trouble in fort zeakden
« on: March 05, 2010, 12:56:59 PM »
hi, im having a quite lot of diffuculty beating algus in fort zeakden. im trying out this low level character strategy where i can face enemies at a lower level. but yet every time i try the squire + axe combo strategy to lure algus in to being OHKO'ed, it never goes my way. is there a different method i can try to beat algus being a lvl 1 character? or am i better off acing algus at a higher level. if anyone can help me that would be great. thanks

Axe proc can't help you anymore
Try to use meatbone slash, ice spells...

Axe procs are darkness element, and most bosses are dark immune to prevent that sort of gibbing.

The most fundamental method is to take the other two people (pref one of them with haste) that are on the backside of the fort, around the back to meet up with the rest of crew.  Do not bring them forward right away.

Rigging up a meatbone slash archer decoy is a bit difficult but highly effective, and nothing says lovin quite like a MAU, Str:Ice wizard rocking ice3 or a similar spell as the environment also gives you an ice booster.

Just another rebel plotting rebellion.

I don’t want to bolster any “violent gamer” tropes, but that statement makes me want to improve the connectivity of my front two knuckles with their esophagus.  I wonder how Brenna would respond if I told her that “fidelity” was complicated.

I dont mean to be rude but a neutral compat flare from a 70 faith mage w/ 15 attack does about 215 damage to Algus ((15*2/3)*46*.7*.67) if my math is correct. Since you aren't going to have 15 magic attack in chapter 1 (let alone algus with less the 215 HP) so... how about best compat? With 10 Magic Attack (more realistic in chapter 1) and best compat I'm getting like 193 damage from that flare. Hell I had to launch 2 Ice4 w/ Ice Rods and still needed more damage (Algus' Wizard helped me with that). Algus' innate Magic DefendUP sucks =/

I just beat him by spamming black magic on him, too, but I wasn't completely maxed out. All my casters either had level 3 magic or level 2 + Magic Attack Up. I was never able to take him out immediately after his third turn, like every time, he would move, then one of my units would freeze him. I kept reloading for that, and also to see if I would get new skills on Rad, Lavian, and Alicia.

Speaking of those three, where can I set the jobs that they start with? I think I might set one to Summoner instead of Mediator or Oracle (since they're both on the same tree). Is this done with FFTPatcher?

EDIT: Ok I found it. In the ENTD, on event number 110, "End of Chapter 1, Orbonne Monastery"

If you're going to make minor changes like that to make things more convenient for you I'm not sure you should be posting your progress on here

My progress is so terrible that it isn't really worth posting, so I wasn't planning on it. I've had to reset every battle since Dorter except the Desert. Chapter One was rough mostly because I might have been too high of a level. I tried to push to Monk too early, and this really hurt me. I've been avoiding all random battles after that, since I can't really afford the experience.

Other than their respective starting jobs, I don't think there's anything else to change. This is the first time I've even tried to figure out how to change something in the game, and I don't think it's a drastic change anyway, since I already have a mediator, summoner, and lancer, just no one at job level 5 yet. What was the point of altering them in the first place? To make the join-ups useful?

There's no such thing as "terrible" progress
Either you're progressing, or you're not
Resets are part of the game

Anyway, it sounds like you're having a pretty average run (like PX said)
