Title: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: Barren on July 22, 2015, 05:36:15 pm
Starting today I am accepting teams. The tournament will start in a couple of weeks so start building teams! PM me your team and I will check to see if there are legal.

As voted by you, the rules of this Single Class Challenge Tournament is as follows:

No JP Cap. Go nuts with the JP spending!
2 copies of an ability are allowed. Just like your typical Arena rules
Only 1 copy of an equipment is allowed. This encourages variety in items that is normally not used in typical AI tournaments
Mimes are banned due to glitches that can cause the game to crash

Also in thanks to Mudvayne's suggestion, if you have picked up to three classes then the RNG will be picked 1 -100. 1 - 33 being your primary choice, 34 - 66 being your second choice and 67 - 100 being your third choice. When I put up a stream Saturday (due to the website being down) I will be hosting the random drawing. If you haven't picked up to three classes yet post them in the SCC picks topic.

The Deadline will be August 10 11:59 PM EST

If anyone has any questions you can post here. Thank you and good luck!

I'll wait until I know what I have before making a team, but that't not too far away.

Looking forward to it all

May not be able to see or join the stream so just PM me with the class I need to make. Please also edit your opening post to say what the rule with Mimes will be...thanks!

Me too I won't be able to join the stream :(

Somebody just tell me the number I got when they are drawn. Thanks so much!

I'll comb through the thread and compile everyone's choices, into a google doc. I'll then provide the link in the stream for live updates on team selection. We can also use that doc for bracket building, and tournament info. The living doc will be perfect for everyone who can't make the stream.

Also, remember gatebuster202, i will pick the class that is either least used or whatever is specifically asked of me by the hosts if you want to add that to the document (except mimes, preferrably as i really dont want an all mime team. Still unclear as to what rule is being used for mimes, though.)

I am surprised Thief is so unpopular. I have an undefeated SCC team using thieves (admittedly, it would have to be changed somewhat for the tournament but still...)
Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: Elmdork on July 23, 2015, 10:55:21 am
Umm I vote ban mime, I love them and all, but it's kind of broken in SCC.

Everyone knows thieves are a bit OP, which is why I want to showcase an oracle team specifically. Just want to show off the versatility of the class while making an overall decent team.

Thanks gatebuster for helping out with everything!

Ban Mimes. Sorry. The idea of having 1 per team with a forced secondary of your primary class isn't a terrible idea but they really do take away from the spirit of a "SCC" tournament.
Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: gatebuster202 on July 23, 2015, 12:06:08 pm
No one has selected Mime Mudvayne, though I have to totally agree, bad idea in general, and possibly quite poor synergy, given how glitchy they can be. (See the Damned signature.)

Silentkaster. Very sorry I missed you on the roster, I never seem to be fully awake when I am on Hacktics. (Not that their is a whole lot of difference. Anyway.) I added you to the list as a Random pick. We currently have a very nice spread, so likely Barren and I won't have to lock you into anything.

Sounds good. Just Let me know what class it should be if there's a tie for the bottom and I will do it. I kinda like having you guys "pick my fate" so to speak :P

Ha! If you like this just wait. Hopefully I can get a program that lets me do proper casting for our streams. (Christmas... Maybe.)

Also a quick tip for those who end up with monks. Since its a 1x equip only you should probably have someone with equip armor for extra HP and more status protection. Might not be effective offensively but can make good support units

Have classes already been assigned?  I am thinking of submitting a team, but I do not know which classes are being represented.

Not yet. The site was down last night and I was not able to post a link for the stream. I'm doing it tomorrow night so you still have time to pick your three classes Gaignun and have one be assigned to you
Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: Gaignun on July 24, 2015, 10:40:58 am
Sounds good.

Primary: Wizard
Secondaries: Time Mage, Summoner

I'll take wizards if they're not yet being represented.  Otherwise, throw me in the lottery.

