Title: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: 3lric on July 03, 2015, 08:16:32 pm
I'm doing lots and lots of little changes and fixes to Ch1 to make the re-release even better when it does come out.

Even Duke Seymour is working hard on the re-release!

I didn't know we had Hammers now as weapons for the game.

Meanwhile, my mind still itches for Chapter 2...

Thanks guys, I'll have another update here either tonight or tomorrow. Xifanie did some fixes to the proposition hack, so you actually CAN cancel marks now (but youll have to pay to start it again)  So obviously some of those pictures will change.

We are also going to be including the Soldier Office hack, so you guys can look forward to that as well

Nice! That might let us skip a few of the less fun classes. (Squire, Chemist.)

I just looked at the soldier office hack and I don't understand anything about how it works, can anyone tell me where to look for a way to understand how this hack works, cause if I don't know how it works i'm probably just going to ignore it.

This isn't the right place to ask that. Ask either in the help section or the Soldier office upgrade thread. All the info on how to use it is in that thread btw

Random thought about equipment synthesis. Maybe it can be applied later on for rare equipment.

The idea's heavily inspired by monster hunter so before I go into how it could work I'll explain how monster hunter equipment making works.

When you kill any monster in Monster Hunter you have to harvest the corpse for items used to make equipment. Small sized, or minion monsters can only be "carved" once when killed, while fully grown monsters have 3  carves. The adult sized monsters can also have parts broken for bonus loot or tails severed for another carve.

Now what if in Jot5 monsters had equipment that fell under a "loot" category like tails, tusks, bone, or teeth that could only be "stolen" by the thief. Poaching the monsters could also drop the same loot with rare and common loot. You could have items not found in shops you could only get by killing monsters.

It's been a while since I beat Jot5 so I'll just use vanilla panthers as an example.

Panther - Large Fangs Equipped. Poach = Large Fang(common), Cat's Eye(rare)

Coeurl - Cat's Eye Equipped Poach = Cat's Eye, Sharp Claws

Vampire - Sharp Claws Equipped. Poach = Sharp Claws, Strong Femur

The items don't have to have stats. The equipment doesn't have to be visible to players either. Monster equipment could be superior to mass produced items in some ways like having an chain vest looking item made from goblin garbs and large fangs. It could have a low HP/MP boost, but have something like PA +1. Maybe all or most monster equipment could give +1 in an attribute or two, but have lower HP/MP than shop equipment without being OP.

Maybe all cats could drop the same item and instead of making equipment from just monster items you could combine with already existing items? Don't want to make it too complicated. I'd love it if rare, one time only monsters from marks could have an Elmdor level of difficulty when it comes to harvesting their item.

Maybe this is just me needing to play monster hunter again some time soon.

I've played every monster hunter game ever made since 2004 (USA and Japanese, even bought a N3DS specifically for MH4U) So I know exactly what you are talking about. However, we are very much limited on item space and there isn't a way to increase it.

I would love to be able to do something like this, but unfortunately there is no current way for this to be done.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: Xifanie on July 07, 2015, 10:34:40 am
....we are very much limited on item space, BUT you aren't using any of the poached items inventory space o.o
This is giving me ideas Elric.

Sadly, it would have to be limited to poaching items or something else, because those items could only have item names, and no graphic or anything.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: gatebuster202 on July 07, 2015, 09:17:08 pm
Xifanie are you (either implying or saying?) that poached items have a seperate, name only, set of locations? Where, one could, theoretically, set up some "name-only) items, like, Red Dragon Wings... And, possibly, require them, for Synthesis. (So, a Wizard Rod, two "Red Dragon Wings", 5 X-Potions and 5000 gil could become a theoretical recipe for a Dragon Rod)

My personal project sees the implications, and would love to ask more about this in it's forum.

(Making this post relevant to Jot5) So Elric, a request. Please don't apply this, if it does work, til you re-release CH. 1, I'm dying to play your new marks, and use the synth shop.  :D (Or you know, ignore me.)

Anyway... We NEED  :more:
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: 3lric on July 07, 2015, 10:53:17 pm
All of these things will be in the re-release lol. Very possibly what Xif was talking about as well. I only say 'possibly' incase she has any issues that make it to much a pain to continue, as she is already working on it  ;)

There was only 2 marks in the original version of Ch1. In the re-release there will be 7 for chapter 1

I'm confused by your statement because the next release IS the re-release, which won't be until this stuff is finished :P shouldn't be to long at all though. Xifanie is a wizard
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: gatebuster202 on July 08, 2015, 12:35:14 am
I just want the new marks! I know Xifanie is fast. (I compare post times when reading old stuff, I'm thinking that she's fluent in hex and several other coding formats.)

The comment was, dumb, as it is your patch. I'm just excited. (You added five marks, that's the awesome.) Anyway, I don't want to go and re set up my five until the re-release. Which will hopefully be a bit lower in level, and higher in JP. (Innate JP-Up? Or something, was promised... The specific comment was something like more overall JP gains.)
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: 3lric on July 08, 2015, 12:49:21 am
Correct the JP formula changed to:
(Caster Level / 3) + 10

The new XP formula is:
Math.max( 1 , Math.min{ 99 , (10 + (TarLVL - CasLVL)) } )

And I understand you statement now, I misread before. However if Xif finishes this anytime soon then yes it'll be in the re-release by the time it's released, as this will be setup as part of the Synth Shop, which has already been setup barring these changes.

Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: gatebuster202 on July 08, 2015, 12:06:11 pm
I barely passed Pre-Cal Elric. So that Exp formula looks like hieroglyphs. (Minus the variable for Caster vs Target.) The JP formula I got. (I forget if Jot5 used JP up?) But yes that's faster.

Good to know the synth shop is already set. (It did seem rather straight forward when I glanced at it. It's my next project but I'm delaying to touch it depending on Xifanie's research.)

Heh.

