:shock:

Uh.... woo boy.  Needs far more linearity, imo.  I actually made the mistake of drawing this out on paper, and I need to do this in 3-D and then MAYBE I won't run into massive line conflict.

Let's look at the Geomancer, for example.

The real reqs are:

Geomancer - 2 Squire, 2 Knight, 2 Oracle, 2 Archer, 3 Cantor, 2 Chemist, 2 Invoker 2 Monk.

By relation, that's more unlocking, job wise, than either Dancer or Bard in classic FFT, and far more difficult to comprehend.

What I suggest is a hex/triangular job tree.  I really like this design, though you may want to swap a few jobs around.  I did my best to keep them to their old reqs, but obviously some flex had to happen.

Tier 1:
Base

Teir 2:
Knight = 2 base
Invoker = 2 base
Archer = 2 base

Teir 3:
Cantor = 3 Base + 2 Invoker + 2 Knight
Traveler = 3 Base + 2 Archer + 2 Invoker
Monk = 3 Base + 2 Knight + 2 Archer

Teir 4:
Oracle = 3 Cantor + 3 Invoker
Chemist = 3 Invoker + 3 Traveler
Appraiser = 3 Traveler + 3 Archer
Gambler = 3 Archer + 3 Monk
Geomancer = 3 Monk + 3 Knight
Blue Mage = 3 Knight + 3 Cantor

Teir 5:
Summoner = 4 Cantor + 3 Oracle + 3 Blue Mage
Time Mage = 4 Invoker + 3 Oracle + 3 Chemist
Mediator = 4 Archer + 3 Appraiser + 3 Gambler
Dragoon = 4 Monk + 3 Geomancer + 3 Gambler

Teir 6:
Red Mage = 5 Oracle + 4 Summoner + 5 Time Mage + 7 Knight
Hussein = 5 Gambler  + 4 Dragoon + 4 Mediator + 7 Traveler

Obviously the magic classes will warrant some swapping because half of your red mage description was "not TM and not summoner", but I polarized it at the end between magic and physical stuff.

Edit: Similarly, you can make the RM a composite of Knight, Blue Mage, and Geomancer and the HESSAIN a composite of Traveler, Chemist, and Appraiser.  Though neither seem to really fit.

A simple start to prevent them from trumping other magic is to make their effect area lose the smart targetting.  It worked (too well) in FFTA imo.  Or, if they're something like the illusionist, that works too.  Though that conceptually is the same as Wiznaibus.

Plus, you can reduce the variability of the skillset.  Golem is too much of a mainstay to go, but things like carbunkle (maybe), fairy, silf, and lich can be effectively removed.  This basically leaves summon magic as a primary damage dealer with limited support through golem and moogle.  This reduces the only conflict to be with black magic.... but glancing at the wizard thread I think this'll be fine?

I'm going to assume weapon only, if not I'll expand it some (and have a creative field day).

Let's see... with those reqs its possible at about the same point relative to classic fft.  So we'll need an item or two from about that time, save a few extra for full-time endgame use, and then one or two of really rare ones for super-special use, all while hopefully grabbing one from each weapon type (minus bags, if I'm reading the other thread right!).

*opens up like 3 different documents*

16 weapon types?  Bleh, need room for R/S/M!  Good bye rods, carpet, flails, and xbow or longbow!

Also no clue on if some of these are possible, much less potential effects for them.

Scrying - Rune Blade - 3v3, MA*Y (high) damage, enemy-only.  (Beltha)
Ninja Vanish - Spell Edge - 3v3, ally-only add:transparancy (chap 4 start)
Prism - Rainbow staff - 3v3, enemy-only - MA * Y (moderate) - deals fire/ice/bolt damage to affected enemies. (Zirekile)
Shatter - Battle Axe - 3v3, allies and enemies, caster immune.  Shatter the axe, causing [(MA + PA) / 2] * Y (moderate) physical damage to everyone in the area. (Lenalia)
Divine Hand - Heaven's Cloud - Self-only.  Adds Haste, Faith, Berserk status. (mid chap 3)
Gust of Wind - Windslash Bow - 3v3, allies and enemies, caster immune.  MA * Y (low) damage. All hit units are knocked back a space and cancel charging.   (mid chap 3)
Battle Prowess - Battle Dictionary - 3v3, enemies only.  Affected enemies hit for 20% of their health.  User healed for amount dealt. (chap 2)
Discord - Bloody Strings - 3v3, enemies only.  Deals MA*Y (mid-high) damage, chance (25% each) to add poison, blind, death sentence, confusion. (mid 3)
Valhalla - Ragnorok - 3v3, allies only.  Inflicts Faith + MBarrier!
Skewer - Jav II - 3v3, enemies only.  PA * Y (HUGE).  Basically OHKO anything it touches.

All I got for now!

