Okay so as some know im working alone on a patch. slowly but surely.

It's not a complete story change, however, I have done a few "things" to warp the story. Adding in some new characters and new jobs and abilities as well. A real goal of mine is to make the game significantly more difficult weather you have special units or not.

Ideas are always welcome.

I'm currently still working on chapter 1. The only big things that happen differently are that Algus decides to stay at Igros after you rescue him, and Delita invites Teta to come along with the group to Dorter. Along the way The Aquarius stone is found, yes this early, but nothing real obvious happens yet pertaining to lucavi. Miluda also escapes from the original fate given to her by square, she may be stubborn but shell see the light eventually eh...

Money: Gained money during battle will be cut down to 1/4 also the resale value of items will also be reduced to 1/4 the norm instead of 1/2 price.

Ramza's skills besides the normal 4 are blue magic and rare. Can you get them all? we shall see.

Izlude - Knight Blade: Mighty Sword skills that dont miss monsters
(With orlandu out of the picture and the Mighty Sword formula fixed hopefully, theres absolutely no problem with him joining up after the point that Orlandu normally would have already been there. I am debating his skillset because I would like to have skills similar to sword skills, for the Spear/Pole only weapons.

Miang - Terror Knight: Terror Blade, Uses the Fear skills that the zodiac monsters use, but at MP cost, and they also do physical damage.

Balmafula- Arch Witch: She will join you instead of Orlandu and has a great skillset.

Boco: Boco will not breed this time and will have more skills, however i dont have a way to make him mountable as of yet.

Rad - Dark Knight: Rad becomes a full fledged Dark Knight later in the game. Has 4 skills instead of just 2.

Miluda - Cross Knight: This bitch is bad, will she really let go of her stubborn streak long enough to team up with Ramza? hmmm i havent decided yet.

Alicia - Mystic Knight: she will either have elemental sword skills, or in the event that I am able to create spear only skills for izlude, she will become the Divine Knight of the group.

Lavian - Flame Seer: The ultimate fire magic user who has access to the 4 normal fire spells as well as an Oil inducing skill, Melt, Incinerate, and Omegaflare (flare2)

Deis - ?????: She has access to the Four ultimate elemental spells Melt, Tornado, Quake, Flood and might also come with lesser water, wind and earth spells if i don't have another job that uses them.

Zalbag - Arch Knight: His skillks now have no CT and he also has one additional skill "Shock!" from beowulf's original set

Aliste - Templar: Templars are different in this game, they will have some custom sword skills but the "Magic Sword" set based off of oracle skills is no more. Aliste is not ill in this, Beowulf died at his hands, Reis is pissed! well youll see...

Larg - Duke: His job indicates that of the nobility, however his abilities reflect aquired skills gained after an assassination attempt with poison.

Every normal monster will have a level 4 version maybe even level 5 for some. they will not be recruitable.

Every special job will have a generic version. (will i use all of them? probably not, however, i promise you the that you dont want to walk right in to the middle of the Assassin clans just to name an example.

Assassins: I removed Ultima from their set it doesnt really seem to make sense there. Instead they will have a poison skill that inflicts poison or doom at a 100% chance

i used the undead oracle, when set as a monster its assigned to be a chocobo.

actually i have never tested it, but someone had told me after i told them how to make a non breeding choco that they couldnt mount it.

anyway, I'm also planning to make it so your characters actually have use of items like antidote, soft, echo grass etc making common enemies use skills all the time. Black goblins now cast poison, (non charge). im thinking of giving most monsters at least one spell

yeah she has a much bigger role in the story. and algus barely has any.

ill probably change the name teta to tietra as well even tho i dont like most of the psp translation i find this one okay. because teta means nipple in something like spanish or whatever... and its just weird.

You'll have to find a way to flag that special character slot as "Chocobo" but that problem is akin to the "I am a Mime" flag, so we may not figure out how to fix that anytime soon.

Then again, perhaps you already knew that.

haha well i found that out the hard way when i tried to google pictures of "teta".

well anyway. unlike goody 2 shoes alma who was busy studying how to cast a Mbarriers, tietra spent her time learning sorcery. and "wish" is certainly not included there.

it isn't such a big deal to me that boco cant be ridden, the only reason id wanna find out how to make him mountable is for everyone else :P so i havent tried very hard to figure that one out.

i have no idea, but her skillset didnt even have the standard RSM. maybe by giving her Cure and Wish they were trying to say she was a low class version of a Cleric? i really have no idea. just as it makes no sense to me that her sprite was not complete when it was in a battle, while charcters that wouldnt have had any chance of ever appearing in a fight (like goltana and larg) are 100% complete.

She's not the only big twist in the storyline tho.

i might end up using blansh and bolmna as well since they have sprites now. where id fit them in tho who knows. I guess if i decide to do away with "mediator" as a job, then characters like that could have talk skills... i mean.. that IS what they do right.

also i found a way to make EVERY skill that Ramza has special into blue magic. its easy for the ones that can target others, like "Yell" but for "scream" i had to get creative since it can only target self. if you Make a weapon randomly cast it, it will hit the target and not the weapon user... SO im thinking i can make a dupe of a weapon that randomly casts it. this will give Ramza 1 and only 1 battle to get this skill.

You'll have to be careful in my patch and keep an eye out for anyone that uses his skills. Ultima is not the only skill that can be missed. Everything besides the standard squire skills can only be learned in rare occasions. And btw assassins don't have ultima.

alright new boss added Dycedarg's Elder Brother. when you encounter him u better be prepared thats all ive gotta say.

what do u mean? that IS the battle you fight him at, he steals capricorn from dycedarg and after you defeat him he becomes adramelk. thats why im making him a capricorn like dycedarg.