As funny as it was, it was definitely broken that way - once you took out the Malboro and the Wide Slasher the fight was over, and it made it just absurdly easy compared to the rest of the battles. Especially if the person blocking the werewolves' jump over was a cloaked Snake so they couldn't even try to attack him... the wolves would all dance around in the corner (or beat up Agrias if she decided to be stupid) while you 4v1'd the Malboro.

Changelog updated in OP.

-Currently working on renaming items and setting up materials for Synth shop (Well, Xif is mostly, I'm just watching in amazement)
-Still working on getting all the generic quotes put in.

My list of fixes is done now, just need to go through the last couple events again to make sure i didn't miss anything. However, even with the fixes done, that doesn't mean the additions are (synth shop and soldier upgrade hack still not fully setup). I'll update again soon.

there are 3 things getting me really exited

- The new marks
- The new events
- The Cactuar sprite (please tell me i will finally have the chance to see a cactuar in fft)

the hype its returning!

so you could say the patch is 90% complete? probably less?

Cactuar is in the insanely derpy hack as an enemy class and had some interesting moves but proved not to be a threat as you got further into the game. I don't suggest you play the insanely derpy hack unless you want to throw your computer out a second story window, really it is broken as hell and requires very specific setups to get through it.

All Generic Units (and Unique Units and Monsters) quotes are done and back in the game as they were originally intended to be had Square not been too lazy to do it.

Many of these were madeup on the spot since not everything was properly translated or useable. However they all fit the pattern vanilla was using and added a bit of Jot5 to a lot of them.

The worldmap/attack.out reorganization is also done as well.

I'll be doing more event stuff tonight regarding marks and what not, then it'll probably be back to working on choosing the rest of the icons/palettes for the shields/armor etc (weapons are done)

Probably super late to reply but. i did play that patch and finished it and as a person that loves games with HARDCORE difficulty i had a lot of fun but once you finish it really doesnt make you feel like playing it again and as for the cactuar i was talking about
im a bastard that stole 1 sprite from jot5 and "accidentaly" found the cactuar sprite in shishi

and Elric by generic quotes you mean the things they say when you click/push/press their names? like the "..." heck if thats it then i can imaginate how time consuming it was considering the amount of generic and monster names in game.

Greetings! Not too familar with these forums. Please inform me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. Thanks

I downloaded this game out of boredom, thinking it would just be another crossover, and I couldn't have been more wrong. I won't repeat what everyone else has already posted, but I certainly second all of them. I do have a few suggestions though...

*Why Segata Sanshiro didn't make the five, I'll never know. But maybe as an optional superboss....

*I think Ramza would fair better without the chin-strap gotee. Maybe a handlebar mustache would work better, but if it's a shaggy, civil war style one, people will start posting that he's too OP.

*On that note, please make Motörhead (or even just Lemmy) one of the marks (eventually). I will quit my job and come work for you guys if you do. Honest In-jin.

*It may have already been said, but please KEEP the items expensive. Some will disagree, but I thought it was an interesting challenge trying to conserve them by using abilities and spells. Like Survival Horror/conserving-your-ammo type of interesting.

*Everyone's got their requests for other cross-over characters. I heard Crono (Cosmic Samurai class?), which was my first choice, but would you consider any of the characters from the Onimusha series?, (which is criminally underrated, in my opinion). Even just as marks, it would be cool to see them make an appearance.

Looking forward to the re-release of Ch.1. Thanks again for all your hard work! Yasumi Matsuno could learn a lot about what the fans really want in their FFT games from this. Cheers!

While I know Xifanie and I would love to include Segata Sanshiro, we're probably the only ones on the team who are aware he ever existed, so it's sadly not likely. :( (Seriously, our other team members really need some culture :v)

Ramza's beard is actually a party member, complete with a backstory. Please look forward to it!

The idea is to keep cameos in the world of video games, though if it's a licensed property that appears in a game, it's at least up for consideration. Sorry Lemmy!

In order to address the difficulty, a separate Easy Mode patch is planned, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about losing the challenge. A lot of adjustments are being made in the meantime, but Elric has always been pretty comfortable with the original challenge level, and he's the boss, so...

Plenty of culture, just don't see how he would even come close to fitting into anything we are doing, even in the slightest bit XD

In order to address the difficulty, a separate Easy Mode patch is planned, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about losing the challenge. A lot of adjustments are being made in the meantime, but Elric has always been pretty comfortable with the original challenge level, and he's the boss, so...

This right here is the entire reason for this response. Not sure why she didn't mention this, but everyone knows there are many things in the re-release designed to reduce that original difficulty, since I wasn't quite happy with everything about it O_o

Thank you for your kind words RJ Cid. Keep looking forward

Sorry, I thought the goal was still last release level of difficulty, with balancing to take into account changes via synth shop. Miscommunication.

And hey, Segata Sanshiro had his own game, aside from cameos in other games. :p

50/50

I still have to say the overall game difficulty as a whole isn't bad by itself. I think there was just a few factors that put certain parts over the top.

Which is why I made this thread:
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=10869.msg205555#msg205555

My main received complaints were about JP and Random Battles. The JP formula and EXP has since been rewritten to help out with this a lot, and several of these near impossible random's are being adjusted as well. The actually pricing has changed a bit, not too much though, it only changed because we redid parts of the item list. Ironically enough though, if you were to look at the Jot5 item list, most items are actually much cheaper than in Vanilla :P especially later tier.

Another thing is the Gil formula has also changed, which should be another huge thing consider how much people were hurting for money at some points

Lemmy was technically Kill Master from the game Brütal Legend, but it's ya'lls call.

I only have one other suggestion, but please bare in mind that it may not be necessary until the chapters of the game. Could you add more rare items and skills learned, found, or stolen from really any other aspect of gameplay? What I mean is, I enjoyed that parts of vanilla when where you had to Move-Find rare items at Nelvaska Temple, steal Genji Gear from Elmdor, learn Zodiac from Elidibus, etc. They were like tiny, in-battle sidequests apart from the main goal of winning the battle.

