Game needs a disclaimer then (i know its over 10 yeas old by now but still...):

WARNING... Do not level your characters above level 30 (30 is good?) or else you are going to get your behind handed to you during boss fights...

Welp... looks like im SOL on my current playthru so, im going to start a new game and use some gameshark codes to give me some good gear so i can just breeze the fights without leveling so much, i wanna see the rest of the game but i dont want to go to those tribulations again...

Sorry about the rant :(

Quote from: TheRaGe1969 on August 26, 2024, 01:48:43 amPoison is useless in the current fight i am now (that is if Rad even get the ability, because he gets random abilities every time i redo the fight), the morbols have regenerator, and that offsets the poison, so its not advised to hit them, but they are spamming bad breath giving me 3-5 status ailments, there is also an undead there, immune to poison... the only one that get affected by poison is the werewolf, but it doesn't matter, he still get close enough and kills everyone with just one hit...

And again... im level 80+, with crap equipment that gives me crap bonuses... the monsters at this point have tons of HP, in the fight im now its cool to hit a morbol with a long bow for like 40-60 damage, trying to inflict poison, only for the monster to activate regnerator, remove the poison and every round it heals for nearly 100 HP...

It also affects the random battles, i have to choose my fights, meaning that i have to restart the game if i see certain combination of monsters on the field because they have so much healing power its ridiculous...

Quote from: Nyzer on August 26, 2024, 02:15:13 amYou're not... meant to BE above level 80. Not even close. And since this mod is from 2013, it predates hacks like level capping per chapter.

This ^

You are literally in Chapter 1... I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I mean, what the hell man? lol

That's how i play... i still have my PSOne and PSP original game disks, and is those versions i spent hundreds of hours getting everyone to max level and getting master in all jobs, including summoner, and farming the deep dungeon for cool stuff, poaching monsters too... i love the game, a lot... i just messed up my play in this hack because, well, again, that's how i play ._.

Happy to see this thread is still alive! recently the omniscient youtube algorithm suggested me the playthrough of one of those gaming youtubers. Loved to see how much he struggled with it. he was so bad he had to cheese all the second half of the mod with a weirdly bugged link arrow. I think i even saw a couple members of the original dev team comment. regardless of his terrible playthrough i was really happy to see JOT5 being played in 2024.

thanks again for this masterpiece, guys. idk what happened in the last decade but i will always love all of you for delivering this beauty. easily one of my favorite games.

If you don't want monsters to overlelvel much, there is a hack included in FFTOrgASM that allows you to set a level cap to all units. I used it to set mine to level 20 during my 647th playthrough and even at level 20 some monsters reach insane stats. i think level 15 is the "balance" cap of the mod.
OR if you want to be cheap and get your revenge there is also a hack that sets a level cap to randomly generated units only, so every monster you run into will be that level while the 5 continue to level up all the way to 99.

i don't think using a gameshark for gear will help you with JOT5. if i recall correctly other than the stuff you see in game there are no other options programmed in the hack. all the other items that originally existed in the base game were wiped and used as placeholders without text description or proper graphics. maybe you could get the boss only weapons but gameshark would probably end up breaking the mod somehow. Heck, if i recall correctly you can't even edit the game's text using TacText because doing so breaks it. Then again, it was never meant to be open source.
you can still use some great quality of life hacks here and there such as smart encounters. God, we love that hack.
but... is it ethical to mod this mod?

Wizzard: I have returned once again.
Chocobo: Wark?
Wizzard: yes.

Nyzer

Adding other hacks onto the mod would come with some risk. It would really depend on what could be added without conflicting with the existing hacks used by it.

Smart Encounters would probably be fine. It removes more lines of code than it uses, and I doubt anything else was put over its code location. I think all the rest of the QoL stuff uses kanji space, though. Which is a common dumping ground for code that got too big to fit in the routine it belongs in. All it takes is for something else vital to be using the same kanji space, and crashes start happening.

The amount of rearranging ASMs we had to do to get most working in Jot5 to begin with and knowing the huge amount of kanji space we use in the OG release, I doubt youll have much success, but smart encounters will indeed work fine.

Well, i used CodeBreaker codes and they work fine, i added all weapons/items and although they are not part of this hack, i have weapons such as Excalibur and Masamune, they don't give the abilities they have in the OG game like Excalibur`s haste, but they are really strong, all my chars are using Earth Clothes so if i run it to those pesky turtles i just laugh at their earth attack (i didn't want to cheat but like i said, im not going to go fight all that stuff the "legit" way again, i spent 40 hours leveling everyone to 80+... so you see im kinda upset i wasted all that time for nothing.)

If you wasted time getting to level 80 in chapter 1, again thats on you, you can only be upset with yourself my friend.

Using items literally not available in chapter 1, means they are either vanilla in everything but name, or are simply not coded at all, so yeah, thats not gonna work quite as youd expect.