Dycedarg is a guest there. someone has to get sent to hell afterall since it wont be zalbag.

very simple, duplicate skillsets or fake skillsets used only with ENTD editor

(this is why wiegraf only uses lightning stab in riovannes theres a skillset with only that one skill in it but its skillset name and description are identical to the normal holy sword skillset.)

you could also try to crush his PA with your newest party member Zalbag's Power ruin but DEB also has ramza's "Fury" skill which raises pa + 2

she can use Melt, Quake, Tornado, and Flood
has a very high mp gain more than her hp.

sorceror is overused already, so not that.

I might make the 3 other elemental magic users since Lavian is the ultimate fire magic user. i was also considering Water Seer for Deis.

any suggestions? :D

if i decide to make her a Water Seer to match Lavian's Flame Seer job...
then i COULD create earth and wind seers as well... what say you...?

and sweet jesus i forgot about my Berserker... whom i am not going to actually be a "berserker" anymore but have axe skills. i have to get a name for him as well.

okay i've been debating it for a while but im not afraid of spoiling the story twists.

should I:

A) Make Agrias remain a playable character

B) Make Agrias get abducted and Ovelia escapes to join you instead. then it is revealed by vormav to the newly captured Agrias that she is the true princess and they need her to act as such.

Choice B would rezult In the need for a new holy knight to fill the gap, however, you would also have Ovelia and her MBarrier at your disposal. (i would remove the innate def/mdef up if she joins)

For the remix I really like the idea of Option B, and maybe split Alicia to go with them and have Lavian stay on as they holy knight for the party.  This would require new sprites of course but that's what we do here.

im using the same sprites that i originally designed to fit those three characters.

Alicia will have the Misty sprite

Lavian will look like the Jenna sprite

Rad will have the hatless theif sprite with a red costume instead of green.

I had intended to make the trio adventure on their own for most of the game, appearing as guests a few times. allthough at some point i wanted to split them up so you could get Rad the dark knight before you get the other two.


I guess since you dont get agrias in choice B, i could make Alicia your Holy Knight. But lavian im still contemplating what class she will be.
If i make her a Flame Seer then ill throw an imbalance into the game because there wont be space to put a character for the other 3 major elements.

So i guess it might make sense for Alicia to be an apprentice holy knight since rad is an apprentice dark knight. and the first time you see their trio again they will have some of their skills learned unlike the intro which i made them unable to use anything but attack and a random secondary.

Well with LD and your votes on it sounds like choice B will be more likely.
ive gotta get more feedback on things like alicia and lavians jobs. alicia does sound like the best choice for the replacement holy knight. (this means that the only special characters youll have at your disposal for chapter2 are mustadeo and ovelia. tho having mbarrier will be a great asset.

Yes Mbarrier will make up for the loss of lighting stab greatly but i would tone it down a bit like remove haste from it or make it worth more MP to cast and maybe give Ovelia some custom skills.

Exactly that's why it needs to be toned down to avoid giving the player a huge advantage cause it is guaranteed to hit.

I think MBarrier is faith based and can miss

the strong part about it is the massive buffing it gives to any individual unit which covers any possible weaknesses it might have (Defense, HP, Speed)

id rather not destroy MBarrier. However i might duplicate the spell and make the duplicate either cost more mp or have a longer CT.

yes i do plan to give her at least 2 more skills, what? well just like i gave to alma, i had created a version of Arise, called 'Resurrection", which has a 100% chance of success if the unit isn't immune. it looks like scorpio revive.

as for another skill? well i might give her wish as well since she and alma were friends alma could have taught it to her.

on a side note for wish, I also could make it so that ramza's wish is swapped out for a blue magic version, identical, in chapter two. this wouldnt look buggy because it will be in the same slot that he already has wish from chapter 1 learned in.  upon using it on ovelia she could learn it that way as well as mini ultima. and there u have it she pretty much has alma's skillset except you can have her. only difference is, alma will have the grand ultima and ovelia will have mini.

another option would be to simply make Ovelia join much later. leaving you with only ramza and mustadeo for most of chapter 3.

either way she will NOT have innate defense up and magic defense up, even at the falls, so that fight will already be harder because ai doesnt go after ppl with def up as priority over someone who doesnt have it.

Maybe you could set it so she doesn't learn Mbarrier as part of your team till around the middle of chapter 3 or beginning of chapter 4, but i think she should join around Lionel for a bit more of a consistent story. Another way would be to let her go with Agrias and join Ramza after she finds out that Agrias is actually the princess, because of a death threat from Goltana or something like that.

hmmm.... it would be a good idea to make it so she isnt with you when you meet alma.... i would have to create an alternate scene just for her being there. I think it would be harder for her to escape if both her and agrias got caught....  perhaps i could use the scene to make your first encoutner with the trio Alicia, Lavian and Rad as guests... then they inform you that the "princess" is at the execution site. none of them join up there and you go on your way with only ramza, mustadeo and boco as specials.

(boco is quite useful as he can use all 5 chocobo skills and i might create a special skill thats like a phoenix down that way he can use skills that are like the two most basic and useful chemist skills Choco Cure and Phoenix Wing [debating this])

when you get to the execution site you of course find out that its not really ovelia. you continue on your way as normal thru to the end of chapter 2. (ramza, at this point, is completely in the dark about what has happened and that in truth, Agrias is the true princess and that Ovelia had escaped on her own and her whearabouts are unknown. chapter 3 unfolds normally till alma gets abducted (by meliadoul)

at the river its too early to get Dark Knight rad and Alicia is the leader of the trio so i do not want her joining then.... but i COULD make Lavian join.

still what kind of job should i give her? she is a magician type... and i do NOT need any more swordsman types. should i stick with having four characters each with one of the 4 pure elements, fire , water, air, earth.
id rather have Deis have the 4 ultimate spells instead. and the lvl 4 black mage spells match the damage potential of those 4 spells as well.