You guys seem incredibly talented and intelligent with your work on this project, so I have no doubt that you have some interesting and amazing plans for this that you won't spoil. I simply wanted to cast my vote for more of this to be present, as it not only increases the challenge, but the reward(s).

Keep up the good work. Thanks

Later and ultimate weapons are acquired only by synthing in jot5 which will be further explained in the rerelease. We can only have as many items as vanilla as equipment and weapons and such. There is no extra item space

I'll say that I never found a random battle to be unbeatable after I finally pushed the 5 out of their initial Job/Chemist skillsets and picked up the generic that I should have at the first opportunity.
There was a battle with a blue Bomb, several chocobos, and a few Lamias at Mandalia recently that I found frustrating (they outnumbered and outleveled the party) but guarding my generic and Cloud as they laid down Faith and Death casts worked fairly well. Frankly, if I hadn't been training Ramza and Agrias in new Jobs it probably would have gone a lot easier - they both only had one skillset to work from.
There've been some fights with the tortoises that utterly destroyed me, but Float makes them an utter joke.

And on the other end of that scale, there's a fight in Araguay(?) Woods with nothing but a single Beastmaster enemy. He comes up to the group to fire a shot or two with his cute little crossbow and then gets curbstomped by the Five.

QuoteRamza's beard is actually a party member, complete with a backstory. Please look forward to it!

And it's so manly it comes with level 5 Monk unlocked by default.

Possibly because Jot5 only lightly touches upon the fact that Ramza has been cooperating with Delita's wishes with little fuss before otherworlders started arriving on his doorstep. Yeah, he's chafing under the lack of freedom, but he knows that his cooperation means a generally comfortable lifestyle for him and his sister, as opposed to needing to flee the country in case someone recognizes him and informs the Church.

Ramza's smart enough to see the sense in the plan and go along with it.

it was fun going through 25 different setups trying to figure out how to trick the skeletons into
night and dark swording ramza
while still surviving the battle

Baiting them into
attacking your party instead of Mustadio helps. If he survives the initial barrage, he'll usually start Paralyzing them with Arm Shot. Agrias' Holy abilities also do major damage with a chance to inflict status, so keeping her alive helps too...

Basically, if Mustadio, Agrias, and someone with Full Life or Revive can all survive the opening of the fight, it's a piece of cake.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes

Truth be told I did not find this mod to be too difficult at all. Besides a few randoms (like the battle with all the lamias and beast master, or the 5-6 turtles come to mind, it's been awhile since I've played though so forgive me) that I found to be just not worth the effort to try and win the fight for the small reward, the story battles were not too hard. A few of them kicked my ass on my first run through but that's to be expected. Assess the battle and adjust your party accordingly. Lowering the difficulty in the story I think is not really necessary.

If you are upping the JP we receive also, that should be more than enough help for the player to get a few more abilities which really was the only reason certain battles gave me trouble anyway was because I didn't branch out of the starting jobs and learn new abilities. If you have a small pool of different jobs and abilities unlocked for everyone, you can come up with many different strategies to beat any fight you are struggling with, none are impossible.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: 3lric on August 20, 2015, 12:28:08 pm
None of the story battles are changing other than maybe a slight adjustment at Bariaus Hill and one at Sweegy. The only battles that will actually change are a few randoms, due to several being way too hard and others being waay too easy, both of which were likely mistakes in either enemy placement, team color or randomly present flags.

The main things that will make a difference in difficulty are the new things you can do. Such as the Synth Shop, Upgraded Soldier Office and the fact that Ch1 originally had only 2 marks, which were unlocked at the end of the Chapter. You will now have access to 7 marks, which will start appearing once reaching Warjilis, and will be spread across the chapter. Also there will be 2 repeatable marks to gather ore or wood materials for use in synthing items/weapons/armor which you will have access to once reaching Dorter.

It's really an addition of an entirely new mechanic that will give most, if any decrease in difficulty. The difficulty itself wasn't ever intended to be lowered (as the game is not that difficult once you branch out of the main classes), just more balanced, which is why a few select battles will receive some revisions.

If you want less difficulty then you still have to work for it by scavenging/buying/mining for materials to make items before they are available in shops (up to 1 or 2 shop progressions ahead, haven't decided yet).

Xifanie will also be working on a Jot5 Easy Type after Chapter 2 is released, which is another reason I don't intend to make many alterations aside from what I mentioned above other than slight nerfing to the second ganon battle since there is now a 3rd Ganon battle against Beast Ganon

They are amazing at noting the release of any update/release of a mod more then a month or four in the making.

@The earlier difficulty comments. The only fight that I struggled with, (more then four resets.) was Barius Hill. And that was only due to very low JP totals. I even have the Five Move JP Up, and ground their second story battle for a hundred or so turns + Snake doing a heal loop. (Now that run, I was using Chemist on two of the Five on the Hill. So that might have impacted their speed enough that I was having the problems I did.)
Anyway, I've been running back through, on a JP grind and the changes promised to the Gained JP formula should correct the need to grind too much. (Which then can lead to overleveling.) I'm excited to see how everything comes together.

Two suggestions for ability animations in Dante and Link:

Could Link's whirlwind strike animation look similar to the Bull Demon's (the actual name escapes me) spin ability? Maybe remove the lightning and have it spin around once with a blue palatte instead of the red? It is his only sword ability, afterall.

Dante's skill sets were very creatively done, but I'm curious if we could maybe spice up some of his animations? Could Stinger utilize the sprite of "sword-extended" instead of "critical"? His character is all about "style" and a piece of the fun of unlocking new abilities in any version of FFT is seeing them in action.

One more thing... could Mustadio's sprite get replaced with something better? Maybe leave it alone for the re-release, but have a cooler one ready to go for Chapter 2? For example, it would be cool to see his sprite & abilities mix with Edgar's from FF6. I never liked his sprite. It seemed like a pratical design, but still dull, even when I started playing vanilla back in middle school.

