understanding what went wrong.
