A little late on this, but thanks Pride.  I'm pleased to know I have a fan.  I tried to make the team as versatile as possible, although it still has its weaknesses (berserk being one, although that's a weakness for any team without Defense Rings or Refute).

Frogs will die even if teams come prepared to cure it.  At 150% incurred damage, they draw the entire enemy team's fire.  Also, support units restore the frog's HP over curing the status.  The only way to cure frog is to have a significant turn lead.  If you want statii to stick around after death, I suggest statii that don't break the AI.

You sure about these?  I can't refuse new movement ideas, given how there are so few, but +3 seems a little high.  Faith UP and Brave UP will look terribly expensive by comparison.

Finally, what do people think about giving male mage classes a significant HP boost?  They are currently eclipsed by their female counterparts in terms of MA, and their extra PA is of little practical use.  They also have extra HP, but not enough to tempt people away from the females.  A boost of 10~20 HP might do the trick.  Pushing their HP past that of melee classes is not a problem, as they still won't have armour, shields, nor destructive power of these melee classes.  This would help differentiate the males from the females.  The males can be used as tanky support/status units, and the females can remain as glass cannons.

I'm not sure what you mean by copy-pasting, but yeah, it presents you with all the choices you need to make when designing a team.  Rainbow Staff doesn't work properly, as I am too lazy to code its functionality, but everything else should be true to form.

I'm going to be putting links to the videos in the OP so people who fall behind don't need to fish for them.  I find Youtube's playlist to be inconvenient when browsing through dozens of videos.

If this current tournament is about arm wrestling, then, yes, the results of S5 would be worthless in determining seeds, because arm wrestling and playing FFT have nothing in common.  Arena and 1.3, however, do.

I'm not sure where you're going with the win/loss ratio argument, unfortunately, as the loser's bracket never guarantees that people with identical win-loss records are paired, even if there are no seeds.  The single difference with seeds is that this mismatch appears in the first set.  I don't see who this is unfair to.  If you are seeded and lose your first two matches, you were a bad seed.  This falls within the realm of prediction.

I must apologise, then, as I haven't been keeping track of who has been successful in the practise battles.  Going through months of practise battles will set this tournament back by several days.  The number of entrants isn't equal to a power of two, so there must be seeds whether we like it or not.  Either somebody invests hours formulating some way of sorting seeds through a disorganised thread of practise battles, or we use what we can to get the tournament going.  We need to be sensitive to our hosts schedules, too.  Wiz, in particular, told me that he'd like to get through his matches quickly because he's got work.

We might very well not be able to achieve what seeding is meant to do, but seeding with a potentially bogus list will be no worse than seeding at random.

I understand where you're coming from, Fanatic, but loser's brackets are structured to minimise scenarios where teams lose to the same team twice (once in the winner's, then again in the loser's).  Restructuring it will only increase the odds of this occuring.

Challonge's bracket distribution is competent.  This is an application that generates brackets for real tournaments (as in tournaments that people pay money to set up and host).  It doesn't matter how uneven the number of entries are; the bracket gets balanced out leading up to the championship, meaning that there are no byes at semi-finals, quarter-finals, and so on.  The creation of dummy teams isn't necessary.

Byes in the early rounds are perfectly acceptable.  The idea is to seed the stronger players so that those who don't get byes have at least one match in which to stand a chance of winning.  This is not unfair to the weaker teams that turn out to be strong, as they'll win their first match without problem and proceed to the second set where the seeded players are.  As we haven't done pools, we do not know exactly which teams are strong, but we can go by past results.  For example, I'm aware that fdc puts a lot of time into team design.  We would seed him so that he doesn't crush the dreams of an ill-conceived team in the first set.  The team's dreams can be broken after it wins its first set and meets him in the second, but then it will at least have been able to enjoy a minimum of three matches (two in winner's bracket, and one in loser's) as opposed to two, which I believe is what really matters.

Byes are common.  A national fighting game tournament held just over this weekend gave a reigning champion a bye all the way to the semi-finals so he wouldn't destroy the competition.

The past results we'd go by is season 5.  This would mean that newcomers won't be seeded, as their teams are yet unproven.  This is a cruel reality, but a better one than letting the veterans thrash them in the first set.

I'm not complaining about petrify because nameless dance doesn't proc it.  Frog I have complained about, but I haven't yet been able to generate much dialogue about it.

If nameless dance messes up the dancer's AI as well as the opponent's, then perhaps it needs to be redesigned indeed.

That's true.  I suppose we could compromise.  Don't act has a CT of 20, so silence could have a CT of around 30.  Silence could also be made to prevent the use of all skills and give that poor man at least enough money to feed himself.  The fact that it doesn't take CT is a problem, though, forcing me to suggest we strip silence from nameless dance, which I think has already been stripped enough.  This would also apply with blind.  Considering the grief we've been having with nameless dance, perhaps it's time to redesign it into something that doesn't tend to break the AI - something like 50% chance of dispell.  Then again, if this change scares the AI into refusing to buff itself, then we're no better off.

I don't expect that every consumer wants to buy an electric car knowing it costs about $10,000 more than an economy-sized gasoline-powered car, has a range of a few tens of kilometres, takes hours to recharge, and will become scrap metal once the batteries die out.  And every consumer doesn't.  My message is about giving consumers a choice.

To put this in FFT's terms, I don't expect every person to want to put a reflect ring on a mage knowing that reflect can be dispelled, ignored by summon magic and lore, and that it blocks friendly healing and support.  I want people to freely consider giving their mages evasion, elemental absorption, and status resistance.  My suggestion is a modest one: put a duration on silence so that teams without reflect rings aren't hamstrung by an inept AI.  Silence will still have its role in shutting down mages, just as gasoline prices have their role in pushing people toward electric cars.  Those afraid of silence can still choose electric.  Those not afraid can try something else.