Hope my suggestions were appropriate and helpful. Thanks

People say that like it's even that easy to edit effects lol. But no, I tried it before and it doesn't look great.

Mustadio sprite will stay the same. He looks just like me. Lol, I don't intend to change that. Also he's an engineer and wearing typical engineer gear. It has only been a year since the end of the lion war :P
Sprites don't come easy and I won't have Twin waste time on a non joining character lol

Ivalice also is not the time period as FF6

Unfortunatly a lot of these are not within our ability. Editing effects is not as customizable as it might seem. It's still the same effect only color and slight appearance edits

Definately don't strain your team over these suggestions. If giving Link the Bull Demon spin animation as it is is easier, I'm still down with that. Leaving it alone also works.

I do feel Mustadio's look is practical and fits fine in Chapter 1, but if he joins later on in the game, a sprite change would be nice. Worst case, I'm sure I could swap it out myself.

My FF6 reference for him was based on the use of the Cyan sprite for two other characters. I had considered a custom sprite that only bears a resemblence to Edgar, without actually being him. BUT IF IT IS SO, I DEMAND! A CHAINSAW ABILITY SLOT BE ADDED! (just kidding buddy)

Keep up the good work!

I actually wanted to make a post to thank nyzer for all the work he's been doing for us. I mean as a team, (Xif, Twin, Angel, Lijj, Choto, Myself) we work a lot of hours and don't really expect a lot of help, since we are all pretty much the best of the best in our respective fields. However when someone like nyzer shows up and at the drop of a simple PM, ends up saving us hours and days worth of work, it is indeed a wonderful thing. nyzer finished all the Rumor replacements as well as Mark messages for the re-release (Accept/Cancel/Bravestory Entry)

I've also finished reworking the tutorial. Don't expect to see anything amazing in the tutorial events, as I only adjusted dialogue. I reworded a lot in the organization section of the tutorial as well as the tips section, and also completely removed and rewrote sections of Tips that were no longer relevant to Jot5. The only derpy one is the Abnormal Status explanation event, since the skillsets are different in Jot5, the status's and skills don't match up (That's what those oracle and wizard units in Shishi are for) I don't expect anyone to need the tutorial anyway, I just wanted to have it done, and not vanilla :P

Also, every single Chapter 1 event fix is done. Expect to see a lot of fixes and small changes there.

i know that Jot5 is called like that cause you use 5 char, but i think it would be something very pleasant, if in the post game(after story) there are missions to recruit old char like alma olan Delita it would make my dream come true and that priest with the hat with ears is something lovely XD LOL

that's why i said after story, i mean once the story is over if char join the party is only for the player pleasure to have different char to play, it sure have nothing to do with the story itself =)

don't know if you evenr played Disgaea, you play the whole story, and after game you get a toons of char who arent even related to the story itself, but is lovely to have them in your team.
Is just a plus service i would say, i wonder if someone can complaine about having more char/class to play if it's not story related!

Yes yes yes... A bunch of underrated characters from all our favorite animes, video games, and "other" will be showing up. We keep suggesting characters. Not to be misunderstood... I'm excited too . It just seems that the possibilities run endlessly.

I'm simply curious if these suggestions are actually helping or are we delaying the re-release and Chapter 2? Characters aside, is there any other part of this project that seems lacking? Or anything we could input that might expedite things?

Please excuse me (everyone) if I seem out of line. As said, top-notch work and many thanks. And if I'm wrong and everything here is as it should be... put Vampire Hunter D in the mix. A creepy battle with him in the very dark castle setting seems like a great idea for a mark (hypocrisy; sometimes *sigh* it just feels so damn good...)

Suggestions are like doing the opposite of keeping chapter 2 / re release from being completed, the motivation from people's interest helps keep the people working on it going!

Body, Mind, Soul ALL ARE SHEARED AWAY!!
If to serve this purpose I am to be despised, my body scorched and blackened... SO BE IT.
If to serve this purpose I am to command forbidden magicks... SO BE IT.
Though my body may be tainted; though my mind may be tainted I imbue thee with thought.

It's still part of the same Sound Novel, Pande. The "Golden Palace" is the name of the location most of the Diary of Nanai's adventure takes place in.

Originally, FFT had four Sound Novels in it that players could check out, but these Sound Novels were never translated outside of Japan. And they were just disabled outright for release in English :P

You know, this kinda reminds of the Gerimonique Scriptures.

I had always wondered why they were so unique an item with such an unique mechanic in the game.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: KingUrameshi on October 08, 2015, 07:25:25 pm
All of the treasure items you would get from propositions were originally supposed to do something I think. Like the materia you get was supposed to strengthen magic so on and so forth. Its great that this team is very knowledgeable about the game and take the time to put in the extras that the original developers left out.

This is hardly a mod and more of an original work that vastly surpasses the original in terms of gameplay.

Actually, there was 5 Novels in game, one of which was the scriptures, which was the only one we got, as it actually has to do with the story of FFT unlike the others. However, these work on much much more of a choose your own adventure style, whereas the scriptures were linear.

I've never heard anything to confirm that, however it doesn't seem to unlikely that this may have originally been the intention before deadlines hit for square. It seems like a real cool idea. Though I cannot say currently how many treasures we will use in Jot5 aside from the books.

Thank you for all the kind words everyone, I'm currently working on the 3rd of 4 Sound Novels, however this one will take a bit longer (though the last 2 only took me 2-3 days each, so longer is like, an extra day) since it was never made avaliable in tactext format, so I'm working off the very old HTML that Heian (DuranBubba) did many years ago. This makes it a much more difficult task than the last 2, however, it will be done non the less :D

We intend to allow unlocking 1 per chapter, assuming the 4th one is translated by the time we work on Chapter 4 :P

For those wondering on progress.

You must understand that the way we are doing things now is different from before. Our goal is to have nearly EVERYTHING done for the entire game by the time the re-release comes out, asside from events. This makes it easier to make future releases as all that will remain for future chapters is the making of the events. (asside from whatever small things need adjusting and such).

