Title: Patch submission
Post by: philsov on November 09, 2009, 10:45:19 am
Very similar to how sprites, utilities, and such are submitted and then added to the front page, why not do something similar to the patches we've made thus far?

Broken down into major hacks (large, intense projects) and minor hacks (lolswordskill patch, minor class change patches like Calc -> Red Mage, Chemist -> Alchemist, Mediator -> Enchanter, etcetcetc.)

If they are fully tested, and they work...why not?
Maybe a little description of the patch is needed...

well, yeah.  there's still the issue of guildlines and format and stuff.

I agree fully. There are some minor patches scattered around the 'new projects' section which may get overlooked and there's no 'completed' section, unless you count the Archives.

I'm concerned about the amount of lolpatches being submitted.

If it's a lolpatch, remove it. If you ask for an exact description, it'll make sorting the chaff much easier.

Then again, a swordskilllolpatch could be described as a 'job overhaul', so...

Passing grade :

Changes : Did you make any changes to the game, not just skillsets ?
Does your ability provide any fun to play with AND are not only swordskills with 999 damage ?
Did any effort got In this pacth...

More seriously, a personal pacth like ''Biskmatar pacth'' would be okay, but barely. Otherwise, how will ''smaller'' project get any recognision ?

We will just delte those fucking lolpacthes 999 ls

Fully agree with Koko, but not for 1 thing...Biskmatar patch should not be submitted...Not because it's bad, but because only 1 small thing is changed

and rightfully so.  But I'd rather have 5 lolpatches and 3 minor patches available for download -- either via the front page, a "completed patches" topic/forum, or something else -- than none of these being easily available.  Perhaps we can give it a sort of trial run?  If the lolpatches are overwhelming, we can pursue other methods.

Using 1.3 as an example, if someone went to the site and looked for the patch, would you expect them to go to the download page or the forums?  The download section, obviously.  They'd only peek into the forums to ask where the download was.

edit:  quite frankly asking the patches to be in ppf format and with a description will discourage most lolpatchers, but maybe I underestimate them.

An excellent point Philsov, though as pointed out, it's best to be wary of the LoLPatchers in this ordeal. Perhaps a team of people that test play the patches to assure they're up to quality?

I like the new patch section but some of the patches need a tutorial to get them working the way they should as there not as easy as ppf-o-matic

Could have some human filters that upload the patches? Anyone who wants a patch uploaded has to go through a person?

I was about to suggest the same thing. This way no one person will have the say on what's considered "good" or "bad". Though decisiveness is key: if there's a committee deciding whether a patch passes or fails, there should be no gray area in their decisions.

Hell, I don't think most lolpatchers even notice the submission forum...