Another important storyline thing ive been contemplating. Ft. Zeakden.

Originally i had thought to make Tietra not be there at all and have a common squire shoot algus, and just a Knight with some sort of general title giving the order. But now i think i might make Tietra be there and the one who shoots algus + you fight her and then she escapes. The reason why? because i don't think there is quite enough drive for Delita to undergo his changes for chaptert 2 and on. But with such a drastic change to his sister and the murder of Algus who in this game is more of an innocent semi-noble that delita can relate to on some level, it might have a better effect on the story. well what say you?

That fight, btw, would be quite interesting too. Not only would Tietra be eqipped with a crossbow, she would have even more of her sorcery at her disposal. And set to attack Delita, he would be going down pretty fast.

I just thought up a new idea too....
Just after meeting delita at the port of warjilis it would be great to create a battle on the town map of warjilis. here i could make you meet up with guest Alicia and Rad who tell you that they were planning on meeting up with Ovelia and Agrias. Lavian had gone ahead, but as you find out in the next battle she narrowly escapes with information that ovelia meeting with the cardinal was a trap. (they also are in the dark at this point about agrias being the actual princess) the battle at warjilis would simply be a few hired thugs sent to clean up any loose ends while the other force is after lavian. after the warjilis battle they would split from your group to look for lavian on their own while ramza ends up being the one who finds her by the B valley.

not to make you forget about the above post which has a lot of story info... but to give a revamp of Lavian. since she is a magician i think i can make her join up there. she is like a wizard with the "other" elements

What say you? this matches the same amount of skills a black mage has 3 sets of 4 elementals plus 4 extra. This would also free up Deis to have a different set of magic

yeah i was talking about that with cheetah, but the colorunit instruction wears off right after the remove dark screen instruction, and even if i set it to go off again it still wears off

now then when i added the {66}() after the colorfield, the field thing didnt wear off... perhaps theres one of these for color unit?

Btw i just thought of a trick that im gonna do to increase the amount of available battle sprites (at least for some more bosses)
Fyuneral, Rudvich, Bariten, Goltana,Dupe Celia, Funeral Priest
they all have sprite sheets with capability to add a full sprite inside and they dont need it.

for Fyuneral, Rudvich, Bariten and Goltana i will paste their sprites in the over the 4 funeral sprites and use the commoners sprites with black palettes for the funeral mourners. as for the funeral priest, ill use the now unused furaia sprite. there! those 5 sprites are such a waste as is.

yay, to more special bosses. ill be able to add in some more sprites there.

also Female mimes and male and female calculators probably wont be used since i have made them unobtainable jobs now... the male mime is being used as a generic sorceror

there are more full unused sprites than what i mentioned such as Dupe Lede, Larg, Balmafula but they are going to be used in my patch.

OMG that is a freaking awesome portrait, absolutely gorgeous. Vanya and Lydyn are right, the green is better but I think you either need more dark shades at top or a smoother transition at the bottom. Really minor though, oh and one other minor thing the hair in the back is just a tad bit off. Like where the tendril from her head is meeting below her ear. And I'm not sure what is happening below her neck.

a little more about Jade. Allthough she is just a generic knight, i did give her a secondary "Barrier Magic" in combination with non-charge.

And ill probably set her target id to miluda to see if i can make it a little harder to make miluda go down.

heh, well if the battle is anything like what i did with lenalia plateau, your not gonna wanna try to lose deliberately. cause im tellin u, i tested lenalia with 4 characters that can use holy an dark sword skills + ramza and delita supporting him. and if i dont try to take her out right in one turn then i could be the loss of a few characters if not a game over

yeah and with "Fury" in place of "Brave" its even worse XD

im hoping to spend a good amount of time on each event battle test playing them to make sure its very hard. also Poisn and Charm no longer wear off and slow and stop have had their CT duration increased to the same length as Haste

any place i have a chance to give the event enemys the upper hand,(without making it impossible) i am going to. they will NEVER be on lower levels than your party.

i have to figure out how to get that green eye to look better. i had altered other aspects of the face besides just adding the green eyes, however, i like the original face i made but with green eyes.

If i cant get the green to blend then ill just revert back.

I guess because of Miluda's escape with her buddies, a few Deathcorps slipped thru the cracks. I might decide to make u have to fight her somewhere in chapter two as opposed to the next time you see Miluda. just to add more to the second chapter. Next time you see her i plan to have made her rank go up, either a Fencer or White Knight or something who have a few sword skills.

And then there is Fabian, the other person thats with Miluda. A black mage with the 3 rarely used elements, instead of fire, thunder, and ice, its wind, water, earth. with the appearance of a black mage, there wasnt a need to give him a special portrait since you cant even see his face. works for me tho. i guess ill just make those two stick together.

i also fixed a bug there, had to change the time mage into a female knight with time magic because adding miluda's sprite to the map creates the potential for 10 diff sprites on the map which is a no no.

this battle is tough. Fabian belts out aero,  tremor, or water usually right away. the other black mage follows shortly. Miluda is too far away to target anyone so she uses "Fury" raising her pa by 2, by the time she hits anyone they go down in 1 hit. after you damage anyone Jade non-charges Protect 2 on nearby targets. delita doesnt rush in, he supports ramza using yell most of the time (this is an opportunity for ramza to learn it off of him btw, if you get past chapter 1 without learning it then forget it.)

i also felt it was not necessary to show as much worry over Algus as the hostage since he wasnt related. instead he is portrayed as an innocent bystander.

