Perhaps Smash's Sain from the downloads section has a good face to start off with.

Oh btw,

-I based the hair from KH's Tidus portrait. :)
-Malak's eyes?
-Ramza's face
-Izlude's neck and clothes

Hope you like it.
Any suggestions?

That is pretty damn good Mike. My only problem with is that his hair and skin tone look almost identical, making him look a bit blobby. I would recommend darking up his skin a bit because his hair looks good. Maybe loose the angry eyebrows?

When I converted the portrait into 16 colors, the skin tone almost matched the hair colors. Hmm.. okay, I'll try darkening the skin tone.
As for the eyebrows, hmm.. we'll see..

Thanks, btw!

looks really good the only thing i'd say about it is the chin, it looks funny.

Wow, nice.  Except in FFX, Tidus seemed always so dang happy, except when Seymour or Yunalesca was pissing him off, or when he was having pesky daddy memories.  This is one sprite that I think should smile.  I'm sure quite a bit of them were false smiles, but they were still smiles.

(Off-topic, does anyone else think the character Rush Sykes was based off Tidus, only with all his personality traits amplified to new, annoying heights?)

It looks really great MiKe. One thing I noticed is that the hood is open a little too much on his right shoulder I think.

Fix the chin's shading, either lighten the skin or darken the hair (just make 'em look different from each other), and put the smile at an angle. It's kinda strange to have a straight smile on a semi-diagonal face. Great work MiKe.

Yes, haven't fixed the chin's shadings. Good job on noticing that guys.

All the more reason to make Tidus smile.  He often faked cheerfulness when he was troubled, so it isn't unrealistic to expect him to fake it in FFT's setting as well.

Awesome portrait Mike. . . makes me wanna rip a Tidus from JapTact. . . and build it with that...

twinees' sprite looks good, so you might want to base with that, since not all of jap_tac's
sprites can be easily converted to FFT style. :)

Thanks for the criticisms guys.
I'll post an update for the portrait later,
and maybe also try fixing the sprite?

Great sprite twinees!! :) Just finished X for the fourth time in my life yesterday, and I have to say it's very well done. I can totally see his portrait smiling, at least a little though...

Hey Mike, good job on that portrait! I like it a lot ^^
The only things I'd say is, add a semi-smile mouth, like your's or Roly's.
And also the hair shading looks a little blurry to me... maybe a little too much light (or little detail?) in the front part of the head. Anyways, just my 2cents. It's hard to critique when you know nothing about spriting though.. I wish I could point it out specifically like Asmo does.

i also noticed that his hood, around the back of the neck, looks a little awkward.
