Title: Metal Gear Tactics
Post by: McCracker1 on May 18, 2008, 11:28:58 pm
so with my recently completed Snake sprite thanks to Cheetah and Vanya I was thinking about doing something much grander than just plugging him in somewhere so I'm taking suggestions for what may end up being a cool yet odd patch.

i'd play it, on one condition: you also make the cyborg ninja

you've got a deal. I gotta know if its possible to change what characters say in battle and cutscenes because I would have to put snake in the scene where the iron giant shows up and have snake freak out that it's a metal gear.

Not sure if you can edit cut-scene texts, but I'm sure of it ... otherwise, you can replace sprites in the cut-scenes. Only problem is that you have to find the files with the cut-scene sprites in it ... it's basically a collection of pieces of sprites for special animinations such as turning your head, looking up at the sky, etc. I think there's something like 'misc. sprites' or something similar in Custom Sprites.

Actually, we do know where the event sprites are located! They're in this file: EVTCHR.BIN! All the frames in this file take their palette from the corresponding .SPR file of the character they represent.

Basically I'm just taking suggestions at this point. I also haven't decided on snakes skillset.

if you are changing the text, you have to make snake repeat every statement in question form.

ie.  "Snake theres a female in the cell next to you"

"A female?!"

"Yes snake.  Stop restating the statement as a question"

From the few times I messed with the EVTCHR.BIN I thought all the palettes for the sprites were contained within EVTCHR.BIN. Though now that I think about it some screenshots people posted might have shown them using the SPR's palette hmmm. Well either way there are some characters that all their animations in EVTCHR.BIN (like Aerith).

I got a little too fanboyish yesterday and worked more on your Solid Snake sprite. Take a look at the topic in the Custom sprite section, you should find some useful stuff.

Something like self-transparent is a must.
And the snipings of Mustadio would make sense.
And equipping either knives or guns.
 Dash/Yell/Basic Squire abilities seem fit.

As for if you plan on doing Otacon, he should be a chemist-like person.
Maryl would basically be a SNAKE_W if there was such a file.

Seems like you could mostly just have attacks for Snake relating to his different weapons.

Tranq Gun does no damage but a high chance of causing sleep.
Sniper Rifle: Can only shoot straight, but for whole length of the screen.
CQC: Melee attack that has a chance of stun/confuse/ or whatever it is. Obviously much higher success rate from behind.

For enemies they could have guns and then then throw ability but limited to bombs and then change them to gernades.

I have though of a few rather amusing skills for Meryl.

Squicky/Squishy Walk: Charms all surrounding male enemies (like from MGS where Snake recogniser her from her different walk). This would be even more hilarious if it had a higher hit percentage for enemies she had her back too.
Reveal: A zero range attack that only works if Meryl is face to face with the enemy, causes Invite Status. The best part of this is that you could assign the attack the sing animation and then change it up a bit so it "fit" better.

A little perverted obviously, but I was trying to tap into the Kojima sense of humor.

I don't know how committed you are to doing this but I am finding myself rather interested in the idea.

Throw Girly Magazine
CT=0 and slow (100% on males)

oh, if you could put prinygod's suggestion in there I would be so happy. I just love doing that on MGS2. Walking through Strut A as Raiden and see an enemy up ahead. Throw pron on ground, knock on wall to get the guards attention, hide, watch hilarity ensue.

Snake Ability:
Second-hand Smoke - Similar to Spin Punch, but deals poison on surrounding enemies and no initial damage. =P

you should make jobs for snake only(so he can get half on generic jobs and rest for enemys, expect for meryl and Otacon they get their own jobs.