@ Cheetah, I totally get what your saying, it'll require first of all swapping ramza  and delita's positions then animating them both in those new poses. But honestly, tho perhaps delita should be talking more, but I think its part of ramza's character to be the goody two shoes and stop any excessive violence.

also, that knight was trying to kill them at dorter afterall it could easily be spun in such a way that he has lines there "Take out their weakest link first! get the girl" or some shit like that. and at that, delita wouldn't care

Yes,you'll be way outnumbered! and on top of that, 2 of your 5 units are guests so you cant controll them. and if thats not enough, its a defeat all enemies battle and if you drop ignis before getting rid of the others rad and alicia will ditch you. turning it it from 10vs5 to 9vs3.

That battle is the most drastic change to the game ive done thanks again to Lasting Dawn, but  its probably (hopefully) gonna be the most challenging one in chapter 2.

how am i going to portray someone fighting you as compassionate, hehe well see... perhaps well try the secretive approach?

the geomancers here have their skill mastered so they can always use it. the ninjas job level is about 4 or 5, and so are the archers.

i think im gonna make her secondary Item with just Ether and status healing medicines learned. if she has SS Murasame then shell be able to heal without potions anyway.

she Is a Rogue, once excelling in the art of draw out, however, she surpassed other samurai in the talent after mastering the ability to summon the katana spirits without even using/drawing out the sword.

Where was she training as a samurai and why is she a "Rogue" now? I'll have to get back to you on that. She cant equip heavy armor, but she can equip robes and clothes, but her move, jump and speed are better than an average samurai

for most story battles enemies have fixed weapons
random armor and headgear
and fixed accessory
sometimes their shield slot is fixed too.

she cant equip a shield, im gonna make it so she has innate 2 hand grip

her job can equip

Katana, Ninja Knife
Hat, Hair Adornments (which have hp values now)
Robes, Clothes
any accessories

for the next map Bariaus Valley the enemies are normally at a fixed 14 or 15 level.

I give event battle enemies set weapons based on the default fixed levels whatever is highest available. (their levels will always be partylevel or higher now in my patch, but their weapon equipp will be based on what was naturally avalable in the original. so... that would be... well Bizen Boat... i might be generous and give her the Murasame tho which is enemy level 21

her other equips (besides accessory which i havent decided on yet) are based on whatever level she is.

anyway dude, this event happens right after meeting delita at warjilis port so youll have to fight you way there.

the enemies in every event map will be quite a bit harder which will probably force you to level up. just because all enemies are set to be at party level doesnt mean its a good idea to try to get thru the game on lvl 1 lol... unlike your characters, the enemies will have some pretty nice abilites and gear equipped. another thing that will force you to level up. money! other than events which i give generous bonus money on you wont get near as much from random encounters without using steal gil.
on top of that, the resale value of your items in shops is cut to 1/4th instead of just 1/2. (steal gil is starting to sound like a much more useful skill right?)

Monsters---------

Monster skills are getting a rehaul as most of them used their crazy ma growths for success rates and damage formula.

Instead their skills will get humanized formulas and each monster will be given normal ma growths. this is also because i intend to give some monsters magic sets (like ghosts, i really think should use magics) so i might in fact be doing away with the 3 or 4 skill system.

If you're looking to add difficulty you could give Ignis Salty Rage or maybe a Genji Armlet.
Or maybe a feather mantle.
It depends on how hard you want to make us work to kill her while being chopped in half by the ninjas and shot down by the archers. (A Charge +5 and an attack from a ninja would most likely kill someone X_x). That and they start on top of buildings.

ahh either of those items sounds good! I definately dont want it to be easy to take her down allthough the objective is to defeat all enemies and she merely escapes if you kill her. she doesn't have innate status immunities right now (perhaps ill make a dupe of her job for this event)

but i dont want anything too flashy right now because remember this is mid chapter 2.

one with maintinance so i could then give her that perfume. (perfumes now are normal accessories so that both genders can use them, i hate that females had advantages like that)

ohhh thats right, i had initially given her a "Magic Gauntlet" to boost her sword spirit but in this case i think id rather boost her evade or give her some other defenses

She is an optional recruit. Stubborn till the end, however the 3rd and final battle with her, if you manage to get her to critical and dont kill her the battle will end and she will have a little dialoge with you and then it will give the option to recruit her.

if you kill her before getting her to critical the game will go on without that.

i wonder if i can make it so that if you kill her, you get a rare 1 of a kind weapon as a battle reward. but if you recruit her you dont get the item.

really? because in vannila, elmdor is set to give you a cursed ring as a war trophy on the roof of riovanes, but I never, ever got it, because I allways killed one of the assassins, who have no war trophy, so I think you only recive a unit's war trophy if you actually kill that unit in the battle. (which for most battles, means you always get it, because you have to kill everybody)

heh, well with the creation of my own sprite, i have 3 of the 4 pure element users created for the patch. I have decided that they will be hybrid characters. with access to the 4 spells of their element plus a few physical attacks and one that has draw out radius.

Well... It looks like Alicia will get an edit once again. Allthough she probably looks nothing like a knight now, I need a Holy Knight that joins to fill my quota of sword users... so she is the best candidate.

(giving the elemental weapon attacks to those 4 characters i just listed pretty much makes her job seem lame as is so i guess shes the holy knight.)

