Title: Creating a new special character?
Post by: Argg0 on July 07, 2008, 02:59:59 am
So, I've been wondering... how can we create a new special character?

Apparently, Special Jobs are linked to it's sprite, at least from what I've seen.

I tried creating a "new" class using Duke and put it on a random battle, joining after battle. Using the "monster sprite strategy"... though it didn't work.

So, I tried giving him Balmafula sprite and Duke job... though, when I changed back the job he was an Arch Witch.

So, anyone knows how to create new special characters?

I think the "job slots" are hard coded much in the same way that all the ability slots and item slots are hard coded...

Since we can't CREATE new abilities, we don't know how to ADD real jobs from scratch either..

But my guess would be to start working with the sprite sets, because, for example, the Elmdor Sprite Set is obviously linked to an 1B Arc Knight Base Job.

So Modifying the Sprite Sets is what you want AFAIK?

Not, not create a completely new one.

Using an existing one and making it work with one sprite I want.

Like, If I want someone to have Duke instead of Squire (like Agrias has Holy Knight instead of Squire) and look like a Male Ninja on any job he is.

How can I do that?

I also would like to know this. It's driving me insane, and I don't want to resort to replacing a character that I actually care about.

Well you see there are copies of character's you could use, like Agrias, Gafgarion, Mustadio, etc, that can be replaced. Though there might be a few problems from thereon out.

as far as using these extra character SPR sheets, there's not any way to direct the game to make a class use that sprite.

zodiac claims to have found a way to do what you are reque... b.. bouncy!... s-sorry what you are requesting. which will be a great benefit to all of us. he just hasn't mentioned how to do it yet.. perhaps it will be included in a newer patcher eventually?.

I just don't want people to be playing with that already, just figuring out how to expand the FFT ISO before and reassign all files manually.

Once I'm done, cd-tool should be able to generate tons of empty sprites and effect files and we'll never have space problems again.

that'll be wikked. i do agree with you as well. its probably a bad idea to mess with expanding untill you figure it out. it could royall screw up files if done wrong eh...

So, Zodiac, did you figure out how to make one sprite have a new "natural" job?

Like, If I want Ramza base job to be a Holy Knight instead of Squire?

Just text edit and change all the stuff you want?

You just text edit Squire's name, and job description with FFTactext, then just change the skillset associated with the Squire job you are changing to Holy Sword using the FFT patcher and that should do it. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

argg0 meant how to make a specific sprite assigned to a different job slot (which would also make it access a different sprite and picture in the menu as well... would it not?)

Argg0 means generating brand new Sprite Sets + Job Links into the game

We believe there is a link between Sprite Set and BASE JOB (base job of Elmdor Sprite Set is Arc Knight + Generic Job Wheel, for example)

Argg0 wants to know if it is possible to create a NEW Sprite Set and assign it it's own BASE JOB

(Much like Generic Male has Squire as it's Base job + Generic Job Wheel)

Sounds interesting, can't wait until it's finished...

Would this also mean we could create our own events?
