Completed Mods / Re: Patch testing for WotL!
April 01, 2012, 09:42:13 pm
just chiming in to say a big THANK YOU!!

i remember brainstorming with others about this back when the game came out and we really didnt get anywhere (obviously) - was recently chatting on a forum about this game and a user was asking if they should play this or the PSX version. I told them the only drawback (aside from the questionable script) were the slowdown and aspect ratio - a helpful poster linked me back here to find these awesome patches.

running WotL from ISO on prome4. no other plugins. both works perfectly, game exits just fine. thinkin i may drop the stretch fix since it does shrink the used pixel space a bit... but its awesome to have the choice.

thanks again! squinting through the dialog, this may now be the definitive version of FFT!

crosspost from: http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtop ... 3&start=40

just wanted to drop a note in here as well.

posted in the WotL forum; i was able to come across a few instances in 1.3 on WotL that had de-lagged spell animations.

long story short: knight skills with units using bows/crossbows sometimes (cant confirm always) executed with /no/ framerate limitation. (i.e. they were very fast, not 30fps normalish and not 15fps slow).

if anyone has any experience in dealing with this topic, id be interested to hear what they may be able to figure out, using this info as a stepping stone.

i read that some people found spell effects that were "un"capped at 30fps, while most are capped at 15. this glitch has made it so certain effects are completely uncapped (over 30fps).

if anyone has the know-how to look further into this, id love to hear what you come up with. if no one does, or wants to do it, some pointers to the right info and tools to really get down to the nitty-gritty would be appreciated and i will have a go myself.

look forward to hearing input from others.

ok, so this is something that I would personally love to see happen, so I thought I would chime in with some things that I noticed.

Ive been playing through 1.3 on the WotL version of the game. In my travels I have run into some non-frame-limited spell effects. Between these, the effects that are known to run at 30fps and some clever editing, perhaps it would be possible to speed up spell effects (to at least 30 across the board, if not proper speed for all).

I noticed when archers (or units with bows and bowguns) were using knight skills, I would sometimes get completely unrestricted spell effects. unrestricted meaning that they ran /faster/ than 30fps.

it seemed that the combination of the spell effect, the bow animation and the projectile animation caused the system to unload the hard framerate limit of 15 (or 30 in some cases?) fps. When the bow users would fire, the spell effect would begin and then play out very rapidly. generally the projectile animation would play during/afterward, and then the effects of the action would resolve.

i know this isnt all that much info, but if some dedicated individuals were willing to look into it, perhaps this could be a stepping stone?

im very interested in seeing this happen. if no one is able to do it, any pointers on accessing and editing the internals would be appreciated and i will dig into it myself for sure.
