Help! / Formula Hacking help please!
April 16, 2010, 12:45:45 pm
So, I've been toying around with the idea of making my own patch for the game, but I've run into a snag.  I want to create a focus type skill as a Mage's answer to accumulate.  Would I need to hack an ability formula to be +MA_(Y)NS so that I can create this, or would I utilize the "055 Magic Song" effect in conjunction with a 100% formula?

To be honest, I would prefer a formula hack, as that would allow me the ability to alter the Y variable (and as a lesson on formula hacking).  If anyone could help me with that, I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

EDIT: I guess the only way to achieve the effect that I want right now is to alter the Magic Song ability, since the effect is just the graphic.

The Lounge / Re: [Fangame] Megaman Powered Down

Quint is an evil version of Mega Man from the future--Dr. Wily brought him back in time (I think) to battle against the current Mega Man.  He appeared in one of the Gameboy games.

If you want ePSXe 1.7, let me know.  I've got it on my cpu.

My favorite RPGs are Final Fantasy I, IV, VI, Tactics Ogre, Disgaea 3, and Chrono Trigger.  I'll also add that I enjoy the Fire Emblem series even though it is very light on RPG elements.

To me, what makes a great RPG is optional content (quests, equipment, characters, etc.), the ability to customize your party, alternate endings, and a great cast of characters.  I also love being able to explore the world, as it reinforces the concept that you are part of the world.

This also makes me think about what I haven'y enjoyed in the latest Final Fantasy games.  In FFX there was really no exploration, the characters were boring (to me), and much like VIII & IX, there was the annoying and tacked-on romance.  FFXII played itself, and I really didn't like the characters all that much (Vaan, why are you here on this quest?  Balthier, shut up about being the leading man, you sound like you've escaped from the mental ward  ).

EDIT: I'll concede that I enjoyed the gambit system to an extent, however, I personally feel that it is unbalanced--making the game too easy when used, and making combat a chore when not used.  After a short time playing the game I had been able to set up a gambit system where I was able to wipe out any enemy on the map without having to be in the same room as my console--and that isn't an exaggeration.

Old Project Ideas / Re: FFT: New Class Edition

I like the split between Black/White Mage and the more powerful Wizard counterpart.  One question, how do you plan on differentiating the weaker class from the stronger one, aesthetically speaking?

Spriting / Re: First try of a Wolf Knight

I think the sprite looks good, although the boots seem strange from behind...kinda like he's on his tippy-toes.
