Super Noob Help!

I just recently came across this site and i want to add sprites and make sprites and all that fun stuff but i dont even know where to begin. ive checked the guides but i'm stupid so they dont even make any sense to me. i would be most appreciative if someone would be so kind as to walk me through with what programs i need and where to get them. instructions on how they work so on and so forth.

you'll need an iso of the game- can be easily found in torrent form(how I got one)
some sort of graphics program- graphics gale, paint shop pro, etc
and CD mage