And i think ill be renaming 'holy knights' to Paladin except wiegraf will stay "White Knight"

well he isnt responsible for the death of... well the person at ft zeakden. so that makes him not as much of an ass.

getting him at that time would keep you from having such a strong character (i mean holy sword skills... come on!) plus, with razele's alteration that allows swordskills to work with Ninja blades and Katanas in addition to swords and knight swords, hes gonna be pretty sweet.

nice butt shot there... it looks good, but keep in mind that that black color used for the edges and shadows should always be darker than everything else (that doesnt mean make it darker, it should never be darker than red 5, green 5, blue 5. the darkest blue seems pretty close might want to lighten all the blue slightly just to separate the shadow color a bit more.

k well working out bugs is getting annoying. I know Ignis skills are quite good, but she doesnt seem too anxious to rush into anything. perhaps its because i have 10 enemies on the map she's letting them do the work first. afterall the ninjas and archers pretty much move right away.

This is kind of late to respond to this but I thought I would give you an idea. :P

I used the patcher to change Destroy Sword's Power Ruin to do damage instead of decrease PA. I also gave it a status aliment which was Darkness and set it's formula to match that of Stasis Sword and set the range the same as Stasis Sword as well. It's worked out quite well actually. I also kept Speed Ruin as Slow and Magic Ruin to target MP but changed Mind Ruin to hit them with Sleep.

Just an idea for you to consider. ;D

PS: Zalbag rarely uses his skills during the Dycedarg battle, but if you're looking for him to use them, what I usually did was kill the guard closest to him and he goes in to Power Ruin the next guard closest to him. It helps if you cast haste on him and either take a chance stoping the guard or slowing them (I usually just hasted him and he did just that), but after awhile he just started using his Bard skills. <_<

Haha that is an interesting reinterpretation of that scene Zozma. It seemed like something might have gone a little wonky with the code because I seem to remember Ramza getting blown away when the building exploding, not waiting till after the explosion animation to go flying. And having both Delita and Algus do the charging animation looked kind of comical for some reason. Maybe try having one of them do the defend animation instead (probably Algus).

Well, Zalbag now has the Holy Sword, set as i changed his job to "Paladin"

Alicia, who has the destroy sword set. i decided to keep the skills the same. its unfortunate that the AI doesn't see them as very useful even with 0 CT. but i did give her beowulf's skill "Shock!" which will get a name change, and im also going to change its damage formula to be a magic based one and not one based on hp lost. I guess that will solve my problem.

as far as the zeakden scene... im thinking of making algus moving towards delita as if to push him out of the way just as they get engulfed by the explosion. and actually i don't think i bugged up ramza any. i think he always ducked out just after the big explosion... oh wait that little one just before... maybe so... theres so many animation frames that were taken out before he does that... hmm... will take some debugging

As far as the PSP thing, well ive never messed with the psp thing. but its still easy enough to make him want to kill ramza. especially based on the lines i gave him before he dies. but even if not, being a dead knight, his body could be controlled just like zalbag's or guildus from tactics ogre had the same issue.

i look in the new shishi and notice that several of the sprites i imported got truncated.. now ive got a whole mess to clean up! wow... *cry*

it would seem that even tho there is a max capacity and most of the stuff i insert doesn't exceed that, its not saving that way.... does this new shishi read out of the battle.bin as well...?

ive used up all the spaces available for characters that join, so everything i listed could only be on the enemy side. plus those sniper skills would be "bow only" which a check for that doesnt exist so the skills like "shadowbind" and "cupid arrow", "poison arrow"  so as long as they are on the enemy side they will appear to be bow only skills..

long shot is supposed to be a skill to extend the range of the bow a few more panels.

I suppose i could call "poison arrow" "Sidewinder" as well

snipers are kind of like long range assassins here. only their skills can be evaded.

im thinking of making them work in different ways...

one, make them use formula 2 so that each skill always does the normal attack, but with 25% chance of casting the status inflicting skill like Allure for cupid arrow, Poison, for sidewinder, etc...

but ai might not be interested in this 25% chance thing... and its important for ai to use it correctly so the next idea is to make the skill
range of weapon, and each just be a brand new version.

no, more like a few stragglers still bent on revenge. Miluda lives long enough to outgrow her stubborness toward ramza.. that is if you only take her down to crit status and dont kill her.

Snipers have to be enemy only because i have no way to make 'bow only' skills. you could use that set as a secondary and  smack someone with something crappy like a staff and it would work..

so snipers will most likely have innate Maintinance as well as Concentrate
they are going to be dangerous for certain.

lol sorry, i had planned on originally making a custom sprite for golgaros (like the capeless miluda, one for the male knight) but instead im just gonna have a generic knight with an eyepatch and a ruffed up face and tattered clothes. no not a pirate!

and snipers, well they will be able to equip bows, crossbows and maybe even guns. but long bows can only go so far because of the arc trajectory
not able to shoot too high and guns and crossbows cant shoot around things. fft characters arent gifted with the ability to "curve the bullet" hehe...

thought it was possible without the iso expansion? no not really. but now every job has its own sprite, +9B-FF amount of sprites not attached to a job.

well i dont need a super robot, ive got Iron Giants, Adamant Giants and Worker 8

iron and adamant giants dont have walking animations so they only stand in fixed spots but they will still be pretty dangeros. despite their size they can use things like meteor and such...

i was going to write worker 8 out of the playable character set, i still might but now i dont have to erase his sprite since i have plenty of room.

and because i freed up all the jobs that can be seen in the menu, i now have more specials than i have space for, so you will have to make some tough choices who you want to expel.

of course, they will appear in a few event battles and some randoms. there will probably be a shitload of them in at least one DD random as well. places where they can aim and not have to deal with buildings and trees and stuff in the way.