Our -goal- is to have the re-release out near the end of this year, no promises, but it is looking in our favor.

Greetings Folks!
I'm a huge fan of Jot5 and give very high props to the entire team for this masterpiece.

I, and I'm sure many others, are wondering if there's a projected re-release date for CH1 and then 2 of your highly touted, highly coveted patch.
I really want to get rolling on this game again but am reluctant to do so until the new one drops!

I know some RL shit was going on and I really hope everything turned out well.
Any update you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

QuoteLots of things are done, and some things aren't done yet. Elaborating any further would include spoilers

Pretty much! When I was able to get into IRC regularly a couple months back, the other (way more involved) developers were still working out the foundation for one of the new features coming in the rerelease (which I can't remember if it was announced publicly, so I'm staying quiet on that). And even my part in the project required some retooling to pull off when we ran into an unexpected text space issue.

The thing about it is that any new features would pretty much have to be set up for the rerelease, because if some great idea pops up  way later on in development, it'd be too hard to work it into the game when it's already got so much done behind it. So all those things have to be ironed out now, their foundations laid, the groundwork begun. Then it all needs to be tested to make sure it works properly.

Jot5 isn't just some little fanfic continuation of FFT. Elric and everyone else design it with the care and attention that a real, proper sequel game would get, even if it DOES use the same engine. Think about the differences between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, especially in the original versions. Granted, MM isn't quite as well loved because it had many differences from the usual Legend of Zelda setup, but it was a massive improvement all around just from the gameplay mechanics alone.

Then, understand that the Jot5 team is trying to surpass that level of improvement. That's how ambitious the rerelease is.

Thanks for your portion Nyzer.

It is very interesting to read about what's going on behind the scenes and when you put it that way, I can understand the time commitment and the careful planning that must go into this whole process. The ambition behind this project is remarkable in its own right and the 'perfection or bust' mentality is one to be adopted. I love the vision and the idea to massively improve the game itself - over all systems that can be altered.

As KingUrameshi said, this game is going to be awesome! I, as well as many others, will happily carve out countless hours to enjoy it! I am very much looking forward to this and figured to send you guys props (not that you need any more motivation). Keep up the great work guys and I'll keep waiting patiently :)

Thanks!!

Yeah I can't wait to see the re-release. I already spent countless hours just playing the current ch1 to get ready for it  With all the changes you guys made I'll definitely play countless more lol. Looking forward to seeing what you guys have in store for re-release and then ch2! Ik you had a lot of rl bs get in the way recently but it's nice to know that even though rl slowed it down, in the end nothing will stop you guys. Thank you guys for all your dedication and hard work!

Post by: 3lric on February 27, 2016, 08:58:43 pm
Thanks guys. I know I'm terrible about updating (unless asked on IRC, hint, hint, nudge, nudge) but I thought I'd let you know that we finished ~433 item descriptions for Jot5 the other day, which should be every single item thru the rest of the entire game. We are trying to do most things in this fashion right now. If we have something that CAN be complete through the end of the game, then we want to do so, (ie: items, skills, etc) so that everything left is just events, story, attack.out and other stuff like that (which is actually done for a good portion of the game currently)

I understand that this takes a lot of time and I still want to thank you all for your patience. The goal of the Jot5 team (which is primarily Team XETA+C now) has always been to make Jot5 seem less like a mod and more like sequel or it's own game. We know you guys loved the attention to detail in the initial release and the re-release adds much more of it.

Big thanks to Twinees, Jumza, nyzer and Xif for the item descriptions. I don't know if any of you here have ever tried to write more than 10 in a row, but seriously, 433? It was pretty intense, Twinees went beast mode last week and knocked out the last 150-200 or so himself. Xif and myself had done many of them before that, but it kind of tappered off when I got sick, so having Twin, Jumza and nyzer knock the rest of them out was a big help.

Many people may not know that the team currently consists of about 5-6 people +/- 1 or 2. So everyone has their own amount of work on their shoulders, as we pretty much have 1 (sometimes 2) person handling their own respective departments, while I kinda float between everything except ASM and spriting. We've tried to recruit more people to the team, but majority of people only want to do FFTP work, and that's definitely not something we are in need of lol.

If anyone is interested in working with us on Jot5, we are always looking for new talent. However, before trying to hop on board, i strongly suggest reading THIS (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=11038.0) post. Looking for talent does not mean we are desperate, so without some kind of skill or ability that we are in need of, it likely wouldn't work out. We ARE however, willing to teach, but only if initiative is shown, I will no longer be attempting to teach anyone events that isn't willing to spend the time to learn them, nor make time to be here at least once every day or 2. The same goes for everything else we do. This isn't me being a dick, this is me not wanting to waste anymore time training people who don't have drive to make a game.

Again, thank you all for your patience and I can very much promise that in the end it will be worth it. I will try to update again soon with a list of some of the bigger changes you'll see in the re-release. I've have a record of them for some time now, I just haven't had the time to sort through it all and make it into a cohesive forum post, as my time is usually better spent doing other Jot5 stuff ;)

Thanks mighty Overseer.

I recently started working out again, as I'm studying to be a personal trainer, and my favorite part of any workout is after the nutrition and shower are done I can lay down and play a good strategy game while my body recovers.

As long as your team keeps up the good work, I will maintain all my excitement, support and enthusiasm. You guys are gonna blow everyone away and make a lot of people happy. I mean A LOT! Vanilla has a sick following (rightfully so) and people are going to be finding and flocking to this mod for months. Not sure what else to say.... I love you???

Sweet deal! Glad to hear everything is going well and looking forward to seeing the changes! I wish I could offer some assistance right now but I do not have any extra time at the moment. Hopefully that will change in a few months here. I have still been trying to learn how to event in my spare time but it is going much slower now than it was. Still moving forward though! Good luck with everything guys, I will try and offer some assistance when I can.

Got a question, and hopefully one that has not already been addressed...

