UPDATED 2/16/10

Hey everyone, here's the finished sprite. Barring any weirdness or errors, this should be the final and complete version. Enjoy!

Special Thanks to Smash for the amazing portrait
and
Cheetah and Kuraudo Sutoraifu for the original concept and letting me complete their idea
and
the rest of the FFH community, everyone here rocks.

Will be uploading to site submission board tonight.

Looking like a good start. The shorts are definitely nice, but the feet look rather small for some reason. Are you going to have the arms be completely original?

That's pretty damn good. I like the way the shirt & the gauntlets came out.
The only thing I'd change is a minor detail. The eyebrows are brown, but most sprites in the game use black. Like I said it's a very negligible detail.

I agree on the feet. It's been difficult to get a sandal style in there. I will keep working on them but the face and hair are my next targets.

The arms are based off of the female monk's arms with some slight changes. I'd like to polish them a bit more to make the bucklers or elbow shields a bit more prominent.

I'd really like to get the rood necklace in there but there's not enough pixels.

Hmm, well in Ashley's memory he does have relatively normal bangs, would it be acceptable to add those on? Other then that looks pretty good!

Don't for get about the Geomancer's sandles, they are a great base if you make them black.

Yeah the bucklers on the gauntlets could be a bit more prominent as well. You might want to just start with the female monks and then work from there.

Hard to tell from the size of it. Do you have a double-sized one? And perhaps one from a diagonal?

I'll back you up.

Cleaned it up a bit, made a pallete fix, added more contrast, and -2 colours. I still don't get why use 5 blacks that look just exactly the same. The less colours, the better.

Hmm, you made his antenna hair look pretty plausible Smash, great job! (I don't know... without it he just doesn't seem like he'd be Ashley Riot)

The color corrections look good, buffing up the arms good, the shorts look a little plain (but that is expect from a front angle I suppose), improvements to the gantlets are good. The sprite hair is a very good attempt, is there any way to lower or spread out the hair a bit, it just looks a bit too vertical at this point.

Oh and the portrait is pretty freaking amazing. I feel like there is something a bit off but I can't put my finger on it.

Cleaned up quite a bit after Smash's post. Still working well within 16 colors and eliminated all the similar blacks. I adjusted the sandals, arms, bucklers (I didn't like making them so wide) face and hair, sans antennae. I'm not really sure I'm sold on it yet, though I may play with it in the 3/4ths poses and see what I can do there.

I plan on adding some red into the back of the bucklers in the back poses, but other than that, I think the color scheme works well.

Smash, your portrait is great. The only thing I dislike is that the hair looks a little on the limp side. Would you mind terribly if I touched it up a bit and used it for this sprite?

Not at all.

The only thing I disagree with on the sprite is the saturated orange on the hair and the pants. It looks bad, and too bright.

You're right, and I already have a brown that fits nicely where the orange went. I'm a sucker for bright colors.

Color count now is 11. Any ideas to actually ADD colors to this sprite?

In the game he does have a nice navy blue as part of his shorts. Also the red for the cross on his guantlets.

I'm with Smash in that orange in the hair is a bit much.

The recent attempt looks better. Don't add colours unless it's necessary. Also, what are the things you added to the pants? they are kind of incoherent. Are they supposed to be buckles or something? Finally, I think you might need softer shading on the boots. That's just a bit too much black

Worked on the 3/4th view and TRIED... yes, I tried...to get the JRPG hair to work. I'm still not sold on it yet. Anyway take a look and let me know. It may come down to a vote on the haircut.

Hmm, in my opinion it looks quite good, my only critique is something looks a little wrong with his eye, but... in the atua sprite preview above them, it looks fine. Also the hair does seem an improvement, great use of lighter colors as well.

Ok, attempt number 2 at the haircut.

Wow that hair is impressive on the second version. Very nice, plus the bit of red for the gauntlets. The shape of his body is looking a bit odd, his chest looks kind of saggy. But definitely very much in the right direction.

So I gave the JRPG hair a shot, and it doesn't look so bad. Granted, it took forever, much longer that doing Crono's haircut. Thoughts? Comments?
