Round 3. I am so so lucky that Dragon spirit went off. With everyone's brave being at 40 all the reaction skills are not gonna be perfectly common. If i did put brave up to 70 sure i would get more reactions.. but i would not have survived that crossbow shot. GG alfa that was a good match. I am sorry your team had to be the first one to have to go against that. i think i am starting to get a grasp of 1.4 though.

I think i may add that Bio suggestion. With the fact MA is constantly increasing on my team it would not need Cure 3 on that scholar. Originally i wanted to put raise.. but with the idea of needing to oil. yea i think i am gonna go with that. I think i figured it out with my team. Large maps work fine because it gives time for the bard to charge up while laying hits on the enemy. while small maps are too clustered to avoid the bahamuts. I think only medium maps are gonna be a bit of a pain with this team.

Edit: just went to check the team... i would have to drop a spell to give the scholar Bio. as it stands decreasing Cure 3 to cure 2 only gives 50 jp. and the scholar is capped at 3000. i am short 50 at the moment. and the rest of the skills are vital to the build. dang. only thing i can think of is switching out dragon spirit. but i am afraid that it may mess up with the backup plan of it going off.


I think i need a nap still. i have not slept enough today and just happened to see a vid was available when i got back from a small errand. when i get back. i think i am gonna rebuild my rock dropping team. I need at least three teams for variety sakes. and i rather my thunderbolt and dragons team not be the only thing i have active at this time.

also congrats on the new laptop. it seems to be doing really well!~


Oh no need to apologize! My teams are meant to be tested on! Team: Xcom needs to be fixed which is all! I need all my teams to be tested eventually and I'm glad you're finding some success in Arena! I learn a lot from my losses, especially with my teams that are fun or under optimized.

Damn that Distribute/MA build up was totally awesome and badass! I'm glad to see you got some mileage out of your team! I was even surprised to win Round 2. I definitely have to change how XCom operates, I'll probably move it into a WiP state until I feel like it's actually done!

Oh yeah Round 3, that clutch Dragon Spirit was so awesome! As soon as I saw it go off,  was like.. "uh oh" Sometimes you just have to pray to the RNGeezus and hope that you get exactly what you need. :) Either way GGWP!

Sighs why do i bother trying....



So a couple of things I've noticed. I 100% think that you had the right idea with status protection but I think you over thought your team a bit. If you don't mind I'd like to try and give you some tips or at least my two cents. But this is just my opinion, none of it is set in stone as I'm still pretty new to arena myself and make mistakes with my units all the time.

First and foremost you went up against, two units who specific jobs were to nuke with Holy and D.Holy. With that being said Myu's team punishes people with low brave units so try and keep that in mind when watching the match. And he has a holy nuker very similar to mine. (Like literally almost move for move xD)

Your first unit, the wizard. I personally think the unit did her job. She casted powerful black magic constantly and ultimately did what she was supposed to do. I think overall this is your best unit. Now I understand your reasoning for Magic Ring however, despite charm being a dangerous status, don't act (arm aim, paralyze, blackmail, etc.) are far more common status and will prevent your unit from being able to cast spells and essentially do its job. :)

I also understand caution! Caution is a great move but it doesn't actually boost your evasion any. Considering you had a Magic Ring and not something like a mantle your lack of evasion didn't compliment caution. It seems like you built your Wizard to be a glass cannon and then just put evasion just cause you had JP xD. Caution would have been better suited for a caster with evasion or a shield and/or mantle. If you had the JP I would've recommended the following if you were worried about defense for this unit:


  • Projectile Guard
    MP Switch
    Auto Potion
    Damage Split
    Hp Restore
    Abandon (With a Mantle at least)




Also the first unit also had summon magic for moogle, fairy and carbunkle. I understand you wanted to branch out but I think there may have been better choices. White Magic for Raise and Cure 4 possibly? You weren't walking around with Piety, MA Up or Pilgrimage so maybe Time Magic or YY.Magic for status effect may have also been good. With the unit already having MP-Up, it didn't necessarily need carbunkle.

Barren once said if you have a unit who's job is damage dealing, giving it support moves may backfire cause the unit will have too many options and not do what you want it to do.. It's just something to think about. :)

Your 2nd Unit: I totally understand why you went the berserk route with attack up. In fact, his build is quite similar to a Blood Kage build awhile back. However, being so afraid of charm + steal I think gave you some missed opportunity here. This unit was supposed to walk in and deal some real damage. However only hitting for 99-140ish is not good for a melee unit. Considering how particular a melee unit has to be in terms of damage, move, status protection, speed and fitting into your overall team, they usually need to sacrifice something in order to be effective.