Can you give the random monsters single items/pieces of equipment to steal? I thought of it because I saw a patch where a Worker 8 enemy had an Iron Helm. Considering that you could steal items from monsters in the main series, I thought it seemed practical, and it would give the thieves a lot more to do.

Nothing rare of course, since it's only Chapter 1 & 2, but giving them anything worth stealing repeatedly would make the random encounters much more interesting. Just a suggestion, if nothing else.

We won't have that in Jot5. However, with the new crafting/synthesis system, you'll be able to scavenge (provided you have the skill via learning it, or other means) dead monsters for materials used in crafting.

I want to make a post soon about what you can expect to see in the re-release since all the info is all over. I'll try to do that within the next few days.

Any Updates? I know that I am not the only one that checks back regularly to see if any news is up about the progress of the project, and I know that as soon as re-release does drop that the forums will light up again with comments.

Right now I think that most people are just a little disconnected from the project because of the perceived rate of progress being very low and whether that is in fact the case or not. We see the forum start date of 3 years ago come and go and no news in months. I hope that the project is still on track.

We loved Chapter 1 and look forward to all the changes to it in the re-release, as well as the prospect of what Chapter 2 and beyond will hold. Any update that you guys have would be welcomed.

Still on track, we just made a lot of work for ourselves to further improve the final product. There's still work being done daily, though sometimes the work we do increases rather than decreases the total work load. But it's all for The Greater Good.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes
Post by: 3lric on April 16, 2016, 01:40:56 pm
Angel is correct on all points here.

The fact of the matter is that I would love to post a big update detailing everything we've been doing. However, every time I want to do so, I end up working on the project itself instead since I always feel my time is better spent doing so. I realize that this makes it seem like progress is slow going or has even halted, but we can assure you that this is very much not the case.

The latest progress has been in descriptions and skillsets. For example, as many of you who have kept up with my previous posts know, we are implementing a sort of crafting system. You can expect to be able to scavenge monsters for materials, do marks to mine for ore, collect wood, and even manage a farm, all to be able to create your own items instead of being forced to buy or find everything you use. However, what many people -don't- know is how long something like this takes. When you add in the fact that we renamed almost every item in the game + came up with all the materials, that was 429 items that needed to be named and then have descriptions written for them. This was no easy task and took months not to mention the custom inventory icons that had to be made. Now that that is done, we still have to figure out exactly how many of what material you will get from each of these things, and then with that information, we can decide how many of each item is needed to synth each item we have able to be synthed, even though the items used for synth for each item -have- already been chosen, the amounts needed have not.

Now, ontop of that, as many of you also know, an internal goal of the re-release is to have nearly EVERYTHING done thru the end of the game aside from some story stuff and the events for Ch3 and 4. This last few weeks, we've named every single job/skillset that I can imagine will appear in the game, and written descriptions for ALL of those as well. Currently I'm working through choosing skills for all of these skillsets and actually have all but a few completely filled out, we will even have a few skills left over to add in for a miniboss or two later on if we so choose to do so. The only real thing left for skills is implementation and testing. (Before you get excited, we are taking measures to ensure that no information from a future chapter will be accessible via tactext or other means, just because it's done, doesn't mean we are going to spoil our work by letting you see into the future.)

I know it might seem silly to some people for us to do it this way, since it seems like it could be easier to just do 1 chapters worth of content each time we want to release a chapter, but this causes problems in the end when we decide to change something for the better or rewrite something, etc. With us doing it this way, it takes a HUGE amount of anxiety and workload off of our shoulders for future chapters, and ensures that future chapters production time will be far shorter than they are currently, since the only things we will be working at that point will be story and events. Good news is that the story has always been planned out, it's more just brainstorming and getting everything nailed down and broken down into event scripts. Durbs used to do this, but has been replaced by Angel/Toshiko, who has been doing a phenomenal job revamping the first 2 chapters of dialogue.

Again, I know this has been a long time coming, but we are ANYTHING but slacking off. You can expect to see 6 new marks in Chapter 1, plus the marks associated with material gathering. You'll be able to read our new version of rumors at the bars known as Bar Banter, which details the goings on of Ivalice from the eyes of some of the commoners who frequent said bars. You can expect to see an entirely rebuilt Marks system, which will replace the propositions from Vanilla. You can expect to be able to read and play thru the Sound Novels in english. You can EXPECT to be amazed by these and many other things we've done for the re-release.

In the end, yes, it is hard waiting on a game that is being made by a team of perfectionists. However, at the same time, you can always confirm that progress is ongoing, and if you contact me via IRC, maybe ill even shoot you a video or two. Our Team doesn't give up, which is more than I can say for 99% of the modding community on the internet. I promised many years ago to deliver you all the largest FFT mod that has ever existed, and I fully plan to deliver this. We do this all you for, the fans, words cannot express the warmth I've felt from all the positive feedback, LPs and thousands of downloads we've gotten. Our goal is to return that favor to the best of our ability and to pull no punches in doing so.

This sounds very ambitious and nerve racking. When changing a game drastically from the original "demo" there are many things that can go wrong. I encourage you all to take your time as balancing can either make or break any game and the original difficulty made this game very enjoyable. I think I speak for everyone when I say we the fans would like to see the final product released as a game that is as smooth as possible with little revision as that would really show the talent of the developers behind it

The prospects of a farm to me is like building and running your own town, which has always been one of my favorite game mechanics in those games that have them. Crafting gives a lot of depth to a game by functioning as side quests and increases the fun factor. Keeping certain job classes in mind is also important as to still make them worthwhile with all the added content. It sounds like this project will still be in development for quite some time and I encourage the developers to do their best in identifying ways the game can be exploited and balancing it in order to get the most fun out of it. Keep up the good work, I know this game will blow most everyone away with just the chapter 2 release.

Awesome, thanks for the update man!

