Hello All

Yes thats right, ive done SO many things ive started making ALOT of tutorials and how-tos. Most recently i discovered how to add more Lucavi to the game over existing sprites.

To Do(and ive already done them, just need to make tutorials)

Increase Unit.BIN size by changing its structure.

This does not allow for NEW jobs entirely, as of yet anyways, until we find what links sprites to that job at least. What you can do is add lucavi to the formation screen, or alot more unique units using the sprites that would never appear in the formation screen no matter what you did without replacing something. This makes it bigger with free spaces so you dont have to overwrite anything

cool, its good to see this kind of tutorial available,

do you think you might be able to find how to change what music certain event fights have? and what file its in. id love to assign some of the unused music into a battle.

That is readily doable, and LD and I have done it multiple times.

I would be more than happy to write a series of event-editing tutorials. this would entail everything from the text that appears straight down to the unit placement screen. music is very simple to change =)

i see your list of sprite types, so all you have to do is change the sprite you replaced for "light caster" from 1 1 0 24 to 0 0 0 24 or something? eh?

is this out of battle.bin?

also thank you VERY much for the video tutorial of event editing.
at first i never even tried to touch it cause thats not my department but now i think i have a chance.

I can definatly do that, kenshin. appearntly the psf archive zodiac has isnt labeled in order or anything, so mostly, we are stuck guessing which song is actually named what he has. LD made up a list of most of them, but with generic names (i.e. battle music 1, unused battle music 2) i will find a more..comprehensive list shortly.

she sure is party to the plot, as i said...

after algus realizes that teta is plotting a dycedarg assassination, she sets him up to be abducted, being mistaken for a beoulve knowing fully well that he would most likely be used as a decoy even at the cost of his life.

to ensure that he is silenced she accepts the mission to ft zeakden where she orders a common squire to kill algus and then golgaros... crushing the death corps.

thats a good question, i don't want to leave plotholes lol... but i think i want her to have aquarius.

i think im going to hold back on spriting for a while (ill try to do blansch before i stop) but i haven't even played the game in so long it feels weird to do all this and not start working on my own story.

ugh.. and then i haven't made a sprite for my avatar :P

you know there isn't a female zodiac monster...

also some of the braves dont thransform at all, guess they didn't have time for it? also you can add meliadoul to the "poor so and so" list and take izlude off of it hehe.

anyway im getting rid of balk, and the character who replaces him will have a gun called "sister ray" (off of ff7) and if the effect looks right, ill make it shoot  that purple lazer that is the skill dispose, for worker 8, at 25% chance but with no damage to caster

Oh, in FF lore there are quite a few. There is Madeen the evil god taking the body of an Ice Goddess, Schehrazai, who is half horse, half woman, this is the Sagittarius Stone's one. Zalera in later games has a female Shaman with him. Ultima, is of course female. Though I think those 3 are it.

I believe that Shemhazai is female. The only one besides Ultima. Mateus is sexless; it's the armor, not the girl. Famfrit is only female if the "darkening cloud" held within is really the boss of FFIII.

Read Mateus's description from FF12. The esper is the armor on the girl, the girl is just the host. She might even be related to Shiva some how. However, Mateus itself is not female.

I see.? So he is the armor which is the one who holds the staff. The woman was just attached to him.
about Famfrit I still doubt it being a female :lol:

Mateus = Emperor Mateus Palamecia, FF2 boss
Famfrit =? The Dark Cloud, FF3 boss? The description says 'he', but his real name in Japanese is Famfrit the Dark Cloud. At the very least he is a referance to her.
Zeromus = FF4 boss
Exodus = Ex-death (very bad translation), FF5 boss

Cuchulainn, Hashmal, Zalera, Ultima, Belias, Adrammelech, Ultima = FFT bosses

Shemhazai = New

she isn't taking all of algus's  role. not at ft zeakdon, she'll be in zalbag's role(or i wont put her there at all since she probably isn't in position enough to be giving orders) i'm hoping i can give her a lucavi without erasing any of the pre existing ones.

is that already possible with event editing? she can use the same stone glow as elmdor's.