However damage is something you want a berserk unit to do above all else. And I think you would've gotten more bang for your buck with Attack Up/Warpath or Two hands/Warpath, etc. PA Save as well possible just to just pour even more damage on the table.

If the unit was able to drop the Geomancer or deal more damage to the Time Mage, you definitely would've been in better shape. You did have the necessary Darkness protection which is good! But I do think Escutcheon II may have been a better option just for some overall magic and physical defense. The Dragon Spirit to try and grab a reraise so you didn't have to worry about the unit being raised was an interestting thought process but if you had the shield it could've potentially taken less damage by having more evasion.

DISCLAIMER: I am really bad at making melee units so I am not one to talk extensively about them xD

So you were making a WM/Time Mage unit which is part of the "Meta" right now. However, I think given your overall want to have a unit that reduces the enemy, you should've just had a unit who spams holy with the ability to hold a shield.

A Geomancer could've sufficed for example or even a WM Squire or the usual meta with a Time Mage with White Magic which seems to be all the rage. If you were looking for Time Magic just to provide some disruption I think that your spells were on point but I don't think you should have Both Holy and TM abilities. The unit may not do what you wanted to do.

Cure 2-3 are very strong options but considering that you want the unit to use its other abilities, maybe just Cure 4 would've been a better pick just so it could have used a quick and powerful cure and continued with its actions.

Outside of that, you gave the Wizard summon magic, you could've also made this unit into a Summoner with WM (since you wanted to try out books) and grabbed the Necronomicon for book hits, possible undead and then follow up with a raise 2 for some instant KO's. Just some combos to think about!

I think that this Monk is build really good! I may have went with Earth slash instead of repeating fist with some earth elemental but that's just semantics. I think the Steal Heart is a nice touch and it definitely worked on Myu's units! However, it didn't mesh well with your berserk unit who kept attacking the closest units knocking them immediately out of charm.

In addition the attacks, as I mentioned before didn't pack that much of a punch. (Granted all of Myu's units have low brave as well so it was countering your physical attacks) However I do think you had an overall good idea here. You could've also went Gil Toss, Steal Heart and accessory. Given that Steal weapon has such a low chance of success.

Again those are just my opinions so they aren't some super pro analysis and I'm definitely not the best in Arena. But I want you to know that your thought process was sound and that you aren't doing anything wrong. Just some tweaking here and there to bring it up to competitive levels!


Also keep in mind all of myu's units are casters. Time Mage, Geo, Wizard and Spellgun archer. With their low brave and optimized spell damage it wasn't a direct counter but the team had counter measures to your team. Also outside of the black mage who's job was to deal damage, the ability to resurrect was limited in terms of how much the units actually healed. Raise 1, Revive and even Fairy don't compare to Raise 2's full heal.

And despite your units' spells (in the 2nd match) being able to go off before Myu's, they just didn't hit hard enough to kill some of his more dangerous units outside of the archer.

Also you shouldn't get down over the loss, Myu's team was using some of the most strongest abilities in the game right now and you were using a berserk unit and a monster dict user which are some unpopular unit setups and you weren't optimizing for damage and status protection. There was nothing wrong with your team just a matter of clashing strategies. I'm pretty sure you'll do fine later in the tournament!

But seriously that clutch pray faith. They really exploited the wizard's reflect didn't they. Things just keep getting more interesting with each match.

Man was that second match weird, but I'm glad to see our team was highly effective. We didn't have tons of big damage like a holy unit or a dark holy unit but to see the units working effectively was quite nice.

I have to say it seemed like this was an almost counter pick. The Paladin unit kept blocking Chiri, The Oracles for the most part avoided the don't acts. I was surprised to see chiri be so effective against Lich over and over again but I guess that's Draw Out For ya!

I'm glad to see our Time Mage (Which I'd go as far as to say was our lichpin) Slow 2 constantly, followed by Stop and comets really laid down the pressure. I think in another scenario we would lose out of 2/3 just simply because of the unit choices. It really felt like a counter to our team.

Really? I've never ran into that issue with the stone gun and romanda gun. Usually if I give them Warpath/Ignore Height they always find the most operative spot to shoot and grab hits with berserk.

I've attempted to do berserk with a few weapons and I'd definitely have to agree with Heroe. Long bow/Guns are usually very good with Berserk so you don't have to deal with the height issues and can get some more bang for your buck in terms of damage. :)

Or you can keep the gastrafitis, remove the berserk and go Attack up/Warpath and just put a bit more healing on the team as well if you didn't want to change the weapon. ^_^

This is actually exactly what I said and thought, but apparently there are much better options now. Regardess I also thought that maybe a 5th bag could be added that just didn't replace the old ones and/or give the bags newer abilities to shine.

