Greetings
« on: December 25, 2008, 02:23:09 AM »
Hello. Long time lurker of the site, while I occasionally prod at hacking I am no pro at it, I am however much much better at spriting. Which brings me to the point of this topic.

About a week ago a friend of mine and I were scribbling in Open Canvas and she suddenly got inspired and did this up:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Sparksfox/hunter.jpg
Well I filed it away in my copious and horribly unorganized hard-drive until just yesterday where I thought "OH HEY! I could totally pixel that." And the result, half an hour after the idea, was the portrait you see earlier in this post. Well I thought "Well it's not bad." and then I got the vile idea to make a monster out of it by gutting a pre-existing monster in FFT (Apanda maybe.) and such began my project. I will soon begin making sprites for it to use in game and as I do so I will update this topic.

In all honesty the portrait needs some polishing but i'll touch at that later.

TL;DR: SUCK IT UP AND READ IT.

there currently arent many who attempt monster sprites here.. in fact, one has never been submitted officially to the main downloads page.

btw your avatar looks nice.... and gives me an idea , a hunter/sniper job hehe..

Yes yes, I know, I'm crazy.
The only thing that's holding me back is i'm not sure of my limitations for monster sprites.

Speaking of the avatar, it was also spurned by the friend I spoke of, it's not scratch like the hunter but it's a moderate edit, I was just lazy. A HURR.

Hunters aren't from anything you would know of as they're an origional concept from the friend I mentioned. They're "Elite" soldiers from a northern government, they're humans wearing a very advanced armor that's powered by things called living cores, contact with these cores is hazardous so only the "Strong" survive, however at the cost of mutation and reliance on the armor. The armor supplies them with enhanced strength and speed and comes with a nifty "Predator-Camo" and the handy ability to regenerate injuries.

When I was in elementary school ten, fifteen years ago, I used to daydream up things similar to your hunter when I was on the playground.  I always tried to draw the things I imagined, but they never really turned out the way I wanted, and they looked like they were drawn by an eight-year-old (because they were).  Between your friend's concept and your spriting, you are fulfilling a childhood dream of mine, and I love you for it.

+1 to this topic.

Also, yes.  We definitely definitely need more monster spriters!

Preliminary sprite version 1:

Sort of ended up more zodiac monster sized really. I can work with that.

Edit: Now in transparent background flavor.

that looks pretty sweet... perhaps youd be able to give the unfinished "iron giant" its walking animations....

Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness, bringing torment and pain to others. Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin, perhaps...it is time to die

i love it, it looks creepy without being cheesy (though it does kind of remind me of a mix between alien and predator), if we somehow did find out how to make an FFT MMO i would hope you would sprite for the people making it

That is definitely sweet. It doesn't really fit the FFT style, but that isn't what you were going for. I'm excited to see the walking animation.

One hour, 5 lindt Lindor Truffles, and a constant stream of blind gaurdian later:

And I churn this piece of crap out. ARE YOU HAPPY, ZOZMA?
LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO! IT'S TERRIBLE!
Anyway, it's slightly off center in some spots which bugs me but I can't be bothered to fix it right now.
Worker 8 palette used.