Red Mages are also Enemy Only as i think its tacky to have a job made up of skills you have to learn twice. But they will be at quite an advantage on the enemy side. I dont need to nerf their magic damage too much just because they have a sword.

Joker/Harlequin will be agile, not the best MA but will have pretty good MP growth. Their skills will take the risk of Buffing the enemy in an attempt to hit them with very negative side effects like Death.

Calculators and Mimes are also enemy only. Their jobs are also used to unlock all enemy jobs to certain levels.

Alright after thorough testing of the Sniper class, they do seem to be pretty balanced as to how their AI uses their skills. the only way for them to get more dangerous is if someone uses a skill to raise their speed.

I haven't had a chance to test them without half the party being guests immune to charm since i tested them at warjilis. But from my 3 normal party memebers they seem to prefer changing up the status they inflict.

"Heartbreaker" (charm) will probably be seen just as, or more often than the others since it has the highest success rate.

They will also attempt to Recovery Shot "esuna/revive" injured party members, but the success rate isnt too high on that.

Edit: There we are, about 3 posts up where I listed the skills and what they do, ive added videos.

thanks for the video... do you think tietra has too much power there? its hard to nerf her i had to give her innate defense up, and mdefense up because she ALWAYS walks right into the enemys in other battles...

plus her default faith is like 83 or something... and her brave was really low like 30 something. (heh she sure doesn't act like a chicken tho.) Also, you mentioned Algus had stasis sword in mandalia plains, did he actually use it or was it in his unlearned stuff?

oh shoot, it occurred to me that im in the middle of swapping her job location. or did i already..... man i made quite a few changes after zodiac's iso expansion

Yea he had Stasis Sword as his skill set. Imma go back and upload that battle.

Also, how is the damage calculated? Seems like my Monk Sever can one shot EVERYBODY. And my teammates do odd damage. Meaning like, they both have same PA, same weapon but one does more and the other does less.

No Zodiac stats or anything either.

hmmm Algus isn't supposed to do stasis sword....  OH i know...

thats why he learned it...  hes supposed to only have Accumulate, and the rest of the skills are just for show to make his "Fencer" job look different than a squire.

its supposed to be Split Punch, Crush Punch, Blastar Punch, Hellcry Punch

Edit: Okay the fury patch was still in effect but the cosmetic change wasnt there. no wonder the damage was so weird. I'm gonna pm you the updated Battle.bin insert it in using cdprog or something so you dont have to do the whole patch over.

its going allright, thanks to BB i have remembered several bugs i needed to fix along the way.

got a new idea from LD for where to use Bolmna and Blansch in the game.

Blansch will guard the north wall of Bethla Garrison, and Bolmna will guard the south wall. so those are 2 or 3 more battles made more unique. all these things i've gotta add in for chapters 3 and 4 XD and still so much to fix in 1 and 2 :P

they have "neutral" compatability with eachother. but whatever.

BTW has the damage changed back to normal since i updated the battle.bin? I'm not sure if Warjilis will pan out the same way or if Rad and Alicia will need to be given weaker equips now.. But i do plan to impliment Razele's "defend lowers physical damage by 25%" as well..

anyway if i recall Tietra should be about 18 0r 19 by chapter 3?  so its good to show the aging. Shell have all that stuff mastered that you saw unlearned while she was a guest in chapter 1.

"Quasar" is like a big dark holy same damage value and AoE as things like "Melt"

nope, she wouldnt really be affected any differently than other shrine knights other than being controlled by it at a young age. A change in someone innocent like her to someone corrupted would be more noticeable than someone whos seen the battlefield like wiegraf. so there you have it. On top of that, the zodiac braves claim to be "immortal" but she wouldnt have been ageless at the time she gets the stone because it doesnt take her till u kill her in chapter 3.

The story itself is not completely altered, i use "Remix" becuase its more like severely warped version of the main storyline, which results in you getting several of the characters that normally wouldnt join you, like Balmafula, Ovelia, Larg, Olan... etc..

several things will appear normal, however, will not end the same way. Such as the fates of Rafa and Malak... god rest their souls.... just kidding, im gonna enjoy animating Rafa getting thrown off the roof lol....

anyway, thanks for your support! its really encouraging to have more people interested.

Zozma, to further add to your point, if you've ever played Final Fantasy I, consider that version of the "Ninja Mage".  In later Final Fantasies, they gave the Ninjas Skeens, but I believe a more exact update being Edge's Ninja magic of Final Fantasy IV.

As it is, I agree wholeheartedly with the notion of a Ninja with magic.

Your first portrait, that one was my favorite, she looks confused, broken, and most of all, tragic. That is basically still the gist of Tietra's character, one of the reasons I really love this project.

That is a crazy looking sprite Zozma. Anyway you could make her cloths just a bit lighter to make her hair and body not so monochrome. Like using one of the lighter colors on her ear rings as the lightest shade of her cloths.

The videos are great, DC, you really know how to make it sound interesting.

I can't imagine the kind of work it must take to make a hack like this work.  I had enough troubles with romhacking, and even those had specific programs that made the job easier.  Even as a programmer, I still find stuff like this daunting, since most of my involvement in software development uses an IDE to make the job easier.

Also, "The Rad" looks awesome!  I'd always passed him up before (although in 1.3, he makes an awesome mediator if you don't take the time to learn that in Chapter 1).  I can't wait to see what else you come up with for this hack!

I'm thinking of making Rad's guest at warjilis have his 2 new skills learned since you are way outnumbered in this fight. only thing is, he is more vulnerable to getting ko'd faster. but if you back him up you might just be able to mow thru that barrage of ninjas and geomancers.