I don't know what it is, but she seems so much more evil in this role than algus did. i had thought about still having algus follow you till you return from rat cellar but i wanted to edit the scene.. (you know, she isn't in long enough normally for you to even know if shes a kind person or not.)

but i have to tone her down having alma's final stat gain + more mp gain is too much, she mopped the floor with everyone in dorter just with bio. and practically ignores all of the custom secondary white magic skills i gave her. and there all set to be 2 levels higher... i think i need to make them have more levels higher.. im not going to make this patch easy to beat.

sorry sentinal i didn't mean to derail the point of your topic. i guess i dont really know where to post this since i learned how to do this stuff off your tutorial.

It is fine by me, your more than welcome to post your ideas here. it is good publicity.people seeing what you can do with my tutorials. im just glad i could help you out, zozma. you have definatly helped me alot with teh use of your sprites, and hopefully the true necromancer when you have the time

Unfortunatly, the power cannot stay on long enough for me to upload the next video. it is done, however. and i can upload the minute the storming stops... ive always hated this part of florida.

i wasnt sure of one thing, you show a txt file that has the sprite types, where are these sectors located? in battle.bin? i dont want to open the entire game with the hex editor its too slow

Lol, when i saw music list...well here is what i mean

The music is named... music54.spf or wahtever the extension is
in the psf archive that zodiac has, it holds the actuall names, but not the music numbers... so if i want to play "ramza's theme" how on earth do i know what music file that is the iso file... hope i explained it well enough there..

there is a tropical storm coming tommorow morning. it may knock power out for the next few days, lets pray it doesnt.

theres another music file that isnt used that sounds like it would work as overworld map music, id love to change that

(sorry to keep adding more stuff but you seem to know quite a bit about changing hex values)

what about event triggers off of the overworld map? theres a town map thats never used, id like to create an event battle on it as well as add just a few more story battles without destroying the ones that already exist... possible?

actually its the 'main street of lesalia" and also the front gate, inside and out

So I was following your Change Unit.BIN the Right Way video, and when it comes time to save the formation image, photoshop gets an error and shutdowns. I've done it a couple of times and it always shuts down there. I have the trial version of Photoshop, soon to get the full *cough*pirated*cough* version of it. Whats wrong if you know?

Zozma; Totally possible....in a way

You can replace one of the sidequests, that is simple. you can change the map...nelveska temple is on...to your lesalia street*which i saw btw...its rather glitchy, the rooftops i mean, and if you move to a tiel adjeacent to a house, you can walk through the house* simply "adding" events is not possible right now. Changing the world map, is frustrating nad im learning my best as we speak. LD needs to cahnge the order of which maps are unlocked, i think i know something of that, but have no hard evidence. adding new things to the map seems trivial at  best once i hack through the number forest that is hex

Kenshin: ill definatly look at it tommorow during the eye of the storm, ill post you the solution then. just make sure your opening the right extension, your colors do not contain 3208 different ones(had that happen to me once) and once you upgrade, try it again, sometimes trial versions of photoshop crash on "purchaser" only features

EDIT: Also make sure your resolution, number of colors, width and hieght are correct, and you save it as a 4bit in os/2(works with less graphical glitches in my experience)

okay, so the eventchr inserting

in the scene where algus interrogates a knight at dorter i realized
that everything i have inserted leaves about two lines of pixels above it.
so im pretty sure im inserting too low. if i start at adress 53200 which is the beginning of the scene and end at 59600 thats the end from the highest pixels to the lowest ones in the picture. its 5 rows of 8. but i noticed that i have to move most of the frames up 2 pixels to make it look right (but can't move the top row up 2 because theres no more space above.. so my question is should i really be starting at 53200? i noticed that if i do i have to erase a few rows of Fs within the range of 53200 to 59600 (confused?)

