Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

oracle is definately better for that but what needs to be worked on is "ying-yang magic" i dont think that fits a status mage at all. but what could you rename it to?

I think... personally... the whole class is labeled wrong, an "Oracle" would be one who calls or predicts miracles, in which Oracles in FFT don't even pretend to do. It might be better to call them "Feng-Shui Mages" Or generic "Sage" though they certainly do not fit the traditional ephitet of a Sage in Final Fantasy... In any case, as well. A notorious misconception I've seen so far is that it is called "Ying-Yang Magic" When it is in fact simply called "Yin-Yang Magic" It seems to be a typical Taoist Mage from the way they make it sound. So "Sage", "Yin-Yang Mage", or "Feng-Shui Mage/Artist" would be completely acceptable.

Mmmmm...  Sage is delicious, I pick that one.  I always thought Oracle sounded off.

Why not Taoist or Tao Sage/Mage?

Hehe, well Taoism is a religion, just because one is a member of it, doesn't mean that he/she is a person with those kinds of abilities. Tao Mage, is an interesting alternative though. If the " X Mage" thought is still being used.

I vote "Onmyōji"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onmyoji

I believe this is what the class was based on.  Some fiction actually has them cause the good or bad fortune through magic, rather than simply predict it. Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikigami

QuoteYin-yang and the Five Elements, as well as the divisions of learning to which it was linked - astronomy, calendar-making, the reckoning of time, and divination, studies based on observation of nature

You're trying to reach way too far, there.

Nowhere does it say anything about manipluating time. Making calendars and knowing what time it is do not make a time mage.

Finishing the sentence you clipped off to try and make your point
Quote- were amalgamated into fortune-telling.

Please don't try to confuse the issue by selective editting.

I think oracle's fine. If we were going to change it to anything I'd want it to be green mage.

I think that the most important thing is that the Japanese name for the job actually IS onmyouji.

I think the most relevant thing in the article is that they were thought to be able to manipulate 'shikigami'. Shikigami are like minor deities or spirits... just like the ones that show up in their spells.

Since they call upon spirits, I think the best translation would have been 'shaman'. In my own hack I'm removing the spirits and calling them 'enchanters'.

Oh, and about Feng-shui Mage! That was used for another job in the japanese original.

Fuu-suishi:
fuu = wind.  sui = water.  shi = user/practitioner.
Common mis-translation is Wind/water User.

However, if you literally translate feng-shui it also means wind/water. I looked it up and fuu-sui is the Japanese form of feng-shui.

What is feng-shui or fuu-sui?
Feng-shui = Chinese geomancy.
Thus, Fuu-suishi = Geomancer.
In the original release of FFT that is the Elementalist.