AI LOVES to use it btw. and it works well in combination with Night sword.
His last skill is like a reverse of Night sword... if one of your party is low on hp hell use it on them. Again it works quite well since he has night sword to replenish hp.

Youll also notice here that Alicia has a blue magic slot.
she can learn "Omegaflare" which is simply Flare 2 renamed and given an AoE of 2 instead of 1

also im gonna have to update a few spells assigned effect files as i just realized that effects like Hydragon Pit and all the truth effects do not spread. so i have to come up with new effect files for the level 2 water and earth spells.

i guess watera is gonna have blue bubbles and tint the screen green lol... damn tinting..

anyway, DC ill probably give you a new patch soon fixing a few things.

bestmaster will still be a useful support skill, for example

some monsters will have GOOD spells like holy when around bestmaster
i made the piggy's have different white magics, in order to help them cope with being so easy to 1 shot.

some of the juravis can cast some aero spells.
skeletons, gravity , living bone can use death.

so yea stuff like that.

I'm using razele's no breeding edit. yep youll have to invite every single monster. no getting lvl3 monsters from breeding. this also lets me make certain monsters rare if i choose

yeah, but im doing whatever i can to make the enemy have as much advantage as i can mwahaha. anyway, i plan to make rare encounters os some of the 3rd tier monsters, you wont necessarily miss the chance to get a 3rd tier monster in chapter 1

BTW Voldemort, did you alter their MA growths for those monsters who have offensive magics? cause if not those skeletons are gonna rape with Dark Holy. im giving my monsters human based ma growths and reworking the success of some of their monster skills. after all said and done i could actually make certain monster skills blue magic that is compatible with human stat growths..

Edit: these are very well thought out, i think ill give the mid tier skeleton Wind soul and save aqua soul for squids tho.

Grease Touch [Why the hell do they need this? okay i did use razele's fix for oil status, however these things dont even have any fire magic! and even if they did why would i waste a turn for this?... sigh]

Beak [Okay it petrifies, nice, how about making basilisk deadlier and give them non-charge Break, instead. Boom! have a free skill space now]

Moldball Virus [uhh.. i donno i just dont like it. Free skill space!]

Death Sentence [Floatiballs use this, well its actually a nice thing, but i think ill turn it into an oracle spell tho]

I think ill leave Ulmagest intact,
But im thinking of making a multi target death spell like
X-Zone, just like on FF6 but using the ulmaguest effect.

eye gouge (and other skills that might seem weak) work differently in 1.3


grease touch adds stop

eye gouge is confusion  + blind

small bomb is a huge MA*Y 100% AOE spell that goes off instantly with fire 4 art

all of the tree skils are AOE 2 with high accuracy rates, spirit of life is AOE 2 rez, etc etc

too many changes to monster skills in 1.3 to list here

just to give you an idea of how they are different

You cant use her default sprite slot Furaia.SPR as it does not have enough space to hold any of the compressed portion of the sprite which is all the attacking animations.

I used the dummied assassin job which is like 3B or something that accesses the LEDY.SPR sprite.
it doesnt have a menu portrait, but you can reassign the sectors with a hex editor so that job 0C uses LEDY.SPR in battle.

first on a clean iso patch the iso expansion.
second patch the sprite reassignment thing

after that, all the sprites are in DUMMY folder, and teta's along with every other sprite will be able to fit to max capacity just like any sprite.

and i wish i knew how to raise the amount of available characters, like they have in the psp version. but i dont unfortunately so stuck with 16 for now which will force you not to be able to have any generics IF you want to have 16 different specials. many of them are optional anyway.

Zozma, I've noticed a slight color issue with Tietra. In her plain walking animation, her arm looks like it flings out of its socket and moves infront of her neck/cleavage... Also, the cleavage thing rocks xD It totally works with how I want to use that sprite in my patch xD

also, I've been using her as Agrias in a fun just jumble of sprite replacements, and when she slashes her sword down to use stasis sword, her head messes up. It moves backward and still faces forward.

I have quite a few mechanics to work out now from battle to battle that BB has shown me. I definately want it to be harder, i think ill add a few more enemies on each event map for starters and then remove the restriction they have on their weapons and accessories. Gotta change the times that enemies get higher level weapons to make things more spread out.

and yeah agrias is a type 1.
Tietra, her bust might have increased a bit, remixed characters tend to get some bonuses.

not currently. Warjilis uses 2 more of the unused songs one for the beginning conversation between rad, alicia and ramza and then the music i used for battle. I'm not quite sure its a long enough track for a battle theme but you be the judge.

Ill probably change North and South wall of bethla and the sluice. if those songs have been used repeatedly.

Finath river ill probably do a similar background or something.
The track that normally plays at Lenalia plateau is it used much more after that? i think its used again but i cant quite recall... anyone know?
anyway i might use the new track i used at lenalia plateau again just to make it more a miluda thing.

also i've got yet another attack out thing to fix, not a big deal right now but if u beat ignis last the battle ends without her running. or perhaps its because i actually killed her maybe it skipped the run event.

friggin attack.out edits, its such a pain in the butt. but so necessary for the stuff im doing.

what would really work out in my favor would be if enemy current job levels went up based on what level they are instead of looking at the entd setting. or better yet, the enemy current level based on what level they are on, but you can still set any 1 of their other job levels to something else in entd as usual... id love that

Larg will have the same set of Sorcery. but you get him sometime in chapter 4 after the assassination of the imposter Larg.
the only difference is that Tietra has "Accumulate MP" which is like free mp

Tietra was taken out of consideration for recruitment long ago since she transforms into Famfrit.

