HP represents physical and magical absorption in one stat!  Less complicated this way.

There are some of table top RPGs that use this concept.

It's a damn good idea and it's a wonder people don't make use of it more often in games.

I would guess that it's because, as people have said, more HP is functionally the same as damage reduction. The idea I like is dividing up physical and magic damage reduction.

Yes because in a way, it also lowers recovery when you base it on max HP.
In most RPGs with the defense stat you can just get insane defense and use regen/heal like it was nothing.

Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

an idea for bosses though, instead of giving huge amount of hp and innate, why not use this?

Bigger numbers are more fun.  Hitting something with 100,000 HP for 999 just feels better than tinking something with 200 HP for 2.
