Here is the thread to post comments, critiques, or generally mock my first efforts at spriting for FFT.

My Altair came about because I was lucky enough to get the character Alaire in my initial party and he immediately showed physical class leanings.  A few characters switched on LionEditor (I realized after leveling that I could just buy a new soldier and name him Altair, doh) and I had my Altair in name and skills.  Base class Ninja with Steal sub. First Strike.  Concentration. Ignore Height.  But it didn't end there.  I swapped his character to Loffery (Rofel for PSX veterans) and he started to slightly resemble the assassin.  Of course, he stays as Ramza in the Formation screens and Divine Knight skills don't really work for what I'm going for.  Thus, the brand new sprite is born.

I have completed some basic poses and would love some feedback.  Please crush my ego.

methinks more white on the legs and those eyes... try using a normal face then just use some darker skin colors
I never learn from my mistakes.

does have lots of potential but the eyes look ****ed up and scared be a bit when i first looked at them.....like something from texas chainsaw massacre
Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness, bringing torment and pain to others. Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin, perhaps...it is time to die

:P Looks good, but I think the cape will kind of 'Flick' as the shading is slanted in the back, and the animations reverse for the other directions...  :\ You may want to change the cape's shading...

It looks good. I might suggest using dark skin tones for some of the eye shading, but I'm not sure. But what in god's name are you using to blow those pics up. They make your good sprite look like crap haha, it is trying really hard to make sense of about 50 pixels and failing. Most people just do a straight blow up with no anti-aliasing, makes most sprites look better.

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. I'll definitely make changes to the eyes.  I'll try to swap in the bottom from an orator or summoner to get a more precise view of his jacket.

I picked up from yesterday that you recommend displaying sprites at actual and 3x size (got it from the Halloween posting) so I will try that too.  Hope to have a new build out by lunch today.

Ok, here is the latest.  Altair's skin now matches Marach and Rapha.  Rather than a templars coat, he has a flowing jacket with red belt.  I only got the formation pose done, but you get the idea.
