Mod Reviews / Re: [PSX] FFT - The Lion War 2.0
October 11, 2021, 12:17:21 pm
The Lion War stands unparalleled among remakes. This is the FFT fans deserved.

This Game is Complete!
Not Completed

Version: 2.021

Overall
Difficulty
Fun
Quality
Replayability
I don't even know where to start on this. I love just about everything there is in this patch. I hadn't played the PSP version of War of the Lions before this and was unfamiliar with the new content so each event that popped up as a I played was just a joy to behold, all restyled to fit the original PSX flavor of writing and nothing felt out of place.

The difficulty really hit that sweet spot of challenging and fun and the new content can absolutely offer a serious challenge. Don't take that 3 up there to mean it's not well-balanced, more that it's an average difficulty overall without being too-easy or too-hard.

I can't state enough just how much fun I had playing through this. It was like reliving all the magic of my first couple times through FFT but finding new stuff to discover the whole way and with none of the funky re-writing done for the PSP remake, no annoying slowdowns, no badly scaled or stretched graphics, and adding in the Quality of Life improvements only make it that much more fun to play again.

I'm looking forward to what the new content offers for replay because that seems like a really deep rabbit hole to finish chasing this down and I know I've barely scratched the surface of that. NewGame+ mode just offers something I think most every FFT fan has wanted since the first time they saw "This Game Is Complete!" which is the chance to go at it again with your carefully-crafted killing machines among so many other features that you simply have to give it a run or three yourself to see what's in store.

If you've ever hesitated to play War of the Lions on PSP or just haven't returned to Ivalice in a good long while, then you need to play The Lion War 2.0; I promise you won't be disappointed.

I've taken down the older version since there haven't been any noticeable issues with this latest upload. Enjoy the new, properly-functioning Magic Blade and Swordskills.

This took me way too long to get back to, but I've uploaded another new fix patch on the original post. This one should  do the following:
 - Fix Swordskills and Mageknight skills (excepting Night Sword and Dark Sword) to function off of MA instead of PA.
 - New Sprites actually show up as they should in battle, not just on Formation screen/etc.
 - Meliadoul unhooded sprite replacing original Meliadoul sprite.
 - Infinite loading bugs at Orbonne, Goug, and Goland that had been reported before are hopefully ironed out now.

If anything else stands out as horribly-wrong/game-crashing that isn't listed in the Known Bugs section of the opening post of this thread I would like to know about if you run into it.

If you're interested in keeping the pre-swordskill-fix version of the patch I'll leave it up for a little bit but I plan to take it down when I'm satisfied with testing on the new fix, so grab it while it's there.

Quote from: mayfu on August 02, 2021, 05:08:20 pmSorry, I'm not 100% sure, but the new update may have broken the in game sprites.

I tried this mod for the first time today and only the Formation screen sprites were changed, and in battle sprites were base sprites.  I thought this was due to complications with animations, but after looking at some videos, I realized the in battle sprites should be changed as well.  I patched using the older build (CCP2ndBeta-2021.rar) and after opening my old save file, so far it seems like all the sprites are correctly changed.

Yeah, before I uploaded it I noticed the filesize was all wrong but I couldn't remember what it was when that happened last time. For whatever reason it manages to produce a PPF that doesn't have the new sprites. I'll try to work on it sometime this week and figure out how I'm managing that and fix it.

So I put a new version of CCP2 up on the OP, but I left the last-working one up there as well. The 8-1-21 PPF should have the following modifications.

  • Increased power on Brawler skills: Aurabolt, Fire Dance, Bum Rush. Bum Rush was especially weak and hopefully this makes up for it. Maybe watch out for Brawlers.
  • Fixed Swordskills to rely on MA instead of PA as originally intended. This might just completely fuck the balance of the entire patch. Either way, Agrias gonna be Agrias Motherfucking Oaks now. (Thanks, Glain!) Maybe watch out for Mageknights now, too.
  • Updated Agrias and Mustadio Join events to add units at Party Level instead of preset Level 12.
  • Changed Olan's loadout to make him more survivable.
  • Made the first Robe available before Sweegy instead of after Sand Rat Cellar.
  • Finished Worker 8's skills - these are completely untested. I promise nothing.
  • Fixed some War Trophies. Balk 1 now properly drops a Robot Glove (which should have been previously dummied out). No idea if it Works-As-Intended. Feel free to let me know how that goes.

Dunno if I'm reviving this mess or what yet. We'll see.