@Gaignun I'll get you on the doc in just a minute. Anyone wanting to change, just let me know in the next 20 hours here or somewhere in the two SCC class/registration threads. I'll get the doc up to speed til 7:30 AM CST
Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: Gaignun on July 24, 2015, 03:04:28 pm
Are assignments going to be revealed before registration closes?  I'm flexible among my three choices, so if I end up sharing wizards with somebody when there are no time mages, I will gladly change to time mage.

@Coro My bad. Been a crazy day down here in Tejas. I'll correct it.

TrueLight, same offer for Dancers.

I'm excited to start working on my team. I have some pretty decent ideas for teams for whatever class I end up with of my 3. Unfortunately I don't think I'll make the stream tonight though.

Either way I think this is going to be a very fun tourney. I'm looking forward to it.

Do you have hosts Barren? I don't think I can volunteer this time to record matches. But in the future, in a pinch, if you need a few matches done for whatever reason I may be able to fill in at some point.

What does reroll mean? Am I locked into squire or samurai?
Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration

Samurai. It was rerolled because we had too many people using the same class

There were too many squires so we rolled to see who would be changed. and yours was picked. you got samurai

@ Coro, I'll see what the compatibility issues are for the program I intend to use. (Fraps) If I can find a way for you to run Fraps then you could record matches too.

@ All, I updated the original doc, Barren, if you could repaste the link in the OP, people could just double check it and updates there. We can also use the Doc to Consolidate all submitted teams as well.

All right.  TrueLight, Corosar, Jumza and I are representing the squishies.  Let's squish!

I observe that Chemists and Thieves are not represented. Does anyone who is currently sharing a class with another wish to switch to either of these classes?

TechSmith offers a 30-day free trial of its Camtasia software, which allows both screen capture and rudimentary video editing under a single application.  It's what I used to record matches in the previous tournament.

I'll be willing to switch to... Eh, Chemists if the spot must be filled.

Not a whole lot I can do, though. Chemists have poor equipment choices, and despite being capably tanky you don't win games or have interesting fights that way

But alas, for Arena science.

Wait, I got Mediators? Why did I put that one in there? Of all the three classes that was the one I didn't give much thought about, and that's what I got >_<

*Looks at what everyone got -- skiploom is the only Mediator player

Ah, I'm unique. This'll be fun!

What I should be worrying about now is how NOT to fall flat on the face with two losses in a row AGAIN.

Samurai will be fun. Maybe a little too easy though... I think a team of four samurai have the potetential to be pretty good assuming I build them correctly.
4 caster samurai could be interesting. Prolly will end up with 2 male and 2 female to keep it balanced. Two melee (or PA focused) and two mage (MA focused) units.

Lancers are going to be fun.  With only one source of max mp boosting available, my options for moves that require it are likely going to be very limited as a result.  We'll see what I can manage to come up with (That will probably find a way to crash & burn as I'm not likely to have a whole lot in the way of good status inflicting capabilities, heh).

@Anima I wonder, aside from the Statii oriented classes, how much people will be packing? (My geomancers are sorta odd balls in that they roulette those Statii.)

Anyway. Lancer will be a fun challenge with all that jumping. Just hope no one goes to sleep. ;)

Quick Update. I got arena fully working on my PC and Fraps, so recording is happening at GB's house! (No streaming though, I might break my AT&T.)

I'll do any and all exhibition requests. Depending on who I have with me at home will depend on commentary from me. (Some days it's gonna just be BMG and snipits in my annotations.) I'll try to do pregame analysis and item/ability breakdown in the comments as well as audio at the opening of the matches.

Edit: Note to Self, Never test against the Winner of the Last Season, first, it's demoralizing.

I'm not sure why you would give up.  Samurai have good damage options thanks to innate two hands.  And armor access makes them immune to a wide variety of statti.  They're like anti-mediators in that regard.  Even if you make one of your units a spellcaster with 40 brave they can do passable damage.  Still I will wish you good luck regardless of your decision.

My only worry is lack of speed and access to speed boosting gear. I still think they have a good chance to do well depending on your builds.