I know I been hanging out here long enough to know that you guys are always pushing forward with this, but I do understand that it is tough waiting in the dark for something. I would definitely rather you keep working on the game than keeping us posted though, but this is much appreciated! Everything sounds awesome and I can't wait to see what you guys have in store. This update goes a long way and gives us a lots of exciting material to contain us for a while  ;)

The crafting system sounds even better than I imagined, didn't think that was possible lol. Farms??? Can't wait to see how you incorporate that.

I got a few questions. Feel free not to answer if you don't want to reveal it.
So will there be unique items only available through crafting?
And I remember the treasures being mentioned somewhere on FFH as having a function, like materia treasure could have an effect like 1+ magic or something along those lines. Will treasures make an appearance in your mod at all and will they have any kind of function? (besides things like the novels anyways, which I already know your using)

i guess when this game will come out, the download will jump about 10 times more.
As i'm reading this isn't even worth to call a mod XD it's like a revisioned version of FFT 2, guess not even square could have done it with all this passion ,an details.

If there is not, you guys should add a Donation button where to click  ,because i'm sure some would donate for all the work and the free game we will download.

I know you don't do this for money, but i honestly think you deserve at least some, more like to see that people  DO REALLY appreciate your work , not only with words, but with fact too.
I would definitely donate if there was a option to do so, when you guys release the full game.

Thanks fellas, and yeah, it's no easy task, especially for Xifanie, who handles the coding behind these awesome new mechanics. She seriously deserves a lot more praise than she gets.

As for donations. We will never be accepting those. While I myself have put a lot of my own money into this mod, we cannot actually accept money, making mods isn't exactly legal to begin with and accepting funds would be a fast train to C&D.

However, if someone did want to donate, i would instead ask that you take that urge and instead use it to play with some of the hacks Xifanie has made and posted to the site. There are so many awesome things that can be done with the hacks she has released in the last 2 years and they really could use more recognition than just being used in Jot5! Even if you were to just do something like setup a synth shop or soldier office upgrade and release them in a vanilla mod with no other changes, that would still be great to see!

I think a lot of it is because you are the "face" of JOT5, and a lot of people probably just thank you guys without realizing everyone involved and who does what... I didn't even really know who was responsible for what until I started hanging around here for a few months.

Xif does do awesome work though, she's like a wizard in the shadows lol( Wish I could remember where that "Are you a wizard!?" pic was  :P) .
All you guys are awesome really, it's definitely the whole team that makes JOT5 shine.

I will definitely try and put some good use to xif's hacks though. I haven't got as far as I would have liked by now in learning how to mod, but yeah that's life for ya. I am still moving along tho, I just haven't had much time to do shit lately, but I will have a break here in next couple months and I want to start picking it up again. I do try to keep up to date with everything so when I do jump back in I'll know what I have to work with  ;) I'm really looking forward to seeing how that job class hack works out, and be able to do monster class changes

Thanks for the update!

Elric, is there anyway you could possibly send me some sample videos? I would love to see what you're working with.

I of course understand if this is not possible.

thanks to you and your team!

I'll admit, right now I'm not exactly in a good position to work fast... in fact, I haven't been in years. I'm, whoever, the one with the highest workload besides Elric on the project. But it's also lots of coding, ASM hacking and so on... making me the only person able to work on these things. I'm not proud to say I am slowing the project down, but I am.

My wife and I have a very tight financial situation, and it's been this way for years. Her job hardly pays anything, she hardly gets any hours. Even if she has 7 years of experience in management, a few in IT, and some more in customer service, yet she won't get hired by anyone, much less in her field (seriously, fuck this economy). She's a very hard worker, always giving her all at work and really deserves a better job than this... Having her work more hours on a better job would allow me to reduce my stress levels and dedicate far more time to working on the project. So please, if you could offer my wife a better job... that'd be great. (Current location: U.S. Pennsylvania, willing to relocate)

Man if i had any power to do so , i would have gladly.
But i live in ireland moving to germany soon.

Elric are you sure , a Donation button for the work you're doing, and not for the game itself, would be illegal?

There is many way go around the "Legal" thing if that is the problem. Just put donation for another reason!
Everyone would know the real reason, and i think it's legal no?
Aniway if you guys don't want this or really can't i think you have to know, you have all our respect and admiration for what you are doing.

Nah, it would be too much of a hassle tbh, there may only be a few of us that work on Jot5 currently (Xif, Angel, Twin, Jumza, Nyzer, Myself, Choto) However, we do not all live in the same country, not to mention past members who I wouldn't want to leave out, which would add another 3 or 4 different countries to the mix. I'd honestly have no idea how to fairly split it up based on conversion rates as well as quantity and quality of work. Besides, I was never in this for money, as I'm sure can be said for the rest of the team. I'm in this because I love FFT, and I love the fan support we get for it!

It won't play a huge factor, though, like Propositions from vanilla, I'd imagine there will be some marks that can only be accessed during certain times of the year.

I mean, in vanilla the only time it came into play was with the Propositions, as well as the 1 year jump from Ch1 to Ch2 (which Jot5 doesn't have)

I was just browsing through the Patches. First off, all the concepts are awesome! Very mouth-watering to any hardcore FFT fan :D. But I couldn't help but notice almost all of them were under development. Is there another list of completed ones around this site?

I did play Call of Power awhile back. Crazy amount of new content! Big thanks to those involved with this patch! But I didn't like that all the battles were back-to-back. I enjoy grinding and building up a roster. Any suggestions? I'd love a patch to hold me over until Jot5 is hot n ready.

Well when I was talking about the hacks on the site above, I was referring to Xifanie's ASMs and tools, not actual mods.

For story mods, you could try CoP (as already mentioned), A Stones Ripple demo, or tabletop demo, as well as Souls of Destiny. Aside from Jot5, these are the only story mods being worked on and non are finished as of yet, and I cannot give an ETA on any of them as Rufio is gone, Jumza is rarely around (other than randomly in the help section :P) and CONMAN rarely talks. lol

There are completed vanilla mods on the site if thats your thing though.