Quote from: jarik on April 15, 2021, 07:16:24 pmHi Celdia, Thanks for the patch and love your work! Any chance you're planning to patch CCP2 with something like "FFT: Complete"?

Primarily for the improved translations?

Highly unlikely for a variety of reasons. Most of those reasons being "I'm kinda done with CCP2 because it's just too-broke to fix".

Examples of How Broken CCP 2nd's Sidequests Get

- Start of video (about a minute long)
- Timestamp around 13:55 (also about a minute long)
- And then pretty much everything past 16 minutes in.

Okay, if you haven't been checking out the NEW MAPS over here https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=12678.0 then what are you even doing with your life?

Had a look?

Good. Want to try some CCP2 on those new maps? It's attached to this post. Have fun. Hopefully it doesn't explode on use (seems to load fine in pSXfin and ePSXe 1.7 still.) Tested them on stream up through Sand Rat with no issues. Tons of fun!

I didn't even realize the fix patch I put up didn't have all the patch data applied properly. I've removed the two files and just made a single updated one to download on the first post in this thread. It should have both the fix for Goug functional and actually have the new unit sprites load in battle.
77
Had an absolute blast puttering around in Vanilla with these. :D

Also, I was thinking about it and I feel like I judged Mandalia too harshly at first. Not-Saving Algus battle didn't feel really any different but when I came back for a random from the Thieves' Fort side, that felt a lot more interesting to play on.

New Project Ideas / Celdia's Reflect-O-Rama
March 19, 2021, 01:13:13 am

I spent more time on that banner image than I did making this patch.

So I had the dumb idea of giving everything Reflect in vanilla and seeing what would happen. So now the patch that no one asked for: TwoClick. Because I made it by clicking the mouse twice (click Job, click Innate Status: Reflect on) on every job in the patcher (except 00, though something tells me maybe I only needed to do it to 00). Included in the attached archive are six seven* different .FFTP files and you will need the 493 Beta version of patcher (https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=7163.0) to apply them to a clean ISO. The files are labeled as such:

Reflect Only: What it says on the tin. Every job has Always: Reflect going and there are no other changes. Do not expect any game text to reflect (ha, oh god why, I promise that was unintentional) these changes.
The rest of them took Three (or more?) clicks to do but they all have the above Reflect All changes. Since it took three clicks to do that part, I named them ThreeClick.

Summons Only: As above, but also all Summon spells have been flagged as Reflectable.
Samurais Only: As Reflect Only but all Draw Out skills are flagged as Reflectable. This one does not change summons.
Summons and Samurais: Hopefully self-explanatory. Summon and Draw Out skills are all flagged Reflectable.
S+S+SS (Summons, Samurais, and Swordskills): As Summons and Samurais, but with the fun addition of Agrias' five swordskills being flagged as Reflectable.
Sorry Gaffy: As S+S+SS but includes Dark Sword and Night Sword in the list of Reflectable swordskills.

This is completely untested and presented as-is and I consider it complete. There will be no future support of this patch. Keep in mind this patch is more about how the AI's decisions will change due to the modifications than it is about the player just making everyone a Monk and playing mostly like normal. Try to do something fun with it. :D

* Fake Edit because I thought of one more before I finished typing this up:

* S+S+Mime: As Summons and Samurais above but Mime Job unlock is all 0's so everyone has it from the start. Enjoy!

I highly encourage anyone amused by the idea to share their experiences here with it. Also if anyone else does have ideas for this and are willing, just post your own modified .fftp patchfiles up in this thread. Very curious to see what comes of this, if anything.

Celdia's Complete Patch 2nd
  • Beta Release
  • Quality of Life Tweaks
  • Rebalance/Overhaul
  • Fun-Oriented
  • New Mechanics
  • Moderate Difficulty

A re-work of the original Celdia's Complete Patch with a greater focus on balancing the new content. It's not exactly the same patch and it's not exactly as sequel, but there are a pile of familiar changes from CCP1 among a lot of other new things.

As a beta release, this is entirely unpolished. Chapter 4 sidequests are incomplete but the main story battles are playable through to the end of the game.

Mod Reviews / [PSX] FFT - Celdia's Complete Patch
March 06, 2021, 01:19:00 am
   Celdia's Complete Patch

  • Fun-Oriented
  • Un-Balanced/Overhaul
  • New Mechanics
  • Moderate Difficulty
  • Easter Eggs

An un-balanced mod with heavy focus on just trying out new mechanics through new jobs, skills, equipment, and even some monsters. Doesn't touch the main story, so you can just focus on the changes as you play. It's a little old so it lacks any real QoL updates.
