FFT Arena / Barren's Mini AI Tournament Registration
« on: November 21, 2016, 10:56:26 AM »
Hey guys I was hyping this up for quite sometime and now I want to announce that my mini tournament registration is finally open!

Now, this will be a long term project with the most amount of matches I'll have on one video. To fill the void, I'll also be doing a LP on Eternal's FFT K.O. 2.6 as well. That will be going on during Christmas break. So stay tuned for that and thank Eternal for the work he put into making this patch and releasing it after 3 years since his last update.

Now the format for this one I've finally decided that it will be a regular AI tournament (We can definitely do a pairing tournament or a SCC tournament in the future). The number of participants I'll allow are 16. No more. I messed up the team count last time and I ain't letting that happening again.

The Rules

JP Cap of 3000
That's right, no JP Cap! So go nuts on spending your JP like you would spend your money on Black Friday!

1 copy of equipment only
You are only allowed to use 1 equip regardless of what class you pick. This will challenge/encourage you to make a either a new team you haven't submitted yet or revamp one of your existing teams. An example of a team anyone can try out with this rule is a water absorb team using coral sword, dewdrop shield, rubber costume and chantage respectively. So please think of something interesting or innovative! You'll be put to the test there!

1 copy of an ability only
For those who are familiar with the Season 3 tourney rules it's pretty as self explanatory as the 1 copy of equipment rule. Pretty much you're only allowed to pick 1 copy of an ability for your team. So no having two units with throw item as a picked support ability. But I will allow innate abilities as an exception to this rule. So for example, you can have a ninja that has innate two swords and a paladin with the two swords support ability on your team. This allows you experiment with abilities that you might not have used before on your usual squads.

The deadline will be 10 days before Christmas which will give people who wish to join plenty of time to think of something. For those who are in school (like myself) can get enough to finish finals while thinking of a team on the side. I am not extending it any further like I have done in the past. Whoever ends up submitting on time will be in. I promise to put in an extra effort to make sure that I didn't mess up and didn't add you to the participant list.

Map selection for rounds and Single Elimination

This will be single elimination. The Eighth-finals and quarter finals will be best 3 out of 5. The semi finals and grand finals will be 4 out of 7. The map selection for those rounds will be Medium, Large, Small in that order. For the Eighth and quarter finals it'll go like medium, medium, large, small, small. For the last 3 matches it will go in the order of Medium, Medium, Large, Large, Small, Small, Small.

What's to gain for entering this tournament?
While not the bragging rights of a seasonal tournament you just say you wanted to have some fun! Good luck to everyone whose entering and thank you all once again for playing FFT Arena!

Edit: Counter Flood isn't allowed because of a damage bug where it will randomly decrease when the reaction ability goes off. Thank you Anima Zero for reminding me

FFT Arena / FFT Arena AI Tournament for Summer 2016
« on: August 01, 2016, 02:32:28 PM »
(Thanks Reks for correcting me earlier) I apologize for those who already voted. I made a mistake in the topic and I'm redoing the topic as it should be correctly called. You can re-vote

To explain what all of these rules mean, SCC (Single Class Challenge) is a tournament where you must pick a primary for all four units. For example, a team of 4 squires or 4 wizards.

Double Elimination is your regular winner's loser's bracket with grand finals.

Swiss-style tournaments allow all participants to play in every round, pairing each player based on their current records. This ensures that players with similar records are paired together. Sometimes, it is not possible to pair players with exactly the same records, in which case you may be paired up or down. The winners of the two brackets will face off in the grand finals.

Pairing rules means that two people team up via random and create a team together. Gatebuster suggested that have a rookie and a pro pair up and make a team together.

Twins Only means that you can make a team of clone units (See Andrew's Twins Time teams as examples).

FFT Arena / Season 5 Tournament for Winter 2017?
« on: July 30, 2016, 02:33:00 PM »
Hey guys with 1.4 already released, I was wondering if anyone would like to do a traditional FFT Arena AI Season tournament for the winter of 2017 (starting January 1 or 2)?

I figure since the fall won't be a go (at least for me to host) because I'm going back to school and I really want to graduate and get out of there. Plus it gives us a chance to get more of a feel for 1.4.

We can discuss registration and whatnot before we do it. Just wanted everyone's opinion on what they think

We don;t have many videos up yet but we will get more as we go along so if you can please spread the word as we want to get as many subscribers as we can. We know it will take time but we can do it. Thank you once again!

FFT Arena / 2nd FFT Arena Single Class Challenge AI Tournament
« on: August 11, 2015, 11:16:35 AM »
Welcome everyone to the second ever FFT Arena Single Class Challenge Tournament, where we have a 28 player roster! To bring everyone up to speed this is double elimination. If you win in your match, good job. If you lose once, don't despair there's time to make a recovery in the loser's bracket. Everyone good luck and have fun! As Mills Lane would say: LET'S GET IT ON!!