Celdias  http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?board=60.0

monster tactics http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=10886.0

although I have been meaning to, I haven't got around to playing these 2 myself. I believe they are both completed though( or at least several chapters ). They both look very interesting, I just haven't got around to playing them yet.

Another one I did play was souls of destiny http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=9333.0

he's got 2 chapters done and working on the third. Some graphical glitches but nothing that effects gameplay IMO. Lots of new characters and unique skills sets and a kick ass story.

There also a couple others being worked on like stones ripple but he is pretty busy atm (working on JOT5) ;)

*edit* Elric beat me to the punch  celdias is a vanilla mod but monster tactics and souls are story mods and if you haven't played CoP lately....it's definitely worth it!

*edit again* Oh yeah and eternal has been working on some ffta/ffta2 mods but I haven't got around to looking into those yet. They are in the non-fft hacking section of the forum if you want to check them out!

Will Jot5 change/clarify the ending of the original game slightly to help fit Jot5's story. Example: adding a scene in Jot5 that shows certain people leaving Ramza's party before entering into Orbonne/Dead City (Orlandu, Rafa, Malak...).

How did Ramza survive his encounter with Altima? We might find out these answers during the game but it was implied that Ramza and Alma might have died.

Didn't you view the bravestory in Jot5? Pretty much everything is bridged there, there are even some bonus scenes as well.

No it wasn't, you see him and Alma on chocobos during the funeral scene at the end.

I read all of it just been awhile, thanks. It's up for debate on how the creators wanted the final scenes to be interpreted, I felt it could have gone either way.
Title: Re: Re-Release Info and Changes

Orlandu even says in the letter to Ramza in Jot5 that he saw Ramza's arm get broken during the fight with Altima, and wishes him a "swift recovery".

The hows and whys of the group's survival are left up in the air, but they had all the Zodiac Stones by then. It's safe to assume that could have played a part in it. Whatever the reason, FFT shows us that the explosion on the airship was not fatal for the party (the final scene), and either Vormav was lying out his ass (which seems likely) or the group found a different way out. Maybe they all grinded for JP against Ultima Demons until everyone had Teleport. :P

QuoteIt's up for debate on how the creators wanted the final scenes to be interpreted, I felt it could have gone either way.

Fully recognizable ghosts really aren't a thing in Ivalice, and if Olan was just seeing a vision or ghosts of some kind, why would Chocobos be involved? Plus I'm pretty sure FFT's original creator has tweeted that Ramza and Alma survived. It's easily explained why Arazlam never found any records of Ramza after the Lion War due to Ramza's new cover identity as Drake Seymour and the fact that even though Olan was enough of a martyr to get himself killed for the Durai Papers, he wouldn't risk Ramza's life in the process.

In an interview it was said that Ramza and Alma did indeed survive and would be off in another land having adventures. I always just assumed that rhe zodiac stones saved them upon defeating Altima.

That ship was high up in the air AND completely exploded. Only the stones could've saved them from all that and return them from that dead city. Otherwise, the awesome writing of this game abruptly ceased to be...

"So they're wicked high on this airship, and it totally explodes, and..."

-They all MegaMan-teleported back to Dr. Light's lab?
-They quickly flew away, like all anime characters in every opening sequence?
-They all piled into a refrigerator like Indiana Jones surviving against a nuclear bomb testing?
-Superman? (because, apparently, that guy can do anything)

Thanks for clarifying the ending, I didn't know the creators made them survive, it was always unclear for me as to whether they were still alive or not. I had some friends who didn't use some of the characters (like Cid) and I even went through the last few fights after kicking some people out to see if the ending would change a little but it never did.

That ship... was clearly designed to be a broken-down wreck, so it wasn't flying. And characters simply walk onto it from the prow. That's nothing more than the effect you get at the edge of any FFT map where it drops into nothingness.

Don't tell me that Mandalia Plains sits in the middle of the sky, too! :P

Yes, the airship explodes, but we're talking about a bunch of experienced warriors, mages, monsters, and a robot that have all survived worse than a blue explosion, and no one said they escaped uninjured. That's why Jot5 talks about Ramza having an arm broken in that fight, beyond the help of a simple Cure spell. Granted, he's riding Chocobos with that arm not long afterwards, but that doesn't mean the arm was back to normal or even that he should have been so reckless with it. And who's to say Ramza was the only one who was injured after that? It's just that nobody died, which isn't that impressive of a feat when White Magic does exist and there were no enemies stopping them from administering care.

Delita survives being consumed by the flames and explosions at Zeakden. Mustadio survives despite being slain as per Ramza's sarcastic order. Malak is resurrected following a Cutscene Death. Alma teleports out of her own possessed body.

Death is cheap. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeathIsCheap)

The group surviving (even if only after being healed up by any still-conscious Job with rez/healer skills) isn't that far-fetched. The airship not being in the sky isn't that far-fetched - we just don't see any ground or connecting support structures so as to allow more focus on the sheer wtfsplosions of all the story effects there. The group returning to Ivalice even eventually isn't far-fetched either.

Well, hey, I don't think anyone's ever said whether Dr. Light is the Cloaked Stranger, so who knows? ;) It's not him, no.

Just a little something that Twinees put together for me the other day. This is intended to be used for systems/frontends that allow images or metadata, such as an ICON0 image for both PSP or PS3, or for things like Android PSX emulators or Retropie, etc. As the re-release will work with these things.

Looks good as always Twinees! I like how ramza is just having a little moment to himself lol and for some reason I just picture snake being more realistic if he was just a box with smoke coming out of it  Even the shadows in the back are custom, took me a min to figure out char one was which ( besides ramza who kinda sticks out with his hand up and cape blowing in the wind  ;) ).

Nice to know that Elric is still on the fight. And yeah, I'm still waiting for Chapter 2.

Definitely! Been very busy myself, but I always pop in to check things out. Hope all is going well on the game, and IRL.

That actually makes a lot more sense than ramza being a spaz with his arm in the air  Suprised I missed that. I'm pretty burnt lately, and not in the good way (yet).
