FFT Arena AI Tournament Season One Intro

^, don't want to make a loser's intro, accidentally erased the files off of my Laptop + it's in an MP4 Format, which Camtasia doesn't recognize unfortunately.

Is experience necessary? This looks like fun, but I'll probably get wrecked haha.

Not at all. It's more of trial and error in understanding the AI on how they function. Make a team, test it against a few other ones, and keep doing so until you're satisfied with your refined product. That's all there's to it.

And yes, it's very fun to watch the AI slaughter each other into trillions of pieces :D

No. Soleil said he would, but due to his last comment (here in this thread), I think he changed his mind.

@ fdc - Three weeks isn't enough!? I made and finalized my team within a few days (6 hours throughout that time period) at most while dealing with a 40 hour a week job. You may be in school, but that's not a good reason to not be able to create a team within that allotted time. Besides, dragging on a tourney's not a good idea by prolonging as to when it actually starts. I'd rather get this and everything else out of the way well in advance that way people aren't asking questions later.

@ Gaignun - Sweet! You wouldn't mind generating a bracket as well and assigning the commentators their sections to record too would you (Given the fact that you'll have the maps generated for each match)?

Just a note, due to the results from the "bo3 or bo5 for the finals?" poll, I'm not going to record the championship match due to it being completely unfair to the loser's bracket champ.
45
I have to disagree Eternal, three weeks worth of time to register is more than enough. 4/17 (Mid-April) was what I had in mind seeing as that's how long people were given to register for S5. I'm curious to see how far Gaignun's come along generating the maps for each match, since that's a variable which should be accounted when making an official deadline.

As of now, I can easily c/p the Season 1 FFT Arena Tournament Video Page (A rough draft of course) and prep up ahead of time. Actually, I nearly forgot about making an intro clip, which I think I'll get to now considering I'm off work tomorrow.

QuoteIf we get rid of the JP Cap while allowing 2 copies of abilities/equips then basically you're asking for a free-for-all which basically allows players to OP their team more than it needs to me honestly.

If people have issues with units becoming OP due to having unlimited options in abilities, then simply nerf those abilities that are allowing them to become that good/"OP". AFAIK, many of the reaction abilities have been weeded out like abandon where it only multiplies evasion by 1.5x as opposed to 2x as well as Auto Potion so that it heals 80 HP instead of 30.

Quote from: People who submitted teams haven't made any complaints about the JP Cap dictating how good a unit can be.

This isn't a matter of complaining but rather stating a very obvious prohibition that's nonsensical in every stretch of the imagination.

Quote from: In fact not everyone needs to reach or exceed 3000 JP anyways because they are good enough as it is.

That's true, there are instances where you don't want to use up all your JP as the AI prioritizes skills over others and almost never uses the ones on the bottom of the list. But, the opposite's also true where a unit will "purchase" expensive R/S/M's and have no more JP to let's say buy up all the abilities in the item skillset (Holy Water, Bandage) for example.

QuoteIf we only allowed only one copy of abilities/equipment then yes, no JP Cap is more than fair but other than that I disagree.

^, that rule was only put in place for S5 because it had to be adjusted to the 1.3038 patch at the time. Here however, there's no such purpose making it a meaningless boundary.

tl;dr This patch has the freedom to do w.e. it wants to and a JP cap only cuts team creation drastically. All what I'm advocating is that after the tournament, this has to be looked at seeing as how it's meant to be balanced for 4v4 AI matches where there's no rule smacked on top of it like 1.3 needed to to differentiate it from the Player vs AI single player perspective that it was designed for.
48
@ Gaignun - I'm aware that more trials means that there will be a more accurate take on the two teams when pitted against each other. However, from the loser's bracket champ's position, that would put him/her at a greater disadvantage where they'd have to six out of ten rounds as opposed to four out of six. That's biased and prejudicial.

If people want to test Team A against Team B and see videos of it, they can simply request for a series of matches outside of tournaments, or in other words, exhibitions. Hell, one could load it up using the Memory Card Generator and get an idea of where his/her team's weaknesses are against another.

49
Voted for the top option since everyone's adjusted to the rules as they are right now, but I do want to make one comment below...

Although this won't pertain to this tourney and rather for future ones, I'd personally get rid of the JP Cap system entirely as it's incredibly arbitrary and dictates just how good a unit can be and for no legitimate reason whatsoever.

I repeated this sentiment before about bo5 in general and I'll repeat it in this case, it's redundant. You're essentially going back to a bo3 if both teams win one round each within the first two rounds and frankly, I don't wanna watch them duke it out on possibly 10 maps (Assuming the loser's bracket champ wins his/her first series of bo5). Six in of itself is enough.

And personally, I'd prefer no commentary since it'd be a more suspenseful experience as opposed to listening to "blah blah blah" where it'd most likely interfere with the match.

Well considering that the only things that need to be done outside of figuring out who's going to record what matches are: 1. Generating the Match layouts (Match X = S,L,M) for the entire tournament, and 2. Copy/Pasting the Registration + Season Videos pages, I'll volunteer to do #1,and considering that I've already done it once, it'll probably be the smoothest experience for me compared to everyone else.

As for the rest of the stuff that needs to be done, that's all elementary and I'll leave it up to rest of you guys to figure it out.

Btw, it takes MANY hours to figure out the matches for the entire tournament provided you do it properly with the RNG selecting every map one time each then repeat the cycle :P

Too lazy to point it out until now, but the descriptions for Esuna and Stigma Magic shouldn't list Berserk since Berserk's now only cured by Refute.

I wouldn't mind putting my name in the hat as well. Even though I think that there's some horrible balance issues that are incredibly apparent, that isn't enough of a reason for me to sit on the sidelines and not participate/make vids for a tournament of all things :P

This isn't necessarily brand new as in today, but I did start quite a few newer playthroughs like a few days ago and thought I'd share them with y'all:

Pokemon Liquid Crystal < Current as of Part 1

I Wanna Be The Guy < Current as of the 2nd Part 12 XP

Pokemon Liquid Crystal < Current as of Part 1

SMW Rom Hack - Nine Inch Fireballs < Current as of Part 1

SMW Rom Hack - Dan's Adventure < Current as of Part 1

^, will be updating all of these regularly on my "My LP's" thread, these is just a heads up to these new games I'm playing :P

I thought I'd submit these in case anybody wanted to give each of these fights a fair shot with the designated setups I made. Or, you can continue off wherever and have your own little adventure and go a different way if you so desire.
