When you say legit red magic skillset, what exactly do you mean? Just curious/interested, as I use red mages in my personal hard mode patch.

Xifanie, this soldier office hack looks awesome and I can't wait to use it. I love how customizable it is.

As a suggestion for a potential hack, it would be nice if reflect didn't suck so much. It would be nice if it acted the way it does in other ff games, like a counter magic hamedo, where the spell is reflected back at the caster. I'm only posting it here because it seems like it would have broad appeal, so I apologize if I'm in the minority, or if it is really unfeasible...

I had a little bit of time today so I tested ALMA on consoles.

First, I tested a clean ISO on console to make sure it worked fine (Orbonne battle, etc).

Next, I applied all 4 parts of ALMA to the clean ISO (I didn't make any changes to any of the fields in ALMA, so a "clean ALMA").
The game froze when the text "Orbonne Monastery" appeared.
I loaded a saved game to see if I could get into a random battle. Strangely, I had a lot of difficulty triggering a random battle, but when I did, the game froze before loading the formation screen.
When I entered the party menu from the map, everyone's naked HP and MP had been reduced to 1. Equipment was able to add HP and MP to this naked value.

Next I applied only the "clean" attributes hack instead of all 4 hacks. Same result as before. I have not tried applying each of the other 3 hacks individually.

Lastly, since I was only able to access the party menu when ALMA was applied, I tried to see if the ALMA attributes could do anything that they were supposed to in the party menu. I gave monster talk "attribute 50" which I had set to double HP. With equipment, my mediator had 163 HP and it doubled to 326 when I set monster talk as her support ability. There weren't a lot of other things I could test since I could not enter any battles.

Battles were fine if I loaded the hacked ISO (where monster talk doubled HP) into ePSXe, and the hack worked as expected. I hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the notes.  I'm also looking at knocking out some of the hardcoding FFT does (e.g. having whether an item is a shield, hat, armor, or accessory be determined by FFTPatcher, not its item number; having the "Action Menus" tab in FFTPatcher actually do what you would expect it to without the Generic Skillset Hack).


I know that I encountered some problems with ALMA on consoles and I applied ALMA to a clean ISO to make sure it wasn't my other hacks. I just figured it was not designed with consoles in mind but since that is not the case I am willing to do some bug testing for you. I had a few specific problems and once I double check them I'll post in detail.

This still causes my mages to punch when casting spells.

Tested your very cool weapon effect hack by giving the flare effect to a rod. While it had the desired effect, whenever my mages cast a spell it is accompanied by a punching animation. It's a fresh ISO with no other patches/hacks. Anyone else that can test this?

This is a request to change the formula for rods from WP*PA to Dmg_F(MA*WP). I want to use this with the weapon effect hack to cast spells with rods. I know there are other ways to do this (using a hack to change the proc rate, etc) but those have the aesthetically unpleasing effect of showing the damage from the rod before the spell proc, whereas I'd rather the character swing their rod and instantly cast the spell using a formula that replicates the spell perfectly (I can change WP to match the Y value for spells using formula 08). If I am having a ditzy moment and there is already a way to do this....let me know.

Thanks in advance if anyone decides to do this.

Is it just me, or does the default value for martial arts in the multiplier workbook do something crazy? (My monks started doing over 500 damage at level 3)

Correct. When the ai is frogged, it can cast frog on itself or my party. I tried it on an enemy knight to make sure it wasn't just working on monsters, and the enemy knight was able to unfrog himself. However, when I am frogged, my attack remains a normal frog attack (and all my other abilities are grayed out as usual).

Strangely, when I turned a panther into a frog, it was able to cast the frog spell on itself. It just doesn't work if one of my units is frogged.

I want to change the frog status such that someone afflicted with frog gains the ability to cast the frog spell. I tried to do this by changing frog attack in fftpatcher, but none of the changes I make have an effect. Is there a trivial way to do this? Thanks.

I have changed the name of a status effect but how do I change the text that appears above the unit when they are afflicted? For example, when casting doubt faith, "INNOCENT" appears above the unit. In addition, when a unit is targeted it will display something like "96% INNOCENT." How do I edit this?

Eh, it must be my ISO, because the "precision" skill in FFT+, which uses this hack, has no effect in my game...

I can't get this ASM hack to work. I used the fftorgASM packaged with fftpatcher .480

I used a clean ISO and used fftpatcher to make the empty slot above short charge ("unknown") learnable by time mages. I replaced short charge with "unknown" and gave it a name in fftactext. I patched my ISO.

I then used fftorgASM to patch my ISO with the "empty slot above short charge adds 25% bonus skill hit" hack. I started the game, learned the ability, and set it as my support skill for a time mage.

Before I patched the ISO, my time mage casting haste on himself would have the success rate of .69x.69(5+180%)=88%. However, nothing changed after applying the hack. Same result with other abilities. I applied other hacks and they worked just fine. I tried using xml generator to make a new xml from the hack posted in the forums and it still did not work, although other hacks worked.

Am I making some embarrassing fundamental error?

These are so beautiful, you have a great style. I especially love the time mage because I've always wished they looked a little more sinister. I can't wait to use it but will hold out for that female version you mentioned. *crosses fingers* An evil looking Oracle would also be cool, maybe I will work on that.

As I begin learning ASM hacking, would it be possible for someone to make a formula hack for me that replaces 08 Dmg_F(MA*Y) with DMG_F(MA*Y)100% status? The other 100% status inflicting formulas either involve PA damage, %HP damage, or don't deal damage at all, unless I'm overlooking something...
