I wish i could be more help, but i haven't gotten to that point in my mod yet, since its something small that wont happen until i right before i release a patch. My suggestion would be to go to the tutorials section of the forums and look around there:

also heres a link to the hacking/patching tools and such

http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?board=3.0

this was on the main page in tutorials so it might help

sorry i cant give a more definate answer, if you still have trouble figuring it out lemme know and ill do some more extensive searching for you. Best of luck on your mod :)

You don't want to edit Attack.out for the formation sprites/portraits. You need to edit Unit.bin and Wldface.bin. There is a handy little program called FFTEVGRP that helps you do this. There is a complete tutorial on how to do it here: http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6702.0

It's definitely not ATTACK.OUT.  The only thing ATTACK.OUT has to do with Portraits or Sprites of any kind is when you want to force a Portrait onto a unit, such as what happens with Lede and Miluda during battle.

I thought there were two assassin classes?

They share a sprite with one's portrait being forced through ATTACK.OUT, as memory serves.

If not, making them do so is incredibly easy if you needed to dodge under the sprite limit.  There's a bunch of unused Assassin sprites anyway, if I recall correctly.
