News:

Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.

Completed Mods / Re: War of the Lions Tweak v2.52

Quote from: Tzepish on September 29, 2023, 03:01:55 pmIt won't be required after the next release :-)

Thank you for your patch, all the QOL are epic.
Do you plan on fixing the sounds to be on par with PSX?
And the biggest problem for me a native PSX player is the old English script of the PSP version is a very big headache, it would be fantastic if we could optionally switch to PSX script.

The Lion War / Re: Is lion war 2.0 vanilla difficulty?

Quote from: Nyzer on October 06, 2023, 09:31:29 pmYou are incorrect.

Units are generated with a lot of randomness involved, and there's nothing stopping the units in the Monastery battle from rolling Item equipped as their secondary with Potion learned.

The starting generics also don't generate with any jobs unlocked beyond Squire or Chemist in vanilla. Ever. They're hard set to only have Chemist Level 1, and standard unit generation would also give them Squire Level 1. You're probably used to seeing them have some of the physical and/or magical jobs unlocked when you can first get to the Formation screen because it happens after the Gariland battle, but in TLW, you can see them before. Because of the random nature of their starting JP, they can be at just about anywhere between 100-200 (IIRC) in either their Squire or Chemist jobs, meaning that one battle with six ally units on the field is quite likely to unlock jobs for most of them.
it's not just about using items, the enemy characters were doing completely different things from usual, and they appeared smarter or at least they had a much wider variety of abilities. In my many vanilla runs through the 1st battle I've never seen archers do anything besides charge, in the hack they were using items, charge and also melee attacks, and they were really harder to defeat. I will perhaps do more runs just in case it was a 1 in a 100 luck, but until then I am skeptical about the difficulty being vanilla.

The Lion War / Re: List of missing PSP features?

Quote from: Nyzer on October 06, 2023, 09:19:10 pmThe ones in blue are the changes included in TLWotL. The ones in red are the ones that aren't. The green lines are for changes that aren't exactly the same. Purple is just for anything I wasn't sure about.

Thanks I get it now. I guess the main problem is the missing job and only 20 char slots instead of 24 (moreover at the expanse of guest slots?)

This is going to be a tough choice because the PSP Tweak hack really adds a bunch of QOL such as being able to control guest characters, smart encounter system, level scaling options...

I guess I'm going to go for the PSX Lion War hack regardless since the old english thing is truly a deal breaker for me.

The Lion War / Re: List of missing PSP features?

thank you Nyzer for the effort but with all due respect I wanted a list of missing feature because it's going to be a big brainstorm to compare the list you posted above with the wiki list.

the reason why I asked in the first place is because I don't know if I should play PSP or PSX version. PSP has a a very decent hack called "War of the Lions Tweak" that adds a bunch of QOL features and fixes a bunch of PSP problems, however the sounds still suck and the Old English script gives me a headache :'(

So obviously the plus of the PSX hack would be better sounds, better script, but I'd like to know how much of PSP bonuses I'm going to miss.

The Lion War / List of missing PSP features?

Is there any comprehensive list of all the PSP stuff that was not added to this patch.

You can find here a list of all PSP changes:

Quote from: Akashachi on January 07, 2022, 08:45:01 pmThe basic experience is vanilla. The post-game Rendezvous are definitelly quite challenging and require certain strategies to be beaten. There is also a feature from the NG+ that slightly affects the difficulty, by adjusting enemy levels, but the impact is minimal to say the least.

I disagree, I've played the patch just a little and the difficulty is definitely not vanilla.

I have played through the first battle (outside church) and I've seen archer use potions which they never did before and the enemy managed to knock down 2 allies which they never did in vanilla, at most I'd lose 1 unit but most of the time no loss at all. In the second battle, your allies have much less jobs unlocked than in vanilla.

I agree they should have mentioned the increased difficulty in the readme, lot of players won't like this especially those who are new to the tactical genre.

PSX FFT Hacking / Re: Formula Hack v0.37

My 2cc as a professional software developer: don't give in to the temptation of rewriting the code from scratch. Not only will you spend half a year trying to get basic functionality back up, the result will have less features and more bugs than the existing code-base. A "clean start" may sound more enticing than doing the hard, thankless job of fixing the current code-base, but 9 times out of 10 it is the wrong decision.

Regarding Mac and Linux compatibility: make sure data structures and logic are separate from the UI and specialize the UI for each platform (WinForms for Windows, MonoMac for Mac, GTK# for Linux). If you are lucky, this will already be the case and adding new platforms will be easy. If you are unlucky, C# has good refactoring tools to take most of the pain away - and the total pain will be nothing like rewriting everything in C++.

Again, my 2cc. Good luck!