Hello all! I'm relatively new here. So maybe I can be wrong about some of this but I am a fan of giving versatility and options to a player instead of locking everyone into a meta or a winning formula. I like everything to have a purpose or be semi-viable. With that being said I'll get on with it  xD

Kuro(WKW), DW and myself were talking today about some ideas theory crafting back and forth and here were somethings we spoke on. (Forgive me if these have already been suggested)

1st.
We were talking about the Bags as a whole. So far every bag had an option or a way to be used except the C Bag.

One of the options we discussed was making it a 0 DMG item. This way the A.I. uses it as an alternative to get rid of charm/sleep. I followed up with that idea saying it is possible to give the item a +1Move/Jump like the Tactician Blade to give the item a bit more of a kit.

I personally see Bags as an immediate way to give a unit some utility when all other options are exhausted. Whether it be PA for monks, Speed for support classes that could use it or MA for casters, I thought giving any bag a movement/jump utility would be beneficial.

We all agreed Silk Robe could use a little bit of love since it's the only robe that is just kind of meh over all. We all also agreed that maybe giving the Silk robe (since it's wearable by every caster class) a Faith/Innocent immunity. Especially if Gokuu Rod is going to stay the same and Atheist is getting regulated, we thought this would be a great addition because of the lack of anti-innocent support.

I am a bit biased in this endeavor but I feel that the Lancer(dragoon) is just subpar. I even asked WKW what they do and he said they were pretty much Item Bots lol. I'd like to see them used more often and do what they should be doing... Jumping, and doing it without sacrificing so much JP. Because at the moment, even if you sacrifice every reaction/movement.support you still wouldn't be able to complete their job tree.

Of course, they don't need their entire job tree but even Chemists with an extensive list of abilities don't have to sacrifice everything just simply to use their skills. So after talking about it with WKW he offered the idea of making the Level/Vert Jump2's free or 0JP like the Archer's Jump+1. Which consequently would lower the JP of everything else.

I think that would give Lancer's the ability to be used again without such a hefty JP tax.

I also think that they should have ignore height innate.. but that's a different discussion for another time.

Right now Paladins in a big way are sponges for damage. They walk forward and they get stomped on by spells, ranged and more often than not speed. Of course, Genji Armor, swift plate, Sprint shoes, etc. can give them the speed that they lack but it is still moot when they are immediately put into a Revival loop. (Of course I'm speaking from just a competitive standpoint)

So my personal suggestion was a small boost to some of the other armor options HP wise. Right now the max is 495 on a Male/Paladin with the highest armors. Let me be very clear, that does not need to change. I just feel if we have silk robes that have 115 HP. Then Gold/Diamond Armor should at least be 120+ minimum. They are heavy armors for a reason and if Paladins are going to be slow then they need more options defensively when they finally do get a chance to move.

I'd even go so far as to give armors a boost in EV because that is the entire point of armors. Not to just walk forward and get rained on by Hawk's eye, Status aliments and Draw Out. But to have protection, to be the tank that walks forward and ultimately, live.

Especially with haste being such a big factor in most teams I don't think that this would be a massive change. On that same coin, helmets could also receive a bit of love given the similar reasons as above.

Both WKW and DW, would like to see the mythril helm removed IF the silk robe obtains faith/innocent immunity. They feel there are too many helmets and slimming the list down would be a good idea. Given that any class that can wear helmets can wear robes too.

I am against the idea because I feel that any class that wears helmets is wearing them for the HP and/or for a reason and not may not necessarily be a caster unit. I feel that an alternative should be found for the Mythril helm only because Mythril in terms of fantasy is such a commonplace item and having a mythril armor, mythril shield and mythril weapons seems a bit off without a mythril helmet.

I do not have a suggestion for an alternative for the mythril helm, but I don't think outright removing our options is the best idea.

It is purely possible to just start streaming on twitch and see if it garners popularity. The more exposure we give this the better it'd be for the scene.

And being a mod doesn't necessarily exclude it from anything, I mean DoTA started out as a warcraft mod before anything else. It's the lack of player interaction that would exclude it from the competitive scene.

It's like making a basketball team of four or (if anyone's played it) Xcom Team and not being able to do anything but make a strategy for the AI to follow, sadly there will always be a winning formula until it gets patched. Where as other games don't necessarily have such issues simply cause of player interaction.

(I know my two cents doesn't count for much since I'm relatively new, just throwing it out there xD)

Howdy all! I'm the Chemist. My favorite class in FFT. I've actually lurked here on and off for several months and sadly I am terrible with coding and some of the awesome stuff they do here with hacking FFT, but I'm not so bad when it comes to tactics.

(Despite the fact that I know Chemist isn't probably a top class in competitive play xD)

But being inspried by the FFT, Arena, Journey of the Five and others. I would really like to get back into this kind of stuff and.. well yeah!
