patching PSP with 1.3

So I got custom firmware and everything and I have some good knowledge about downloading games onto my PSP and running them properly

I tried ripping the legal copy of the ISO directly from my UMD and then patching it and it didn't work...

I tried stealing an illegal copy of the same ISO and patching it.. still didn't work.

Am I doing something wrong?
I really want 1.3 on my PSP. I don't give a jack about onion or dark knight. Just give me 1.3 or give me death!