I think 4 archers will be very scary. Slightly less so with the 1x item rule to avoid a team full of 11 speed archers. They lack high MA but you can still use status via talk skill and time magic for haste/slow/stop decently well.

Looking forward to seeing what krypt puts together, auto-boss for picking oracle. (Not to mention you ARE an oracle, so imma stalk you for a bit to sate my unhealthy obsession)

Holy shit Barren got archer, we are all doomed. SCC archer is viable in standard exhibitions. Thief too.

SCC samurai is definitely a great pick, but far from easy. You'll need to take full advantage of everything you got in order to best all thief or (oddly) wizard teams. I definitely wanted to throw samurai into my picks (another unhealthy obsession) but I felt I was needed elsewhere.

I'll try to share some thoughts without spoiling too much. I'm going for classic oracle builds while (mostly) adhering to one item/ability rules. Also trying not to decimate JP caps because I want to see more people using oracles, and it's hard to showcase builds if it relies on impossible JP totals. Though definitely designed for victories, it comes secondary to showing off lesser used skills in (more or less) ideal situations. I hope my weird-ass ideas will inspire you all to make more weird-ass units.

Happy hunting and remember:

@Silentkaster: Equip polearm is great for a fast monk using javelin. Could also go Obelisk for +2 PA (? was is this one) and maybe do jumps or something. Equip heavy blade with the Ragnarock and the other knight sword I can't remember that add either protect or shell for a super tanky grand cross monk? Female monks with time mage work well. Equip range monk with a gun or bow with snipe for long range disables with arm/leg aim and long range breaks. Two swords monk with FS Bag for +2 PA and H Bag for +1 speed and then kagesougi? Or also snipe for double arm aim/breaks.... Lots of ideas man. You'll find something that works for you.

Are you trying to keep it to 2 male 2 female? 4 male? Or what?

Ninjitsu-ton, Shuriken, Jump, Gastrophetes, Houkoton, Asura, Chaos Blade.... You can probably go with both an FS and H bag monk, with two equip X monks. No idea what you'll do for a caster though. Asura and Masamune sounds like a plan though. Regen sounds like a must if you'll have weak revival abillities.
Still haven't started my Samurai team. Going to post back here later today with a finished team. Hard to know where I'm at without knowing where the competition is at.
Going with a caster team named "Four Swords"
Still haven't figured out how to make Murasame and Distribute work.
Even though I fully heal two units with distribute and Murasame, at 8 or 10 speed with haste,  it's not enough.

There are also equip armor monks that can be tanky if you build them right. Like low brave/faith with auto protect/shell and lots of status immunity. Of course their only means of offense would be status such as secret fist. Whatever secondary that is defensive or status can also compliment that high HP monks. Caster monks can be interesting as well like monks with equip armor and time magic. Demi 2 or Balance can be the tricks up their sleeves :P

For samurai I didn't personally care for 4 caster units. I don't think it will work [for me].
I had 2 male and 2 female and that worked pretty well for a while. I decided to change one of my male samurai for another female though simply because I couldn't find a good role for the second male samurai to fill. With the 1x item restriction and all.. I love it for versatility though because it causes everyone to think outside the box when building teams.
Still doing some tweaking on my team currently but when you're done send me what you have and I'll send you my most current and updated version so we can compare/contrast.

This was fun though! My ideas dried up surprisingly quickly. Hope they do ok. Curious to see how you built your team, Lakitu!

I think I have my bard crew pretty much set, just a matter of what counters I want to utilize. I have been attempting to work them through each class using the scc rules. They've done alright through squires/thieves/samurais/ninjas/lancers/priests, they've had trouble against mediators/archers. Currently they're in a never ending battle with a full paladin squad similar to Headhunters. I think paladins might end up taking it they're just out tanking/healing damage inflicted via bards and the paladins are starting box out individual bards .

I submitted my team to Barren, but if anyone, including Barren wants to run a video with them to see how they do and offer some pointers or tips on things I can improve or do better with...I wouldn't mind. We only have a few days so if nobody has time, I understand.

