So I've been hearing there's a new text editor avilable, but im at a loss as how to get it and use it respectively.

Right now I have the FFTacText that comes with FFPatcher ver0.271

What's the difference between this one than the old one? Where do I download it?

I refuse to play Final Fantasy Tactics again until I am able to do my FF6 patch! And, FFT 1.3 doesn't technically count as FFT: so there!

Youll see there is to many differences, a major one being the gui and that it patches correctly without messing up world.bin.

you have to start a new text, on a fresh ISO, or you will bug out and it let you patch it :( just make a new ISO and repatch everything(with the new shishi, hopefully if you added sprites you made a .shishi file to organize htem for later use)

Hm. Shishi files? All I do is have a batch of BMPs in which I edit regularily to Import on. I use Shishi found on FFPatcher ver0.352

Now to the questions:
What the heck is a gui?
Can I edit text on ISOs altered with FFPatcher and/or Shishi?
Text byte limits?
Anything else I should know?

So, meaning this text editor won't mess up other things like abilities position on formation screen?

QuoteWhat the heck is a gui?

Graphic user interface.  It's prettier.

QuoteCan I edit text on ISOs altered with FFPatcher and/or Shishi?

I think SB was saying no, but I drew the text files from 13026 (read: a patched iso) and implemented them fine sans some ability offsetting only in battle, which I think was the world.bin bug that got fixed.

QuoteText byte limits?

Theoretically, yes.  But so far it hasn't been an issue.

Are you sure it doesnt work?
Because I'm using the editor direct on my Patched ISO, and it's working perfectly.

I meant if you patched an ISO with the OLD text editor, it will freak out with the new one

the old one used a different patching method, and the new one will have no idea where the old patching method ended in the file

I think melonhead fixed that in that version, but i recently tried it and it still wouldnt let me patch.

Is anyone else experiencing a bug with the text patcher, where the brave story entries are being shifted over to the left over the character portraits?

I can't seem to find the text for skillset descriptions. I found the one for job descriptions, but not skillset. Can they be edited with this tool?

EDIT: Also, it doesn't seem to change in-battle skillset names. Do these needs to be hex edited as well?

well.....did you look through the correct file?
for battle skillsets are at battle.bin
for formation skillsets are at world.bin
for skillsets description in battle also at battle.bin
and for skillsets description at formation is at world.bin, if i'm not mistaken.

While we're on the subject matter, I'll copy over what Hawking posted in another text editing topic:

Texterreplaces small strings with whatever you want, and is relatively simple.

AutoHotkey is capable of more complex tasks, I think, but uses small scripting files.

This is a GODSEND for text editing.  I used texter.

So for like the 1.3 text edits, Cl became Sg with a single button press.  It really cut down input time since I didn't need to even highlight Cl to delete it.