LOL! The common item is a DUMMY Chirijaden
1PA 1MA 1WP but offers +4 Jump. You cant use the Draw out of the DUMMY Chirijaden or you will take 999 Damage.

But the Rare Chirijaden offers excellent stat boost:
+5PA +5MA +30WP offers +2 Move +2 Speed +2 Jump. The Draw Out version is Black/Red Flames coming out dealing 999 damage to any enemy but it can hit allies also.

I belive they are spells based on the various Skeen weapons that the ninja Shadow would throw at enemies in FF6/3US to deal magaical elemental damage to multiple foes. I think it's a very fitting choice since Rafa and Malak are supposed to be like these magical ninja assassins.

To continue on:

I hope you guys are cool with 1.3 style monsters. im not following their skillsets exactly... im a bit reluctant to have normal chocobos doing choco ball, but it might be interesting. youll probably find that spells like protect and shell will come in alot more handy in my patch.  (at least when im done anyway) and DC! 2 can play *puts random job lvl8 monks everywhere* just kidding

any suggestions are welcome as well as i have to edit pretty much every monster's stats a bit.

due to the fact that the less used 3 elements, wind, water, earth are going to have more of a spotlight in my patch monsters now have different weaknesses. ANYTHING with float status is weak to wind, bombs half wind to nullify this so dont bother, but they are weak to Water, not ice.

Panthers are now weak to fire

dragons absorb their element

Minitaurs are weak to wind due to their element being earth which is opposing.

I think ill change goblins weakness to water, and make bombs weakness Ice. but im still debating that.

Jura Avis are weak to earth as their element is opposite
they can be hit by earth attacks since they arent actually floating.

floatiballs ... hmmm weak against what..? well i think they are naturally weak to wind as well.

anyway, as you can see the new elements will now be just as useful as the normal 3 you have. only thing is there are only a select few characters that can use them (currently)

Also DC im sure you've noticed by now but Oracle spell effects use the short versions (which i think match other ff games more than the ones that have the little phantoms)

Monsters: the biggest changes with monsters, when you control them they cannot defend, exception being Boco, but if ai is controling them they can.

they now cannot breed, and monsters are the only type of units that can be invited. All monsters have 3 skills + a beastmaster activated skill.
so chocobos who normally only had choco attack and choco cure will now have something else.

there will be rare encounter monsters (level 4 monsters with ??? status)
and those monsters will have innate beastmaster.

the only status growth changes are to MP and MA and elemental weakness. some monsters will have innate non charge (mainly the ones with only status spells, monsters with powerful attack magic will probably still have short charge. so there are advantages to having monsters sometimes.

okay next things to do.... weapons are all going to be spread out, more.
instead of the highest level of easily available weapons (crystal gear)

being available at like lvl40 or some crap like that its available at lvl75+ for the randoms. everythigns all spread out to that. ill also make their shop availablities more spread out too.

also recycling old weapons into 1 of a kind weapons OR adding new attributes to old ones:

Nagrarok - WP 15 25% chance to cast Crush Punch
(will cast Crush Punch at 100% chance IF i can get someone to asm that formula...)

Windslash Bow now casts Aera at 25% chance

Fire/Ice/Thunder rods using formula 4

BTW, some of the battles had low level units like the swamp battle. I was like WTF? Ghoul at level 12 and others. Same as for Barias Hill.

I've made quite a few changes in ENTD since i gave you that demo ppf.
now all of the event battles are set to partylevel random (untill i go back and give a few +'s to some of the units later)

ill probably need to give you a copy of the patch that u can patch simply opening it with fft patcher and patching it over the same version you are using now. (that way you can test out the changes to my enemy monsters)

we'll see, but it might be difficult to get the patch just right with the PSP due to the iso expansion. And more than likely it will retain the PSX dialog, at least for now.

There may be comatability issues with the psp due to sprite reassignment into the DUMMY folder

its possible, especially since u cant get a holy dragon currently. Reis is enemy only and already in human form. Holy dragons are a bit different and have holy breath as well

But I hate what Ignis has equipped. Damn Silk Robe. WTF! I prefer a Light Robe or something Rare since she has Maintenance.

Cashmere is expected if you are on lvl99 its being turned into a ninja blade.

she had a normal silk robe on? how can that be is "random" THAT random? gotta find a way to fix that

Yes very Random indeed. The Archers are fine since they got Ultimus Bow. Yea at level 99 got hit with a Cashmere. I was like WTF. I died too.

it dont know, unfortunately i doubt that an expanded iso patch, such as this one,  is compatable with WOTL. so i cant promise that there is a possability right now, just assume that for the time being that there isnt one.

well fft patcher makes it easy to do everything to existing events/battles

but for changing battle conditions, special event character animations, B0 instructions which trigger later events, creating new spell effects, etc that stuff is what takes time.

debugging text changes can take a bit of time too

random battles are getting more complicated,

also thanks to zodiac, there wont be any crystal farming (randoms had too many skills open)

also  you have to find the "Pheromones" accessory to invite monsters!
(had to make your life more difficult.

well im in the middle of moving so things are currenty stopped untill im set up at my new house. but the first demo will have the battles set up, but events will look incomplete. so the demo would be mainly about battles for now

I am attempting to make all the random encounters have at least 3 more enemies appear at all times, and have more randomness to them as well. but there are quite a few maps to run thru. when that is all done, i will stop to make a demo even tho the game will look buggy because many events and even more dialoge is not completed

i cannot stop for the event changes right now, first priority is to get all the battles set up. then i will go back, and each time i hit an event ill work on it till it looks the way i want it. and now that there is a decent eventchr tool life will be easier.
