So I have been doing all these sprites and portraits for like 6 months now and I use Photoshop as my main graphics tool. I just realized tonight after trying to do a color limiting on a quick portrait palette swap that I have been doing my color reductions incorrectly. So basically I have been having this one selection saying "Force Black and White" and basically that removes two colors that I could have been using for other stuff... So when I only get 16 colors to work with I was limiting myself to 14 without even realizing it.
All it really means is that a few of my sprites and portraits get to be a bit prettier, but I still feel like a dumb shit. Especially considering I made this discovery at 3:30 AM.
Don't be so hard on yourself, I didn't know how to do long division until I was 17, what matters is that we learned eventually.
I have photoshop but i dont use it much unless i can use 78987678665876 colors XD
Don't be so hard on yourself. Your portraits and sprites always look great. So, if anything, the fact you were able to make them look so good using 2 less colors is a testament to your true skill!
lol well this only means what was good just got better
Yeah...I still feel like an idiot. But that doesn't slow down my rate of spriting.
if you mean you have to have 1 black and 1 white as color, youre pretty much forced to have those two colors anyway since black is used for transparent. you are being hard on yourself. its not easy playing around with color limitations as is
i like your sprites too.
Cheetah, I made the same realization as you, but then realized that I used black and white in my portraits. Either way, I don't usually stay under the color count anyway (or even finish a sprite).
Well it was only an issue with the Portraits really, and it turns out I only got one more color out of a few portraits. But it all turned out well, though I am still a dumbass haha.
