Problems with patching in general, halp!

Hey all,

I'm trying to patch vanilla FFT for use with ePSXe on Windows Vista.  I get a clean rip from the original disk and the rip plays fine on the emulator.  When I try to patch it (I've tried Mercenaries and FFT1.3, using a clean rip each time) all I get is a black screen when I try to run the patched .iso.

Thoughts? Thanks muchly.