Edit:  More than just weapons!?  Whoop!  I'll post more thoughts for other stuff later then.

Quote from: "LastingDawn"It highly unfortunately has to be extremely specific.

Which is probably better, really, lest there be too much bleed-in from Ninja.

q2!  Weapons only or can we do others?  Shields, armor, accessory, etc

q3!  Are the job pre-reqs changing?  Just trying to get a good stance on timing (like how you can't buy katanas until chap 2)

can it be as broad as "draw out/consume sword" or does it have to be item-specific like "draw out/consume blood sword?"

Quote from: "Xeno3"actually you are entitled to one copy of any sort of material you own. more then that is illegal.

In some countries, it is legal for an individual to personally make backup copies of a game they own. Individuals may make backup copies for various reasons, perhaps as insurance against losing the game or as redundancy in the event that the original game's medium becomes unreadable. See the section on ROMs and Preservation.

However, in the U.S. it has been illegal since 1983 for a user to create their own backups of video game ROMs onto other cartridges. This was decided in the court case of Atari v. JS&A. JS&A manufactured a "game backup" device that allowed users to dump their Atari ROMs onto a blank cartridge. JS&A argued that the archival rule allowed for this. The court disagreed, noting that ROM media was not subject to the same volatility as magnetic media (for which the law was created). Thus, not being so relatively vulnerable, ROMs were not applicable under section 17 USC 117(a)(2).

Some games companies, such as Nintendo, print warnings inside their game manuals that they do not allow users to make backup or archival copies. Whether or not these warnings in this specific form can be considered valid contracts is legally questionable. For an overview of relevant issues, see user agreement (EULA), shrink wrap contract, clickwrap, Fair Use, Fair Dealing and DMCA.

c/p from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROM_image if you want to peruse their references.

Eh, its illegal.  So what? :-P

Quote from: "Xeno3"actually rom law is you can have any rom you "don't own" for 24 hours on your computer after that you have to remove it, but if yo uown the actual game you are entitled to the rom. And if you look at the rom law closly there is such a huge loop hole in it.

Afaik there's no such clause on the books, its more like an urban legend that just keeps spawning on all of the rom sites.  Yes, even if you own the cartridge.

Hell, its illegal to make personal copies of DRM stuff you bought.

like, if you have MAU it'll throw off the optimization numbers because your effective MA is higher.  Same with boost:element.

QuoteWhat is the right balance that will produce the most damage?

>_>

If (PA + 2) is less than MA, boost MA.
If (PA + 2) is more than MA, boost PA.

There's a couple odd points once you tack on multiplers and play with truncation, but in general that's the rule.  It's all relative to what your current stats are.  Wizards get more out of boosting PA, and Lancers get more out of boosting MA.

Because ANY boost in either stat will ultimately boost elemental, however, you're typically better off bloating that class' primary stat.

QuoteAll I can tell at the moment is that MA plays more of a part than PA in the formula.

Not really.  If you half the MA instead of the PA you'll usually come out with the same output, mathematically speaking.  However like I said there's truncation in play so its nice to have PA be even.

Edit:

May I suggest a modifier column?

I'd prefer this with a bump in percent and possibly a reduction of CTR.  MP cost is eh.

There's enough straight damage spells in the game already imo.  AoE %-based damage is a nice touch to allow the time mage some moderate magical offense without crossing over into already existing territory.

by "highest priority" do you mean innate 4 will trump innate 1 (e.g.), or is it an order within the reactions themselves?

And does this render the assigned reaction useless?

As far as general settings go, recall that when the first Altima was defeated Ivalice had steam-ish levels of technology and airships (I'm guessing FF6-ish) which really opens up a lot of doors from the basic medieval bit.  Plus, you can have moogles.  Yay moogles.

Addtionally you can probably throw in the real Ajora/Germonik/Golgarond bit if the timelines align just so.

QuoteWhat stones did he keep? I don't know yet, I'll have to research which ones came from where and how.

Almost positive all of em but Virgo, since that was in Hash/Vormav's possession until he killed himself and then died all Tellah-like.  Its enough of a blur that you can claim Ramza + co got them all or that that one was lost and then SUDDENLY REAPPEARED IN THE HANDS OF AN EVIL man.  It can really go either way, though its safe to assume Ramza + co have 12 total (even Serp, thanks Edi).  You can possibly bend the story a bit and say they each got handed back out to the company of the Holy Knights, Rafalak, etc.

Edit 2:

QuoteYou find out she's branded as a traitor for trying to kidnap the princess. As the story progresses, you find out that Ramza was able to keep hold of four Zodiac Stones from the explosion, but you're finding some of the others in other's possession. As you continue, you start to unravel the mystery of the stones, the origin of Ramza's ancestry, and the true goal of a new appearing villain. You also confront Delita within the story, as King of Ivalice.

Then its not really about his ancestor then, huh? :'(