Hosts: Barren, CT5Holy, gatebutser202, Corosar, Mudvayne, Andante49

Legend

Bold: Winner's Bracket Hosts
Italicized: Loser's Bracket Hosts
Underline: Picked out maps for the matches

Special notes: I checked and registered teams, fixed whatever was either illegal or changed unit(s) as per player's request. Mudvayne is on standby in case someone is not able to host.

EDIT(s): Fixed DomieV's paladins. Added classes to tourney players names as suggested by Gaignun. Fixed reinoe's ninja. Fixed Andante49's team to be legal. Fixed Mudvayne's samurai

FFT Arena / FFT Arena SCC Tourney Registration
« on: July 22, 2015, 09:36:15 PM »
Starting today I am accepting teams. The tournament will start in a couple of weeks so start building teams! PM me your team and I will check to see if there are legal.

As voted by you, the rules of this Single Class Challenge Tournament is as follows:

No JP Cap. Go nuts with the JP spending!
2 copies of an ability are allowed. Just like your typical Arena rules
Only 1 copy of an equipment is allowed. This encourages variety in items that is normally not used in typical AI tournaments
Mimes are banned due to glitches that can cause the game to crash

Also in thanks to Mudvayne's suggestion, if you have picked up to three classes then the RNG will be picked 1 -100. 1 - 33 being your primary choice, 34 - 66 being your second choice and 67 - 100 being your third choice. When I put up a stream Saturday (due to the website being down) I will be hosting the random drawing. If you haven't picked up to three classes yet post them in the SCC picks topic.

The Deadline will be August 10 11:59 PM EST

If anyone has any questions you can post here. Thank you and good luck!

FFT Arena / SCC Class picks
« on: July 21, 2015, 04:06:36 PM »
For those who want to enter the SCC Tournament coming up in a couple of weeks, I think we should have a rule implying that only 2 of the same class can be picked. For example 2 people can pick a team of monks or 2 people can pick a team of geomancers. You can still have the freedom to pick whats best for you. The reason being is that this would encourage to have players pick different classes for this tourney. If anyone has a problem or is skeptical about it please post your thoughts here and this can be resolved

FFT Arena / SCC Tourney anyone?
« on: July 21, 2015, 12:32:16 PM »
If anyone wants to see a SCC tourney sometime in August, I suppose we can do a quick one just for the fun of it. We won't need as many hosts as last time. And if so what kind of rules should we have?

Welcome to the FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 4. Quick run down on the rules: regular Arena rules are in effect here. Double elimination. You lose in the loser's bracket you are out. The winner's bracket and loser's bracket winner will meet for the title. Good luck to all players!

Note: For those who chose the purple palette, it is bugged because sometimes the glitched out crystals causes the game to crash. So I am changing it to black. Sorry to those who picked purple. Also Andante49 will be updating the brackets as the matches go by. So thank him too for helping out

FFT Arena / FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 4 Registration
« on: May 14, 2015, 09:55:07 AM »
Well its now time to start submitting your teams for the FFT Arena A.I. Tournament Season 4

As far as teams, for those who are submitting their teams for the tournament shall PM me your team and I will check to see if they are legal.

For those that don't know the rules are as follows:

RULES:
Teams will consist of 4 generic humans at Level 35, controlled by enemy AI routines.

Fury and Faith range is between 40 and 70. There is no minimum or maximum for Team Fury/Faith

Each unit has 3000 JP to spend on various abilities. It costs 250 JP to unlock ANY job.(includes Squire/Chemist) For example, to unlock Ninja, you only have to spend 250 JP(the 250 JP is lost forever). You do not need to unlock Squire/Knight/etc to unlock Ninja.

Only two units can buy any individual ability. Innates do not count towards this. (i.e. four units could have the Punch Art skillset, but only two could have purchased Earth Slash; conversely, you can have two Chemists and a Knight with Throw Item)

Only two units can equip any individual item.

The Deadline will be 6/10 at 11:59 PM EST. You can change your team anytime before registration is up. If you have any questions about the tournament please let me know. Thanks and good luck.

Also pending on how many people are going to enter the tournament I will need a volunteer or two to help me run the tournament and update the winner/loser bracket. If you do plan on helping I need you to be there throughout the whole tournament. I don't mind trading matches to cover for you if you have something going on, but please let me know in advance. I don't need tournament hosts bailing out on me during the thing like last time. Once again thank you all very much

As noted by silentkaster and Rouroni Elmdor, Gold Armor and Genji Shield are immune to dead but not death sentence. This can either potentially screw over the other team using death sentence or can prevent dead procs for being too much to overcome. So also please vote for either a ban or no ban on those items

FFT Arena / AI Tournament Summer 2015
« on: May 07, 2015, 07:31:48 PM »
Hey guys finals are over and I'd say we take out our stress and anxiety on the AI Tournament for the summer. Though really we should be hitting the beach and catching the waves. That aside, I will be putting up a poll about the rules for the tournament that everyone will be cool with. Everyone has about one week to decide since I don't think this should be that drawn out at all. So vote away!

