Part of the game's greatly is its ambiguity: this black and white notion of right and wrong can't be accurately applied to the plot and its characters. Everyone has motives, whether it's Gustav, Wiegraf, Dycedarg, or even Ramza. You need to examine why each of these men acted the way the did. Gustav, for instance, may not be a noble man, but it can be argued that he was trying to look out for the good of his fellow man but his actions didn't necessarily reflect his motives all that well.
