Spriting / Re: Sprites that Fit the Psp FFT..?
June 27, 2010, 12:07:30 am
If you want to use a sprite file that is larger than the PSP file size limit you have to use an earlier version of Shishi which you can get from here:

http://code.google.com/p/lioneditor/downloads/list

the version .352 is fairly stable and is what I use to bypass the size limit.

I'm guessing this wont work with a WOTL ISO seeing as it doesn't have an SCUS_942.21 file?

EDIT:  NVM, it seems the PSP version really is based off of the japanese version of the game, did a search of the forums and found out that for the psx version the japanese equivalent of SCUS_942.21 is the SLPS_007.70, which the WOTL ISO has.

Help! / Re: Check for Weapon Element

HOLY CRAP! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!

Now to figure out how this excel sheet works lol.

But I got another question now.  I'm working on a WOTL ISO and that doesn't seem to have an SCUS_942.21 file anywhere.  Since the thread says I need to work with this file is there any way to fix this?

Help! / Check for Weapon Element
June 26, 2010, 08:53:27 pm
Is it possible to create a formula that checks the element of the equipped weapon and then decides if the skill is available for use or not?  Kinda like how swordskills are only useable when swords are equipped.  What I want to do is create a set of skills that are only available when the element of the equipped weapon matches the element of the skill.  For example take the Black Mage.  It's main skills are based around Fire/Ice/Lightning, by assigning elemental properties to the various weapons when equipped they would allow access to the various elemental skills, at the same time when the element on the weapon doesn't match that of the skill the skill becomes unavailable.

So basically when the Fire Rod is equipped then Fire/Fira/Firaga/Firaja become usable, when the Ice Rod is equipped Blizzard/Blizzara/Blizzaga/Blizzaja become useable etc.  Then some weapons could be assigned multiple elements and that weapon would open up multiple elemental skills so a dual elemental Fire/Ice weapon would open up both sets of spells.

It's a concept I thought of with the goal of finding a way to make Equip Change more critical to a battle's outcome.

War of the Lions Hacking / Re: Question about ENTD

The 1,2,3, or 4 that folllows an instance indicates what chapter those instances become available in.  The 5th instance is a rare battle and becomes available during the 4th chapter.  Although I've heard rumors about people being able to activate the rare battles in earlier chapters.

Don't use paint, I use Photoshop instead, others use Graphics Gale.

Actually formation screen sprites are stored in the Unit.bin.  And you need FFTEVGRP to open that.

Generally when going from CSO to ISO there are problems, because most if not everyone removes the dummy files prior to compression and that seems to cause problems.  A fresh ISO from the UMD is generally the best way to start.
29
It might be your ISO then.  Try ripping a new ISO from your UMD and import the sprites from the new one instead.

No, I'm saying that the WOTL ISOs cant be extended like the PSX FFT ISO.  If you want to put those sprites into a WOTL ISO you'll have to download an earlier version of Shishi.  The .352 version should work seeing as that's the version I use to bypass the byte size limit (only problem I see there is that since the files aren't being extended you're probably gonna be writing over some other data, I have no idea what effect that would have on the game).  You can get it off the lioneditor project site, here's a link:

It's probably a WOTL ISO, no extension available for WOTL.  I think the readme said because of "overlapping" sprites.

I built mine 2 years ago (first build for me). Purchased all the hardware from newegg.com.  Spent only about 1100-1200 bucks.  Got lucky because my in-law is friends with a guy who works for Microsoft so I got the retail version of Vista Ultimate for like 14 bucks.  Been lovin' it ever since.  My only complaint is that I'm pretty sure my CPU (Phenom 9850 running at stock 2.5GHz) is bottlenecking my crossfired GPUs (two ATI 4850s).  Oh, also my room get warm as frickin' hell when my computer runs for extended periods of time.

Building one yourself is the way to go.  My parents bought a pre-built from Best Buy for my sisters and it goin' to hell right now, and they can't do anything about it.

Help! / Re: Using the Iron Giant Sprite
May 02, 2010, 07:47:20 pm
That's a bummer I was hoping to see what job it was linked to and edit from there.  I did manage to overwrite the DAMI.spr file using the very first shishi release but after rebuilding the fftpack.bin and reinserting it the game frooze after the opening movie.  I really think it might be possible seeing as I've been able to inject sprites that were bigger than the base sprites size using the version .352 of shishi and the game would run fine.

Help! / Using the Iron Giant Sprite

How do I get it in the game?  The newest Shishi doesn't allow me to overwrite the DAMI.SPR and the older version doesn't have access to it. :|

Any ideas?

I'm on the psp version by the way.

In battle you'd have the custom portrait and sprite, but outside of battle the original portrait would be used, so like the formation screen would have the original portrait.  It could be fixed using FFTEVGRP just like with the UNIT.BIN but there one problem.  The portraits are all screwed up because it's using the wrong palatte colors and that's beyond my scope of skill.  You'll need someone else to tell you how to fix that.

Yes, you should be able to right-click and save.

Portraits?  No, the portrait for the formation screen is in the WLDFACE.BIN.  Those are for just the formation screen sprite which is in the UNIT.BIN.  I dunno about the tactext error.  I generally only use the quickedit to avoid errors.

Yes, changing Orlandeau's sprite is what you want to do if you want to avoid having generics look like sephiroth.

Also here's 4 UNIT.BIN sprites I got done for you.

Base sprite is simply the sprite you have that character set to, this also controls the base job that they have access to (for generics it would be squire, for the special characters it their special class).  Generic characters utilize the Generic Male or Generic Female base (this allows the sprites to change to look like the different generic jobs when they change Jobs).  The special characters utilize their own special base sprite so they don't change regardless of what class they are in.

You can change classes.  So long as the base sprite is "Orlandeau", he'll look like Sephiroth regardless of what class he is.

Also I'll probably have one or two sprites uploaded later on today.  Finally have some free time, was at a family gathering for my grandma today.