Also to recap silentkaster's idea for tourney rules

Forced rule: Two sets of twins
Forced Rule: Team Battle...everyone makes two units. Randomly paired with another participant in Round Robin format. When only two participants remain, they must create two additional units to battle. Would be a point system.
Forced Rule: All units must be one class
Forced Rule: Straight character Challenge (no secondaries and all action/reaction/support/movement abilities on a unit can only be from that unit's class).
Forced Rule: All participants create a team normally. However, a fifth unit must be created. A random unit on each team will be replaced by the 5th unit everyone creates and it can appear on any team including the creator's (if they are randomly selected of course.)

News / FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 3 Registration
« on: June 28, 2014, 08:12:24 PM »
All right everyone its time to shed some blood once again. First and foremost I would like to thank Xifanie in advance for putting this topic in the news section so that way everyone can be aware of what's going on this summer so thank you very much. I also want to thank the community and everyone involved with Arena for playing this patch and having fun all the while. Today marks the first day of the FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 3 Registration.

There will be a winner's and loser's bracket with the number of matches dividend to the number of players to round out the field. Any volunteers to help me hosting this tournament are more than welcome. And also I will be checking for teams to make sure that they are within the rules posted below the last paragraph. Thanks again for participating in this tournament.

The deadline for registration will be July 23, 2014 11:59 PM EST. You can submit me your team via PM. Any questions about the rules free feel to ask. Even if its team suggestions everyone feel free to help out. Thank you again!

FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 3 Preview

Rules for this year's tournament

No JP Cap. Meaning you can go beyond 3000 JP regardless of what class you unlock

Only one copy of an ability is allowed. So no two of the same abilities from a skill set. However you can use different moves from the same skill set. For example, two units can have Snipe but one can have leg aim, hawk's eye and armor break while the other can have arm aim, seal evil and weapon break. And also innate abilities do count. For example you can have one ninja which has innate two swords and another unit with the two swords support ability but you can't have more than one ninja.

Only one copy of equips are allowed. So no 2x thief hat or 2x cursed ring. None of that! So pick carefully!!

FFT Arena / FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 2 Registration
« on: June 14, 2013, 11:05:39 AM »
The FFT Arena AI Tournament Season 2 registration is now open! The rules will be just like last season, there will be a winner's and loser's bracket. All the matches will be best 2 out of 3 except for the championship match which will be 3 out of 5.

The hosts so far are myself, CT5Holy, and Dokurider with Gaignun helping with the tournament brackets. We may need one more volunteer so that way we can get help for both brackets.

As far as teams, for those who are submitting their teams for the tournament shall PM me your team and I will check to see if they are legal.

For those that don't know the rules are as follows:

RULES:
Teams will consist of 4 generic humans at Level 35, controlled by enemy AI routines.

The deadline will be July 1, 2013 at midnight EST. So everyone has enough time to register for this tournament. If you have any questions please feel free to post here and someone here will be more than happy to help you. Thank you and good luck to you all!

FFT Arena / FFT Arena Tournament during the summer anyone?
« on: May 31, 2013, 01:01:26 PM »
Hello everyone, with the emergence of 1.39 coming up (hopefully soon) Eternal suggested that we should have a season 2 tournament during the summer. I can definitely play as host again if need be but I would definitely like some volunteers to help me out because hosting a tournament by yourself I can tell you for a fact is a pain.

If everyone is up for it, we can either give 1.38d one last hurrah or we'll use 1.39 when it comes out and display the new changes in our seasonal tournament. Definitely have your say if we should have a tournament this summer or wait longer for 1.39.

FFT Arena / FFT Arena Single Class Challenge AI Tournament
« on: December 21, 2012, 02:33:32 AM »
Thank you everyone for entering this unique tournament!

To go over some of the rules and regulations to help our viewers understand how this tournament works

1) All classes have to be the same (meaning 4 priests or 4 wizards etc) Secondary/Reaction/Support/Movement can be whatever you like

2) JP cap rules being 3000 or under still apply like a regular arena tournament match

3) This tournament will be contested in a Round Robin Challenge. The players are in 4 separate blocks so we have 4 blocks of 6. The winners of those 4 blocks will move on to the semi finals then the final round. The 4 block rounds, tie breaker round (if needed) and the semi finals will be 2 out of 3. The final round will be 3 out of 5

Now remember everyone: Know the AI, be the AI and kill everyone else! :D

With the mono tournament coming up soon, which maps do you think should be banned?

I'll provide a list of maps that Dokurider picked out and we can all decide from there