Silent, PM your comp and I'll put it up against my krew. I have time tomorrow and was planning on doing two or three vids before eventing tomorrow. It probably won't have commentary and just some FF7/Black Mages Music. But still, practice for me and vids for you!

I would offer to try, but my daytime internet is so unstable that I don't want to let you down.

Also why I haven't done more videos.

It'd take 6+ hours for a 10-minute video.

I would love to help barren but my budget does not allow for it... I can't use the Excel memcard maker as i can't get Excel... which means i am stuck using the FFtastic.... which is clunky as crap and i have no idea how to set colours in it.

as for recording.... i have no idea what program to even use that is affordable.... seeing as my current funds are about $2 dollars till the end of the month >~<

I would love any oppinions on what i should do to set up.. till then... i... am kinda tied up.

Hypercam 2 is what I use to record. It's free. Movie maker to edit. Also free.

You can also get excel for free man. You have the internet, use it to your advantage! They even offer free trials on the website for some period of time for the newest version.

My team is basically done for the tourney. Haven't tested it too much but Barren has ran two test matches for me. Killed Lancers and Squires without too much trouble. Not sure how they'll do overall but we'll see. I'm semi-confident considering everyone has to abide by the item restricting rule that gave me so much hassle.

I'm scared of Archers though. My blind vote is on whoever has 'em (Barren?).

Cam Studio is also free. As well as fraps. Tech Smith is what I use to record but getting the actual recording software is expensive.

But yea corosar getting Microsoft excel isn't hard at all. If you still want to help out hosting I can keep sending you the memory cards. I can talk to you on Skype later when I get out of work

Is it bannable to talk about pirating software in a mod board? I mean if it's just a program then there's no need to pay.

Lurk mode: Disengaged

I can't wait to see what ya'll put together. Again rooting for silentkaster as he became the underdog somehow, but if somebody can pull it off, it's you, man. Excited to see something other than an fs bag power sleeve monk have success. Obelisk is nice, chaos blade is good too, Or not relying on equip support could be the best course of action. Should still slap the chakra band on the fs/power sleeve monk IMHO. Too exciting.

I sincerely hope shintroy goes for a gatekeeper strategy, samurai is great for this and I find the idea very compelling. Has potential for my favourite team of the season, but maybe somebody else can make something stranger work better. Time will tell but I'm getting impatient. Sorry for voting against mime, I know you wanted to do something with it. I'll probably take a crack at a few mime teams for the regular season

Barren will kill us all, but andante might eat another bracket if you're not prepared. Epic face palm if I see you guys in round 1. Oh and TL too. TL OP, needs nerf.

CT5HOLY! Omfg please do some, I miss your commntaryyyyy! >____<
Hehe.. he's gonna blow somebody up with ct5 holies :3
I hope it's not me. D:

Well Krypt, it's us vs. the world. Tonight we dine in hell!
May you strike with all the might of the gods, and none of their sirenity.

Also for maps, should we do small, medium large in that order or the traditional small, large medium?

Team submitted.

I encountered a goofy glitch while testing my team: If a unit afflicted with Stop receives Quick through Life Song Last Song, the unit will get its turn even if it's killed before Stop wears off.  In my case, I watched an animated corpse retreat four tiles then drop dead.  I wonder if this glitch also exists in vanilla FFT.

Title: Re: FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
Post by: Mudvayne on August 12, 2015, 11:43:38 am
No offence but I doubt you'd make it past me in round 2 anyways since 2 of my units absorb earth and you have an all scholar team with earth dragon on 2 units. I also have other elements to get around your earth absorb but if your scholars cast earth dragon you'll be healing half of my team every time. Your only 2 non-earth based attacks are holy, and chiri.

Bad luck for you with your first two match ups, that's for sure. :P

Sorry Mudvayne for making you look bad. Oh well. RNG hasn't been kind to me. At least I took down the season 4 champ so I at least have that under my belt. Dunno how much longer my archers can go. It depends if I face squires or priests next
