Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

Yeah, I suppose so, there just doesn't seem to be enough room for open-mouth/exposed teeth portraits to look very good.

Hmm, an interesting look, subtle, yet effective.

Looks a little weird to me. I like the idea of showing teeth, but it's a bit of a challenge, due to the size of the portraits...For instance, look at my attached edit. At best it looks okay zoomed out, but when you look at the double-sized version, he looks like a damn hockey player--missing more teeth than he can count...

Hahah. I'm no fan of this tooth-showing menace, but I made it to visualize the fallacies with these new-style mouths in general...

This is a difficult matter, fully agreed, though perhaps we can look to War of the Lions cutscenes? They all look very realistic, and Natural, the hardest part then would be... the pretty much crafting of the new portraits taken after the likeness of their WoTL self, for instance, the logo of Hacktics has a determined and Fierce looking Ramza, things like that look very natural, I feel.

Well, here are some screens of people's faces I was able to gather from some of the cutscenes, perhaps these could be used for ideas?

Ah great work Aquablack, yes those are fine examples. There are a series of... ten or eleven I recall...
Opening - Ovelia's Abduction - Sunset at Mandalia - Fort Zeakden Disaster - Zirekile Falls Victory - Delita at Warjilis - Delita & Ovelia - Delita's Will - Luso - Balthier - Ending

EDIT: Mav? You had a post here didn't you? Did it just... vanish? Or did you delete it.

I'll see if I can find some more of passable quality, as there seems to be alot of people who think pointing a camera at a PSP is a great film making technique.

Edit: Took some more shots, I'll add them to this post, as the last one is long enough already.

(Darn you Ramza, your bangs makes it very hard to see your face.)

Attempt #1,000,000,000 on Zalbag with a commanding face...I went against my better judgment and tried an open mouth...how does it look?

Hmm, I think it looks pretty good actually. I think the right side's outline looks a bit dark in the 2x view though.

I can definitely fix the shading. As for making the mouth smaller, it'll take some time, but I think it's doable.