If you want to move it up by 2 pixels, remove 0x0100:

0x53200 - 0x100 = 0x53100

excellent kenshin. ive recently been akin to graphics gale for palletes and touchups, even full on edits. but resizing, resolutioning and saving it as 4 bit, i tend to use photoshop..unfortunatly thats all the use i get out of photoshop

So I edit some test, test it in game, works good, so I go to change so more but cdprog doesn't open up the iso. So do you have to a fresh iso everytime you insert TEST.EVT?

no, i use cdmage though, i have never used cdprog for anything other than autopatching...i cant help you there =( maybe its trying to check for differences since some of the headers and origonal text is the same?

he can potentially be a death knight, but remember that his new role here has changed him from being a cruel noble, to an innocent bystander.. plus its psx version that death knight thing doesn't exist. Id rather miluda come back as the Death Knight anyway (but i probably wont kill her off at all)

anyways, i wont have access to my compy with the tutorials on it until friday afternoon. the storm knocked out my digital adapter so i ahve no monitor on my pc right now. im using my sis's laptop >.<

man this scene took like 5 hours and its still not exactly how i want it...

but i only have one more scene to complete in chapter 1 for my patch and its an easy one (delita, ramza, teta (instead of algus) get scolded by dycedarg for going to rat cellar.

also the custom miluda is in the scene after theives fort instead of the generic knight female.

(Btw, i want miluda to teleport away the instant she falls and says "brother im sorry..." at blablabla plateau.... where do i change that?)

I've been changing what seems like the same piece of text for like 10 minutes. I checked the event.txt that appears after you decompile it and the same text is in there likg 20 times. Do you really have to change all instances of the text?

hmm weird, but if you want to test it super fast, give ramza a galaxy death skill so you can end that battle asap

then just test it without fps limit untill you see which one changes it...
and i havent seen any AI side effects like when you give the monster the normal "Attack"

I'm changing some jobs names right now, We don't really need 4 Arc Knights and a billion Divine Knights. I'm trying to spice some stuff up.

I'll try changing some things to that Attack command you mentioned alittle later.

howd they get generic dancer/calc/mime jobs to appear with different jobs like Assassin... the sprite links say they are sprites 80/81/82/83 ish?  meaning it overlaps where monsters start....

im talking about with ENTD editor here...

From what I recall reading through the GameShark hacking guide at GameFAQs, it's not possible at all. The indexes conflict because Square never intended to do it.

Hey, I just wanted to comment that these videos have been really helpful for me SentinalBlade and I appreciate the time you took to show how to do things.  I can't wait to hear how to add to the unit.bin.  I'm really hoping that there's a way to create spots that can have correct formation sprites as well.  8)

Thanks grey, im really happy to hear feedback on this type of thing, im always happy to help, and the praise is reward enough for me.

It is fairly hard...i need to contact methanol later tonight, he can help me finish up the work on actually adding ot the jobwheel, the unique sprites, like agrias at the least... generic jobs are beyond me currently.

Cool, let us know when you have it going.  I'd like to know how to link a new sprite to a record in UNIT.BIN so that they show up in the formation screen.  Currently I am overwriting someone else who is in UNIT.BIN for them to show up.  It would be cool if somehow you could link a sprite to a new UNIT.BIN entry.

Alright guys

Gonna start picking up on my tutorials...

Anything you guys like to see?

So far all i have to do now is:

Editing formation panels
Attack.OUT

Also, adding ot unit.bin is WAY to painful for me, and with all my other projects, it will be the last thing i do as its giving me a headache.

How about a tutorial on hacking formulas? It would definitely be an advanced level tutorial.^_^

Hi there, i need some help. is your UNIT.BIN editting based on the psx version? because i play the psp version, and there isn't a .bin file.
what am i supposed to do to change the sprites for the formation screen?

EDIT* sorry, but i think i posted this at the wrong section. this is for the psx right?
