Well as promised I'm working on some ideas for female versions of the Red Mage and Blue Mage. The first Red Mage is decent looking, but is basically Meliadoul with a red hat so it isn't that original.

I think my favorite of the three is definitely the Blue Mage. She is a little bit too blue right now, but with changing her black skirt to a different color should redemy that. Any suggestions on color? My only other issue with her is that she looks more like a mage than a warrior mage, thoughts?

The last Red Mage was actually my starting idea, but she looks terrible. I really want the female Red Mage to be an armored badass, so I went with one armored and one unarmored arm. But she is just way to busy with different parts from too many people, and way too many colors. I still like the basic idea though, and I think if I get a different body and head for her that the cape and arms could still work well together. BTW only the center front shot is actually "complete". I also need help with the color of the armor. I'm looking for a good Bronze/Copper palette and haven't been able to find one yet. Right now I'm using the colors from Meliadoul arms, but if someone finds something better or is good at picking out colors that work with the FFT palette that would be helpful.

Aside from the mask, I like the blue mage.

Do you not like the idea of a mask, or do you just not like how it looks? I only like the mask because it makes the blue mage a little bit more individualized.

Who ever heard of a Blue Mage without the signature mask?
 *Looks at FFTA*

Well, that one doesn't count. Mask ftw~
I changed jobs and that has made all the difference.

I just don't like the look on that particular sprite.

You think I should be changing up the head, or that I need to rethink how I'm doing the mask? I'm open to any suggestions, I'm just tinkering right now.

No, I like Balma's head, but the mask is awkward, but I think it has to do with the mask covering up her front bangs.  I understand that you only have a range of about three pixels for a mask, so options are limited.  I'll give it a crack and see what I can come up with.

I edited the mask so it didn't cover her bangs, took it off the jaw, and darkened her skin.  Also her eyes were blue-green which kind of conflicted with the mask so I made them black.

I think it might need an accent of a different color somewhere, to offset all the blue.

How about a mask that covers her mouth? like in the Ninja Sprite.

I'd like to see that too.

Those touchups are good Kuraudo. I didn't even realize I had painted over her bangs, and I'm far from firm on the eye color so I will try out the black.

I will give a mouth covering a try, but I still like the idea of the mask just because it is more distinctive.

Oh and Karsten I didn't do that male Blue Mage from way back when. I don't know who's that is.

Okay here is a finished version of the female Blue Mage. I haven't tried doing a face scarf yet, I just wanted to get this one out so people could try her out. Hopefully this is in a better format to insert into an spr. I still don't have the capability to do that so if anyone is willing to do that and post it that would be great.

She looks pretty good overall, probably needs some adjustments on her mask after I see it in action. My big concern is about her attack animations. There was a big different in where the two bodies I was using lined up, and I'm afraid that when she attacks her arms are going to be attached. But it will be easy to fix with a little testing.

Hey Zodiac are you able to post this as an SPR file? I will be happy to make any adjustments you need to it. I still just can't get Melonhead's program to open on my computers yet.

Well, for starters you haven't stuck a palette on at all, as this is a 24 bit Bitmap, though you do seem to have stuck to 16 colours (including the white background).

What you need to do is set up the palette like a regular sprite and save it as a 256 colour bitmap.

Unrelated, here's my Red Mage. It's still somewhat of a work in progress, as I'm too lazy to make a portrait, but I've been kinda busy.

Is pure black the correct color to have as transparent on these bmps instead of white? I don't know how to mess with the palette, I'm just trying to save them as 16 bit bmps through Photoshop. Apparently that isn't doing the trick. You have any suggestions of programs to help me with this as a Mac user?

Kyari hav you made any additions or adjustments to your Female Red Mage since the last time you posted a pic of it here? The portraits are a real pain to get looking good.

I changed the palettes so they worked ingame, but appart from that no.

And basically the transparency colour is whatever you have set as the first colour in each row (1/16/32/48/64)

I have no idea what you can use on Mac, but I would have imagined Photoshop has palette editing support.

Okay, your sprite was too small by a few pixels either side, but I've resized the canvas and messed about with the palette to get it at least running ingame. It maye need to be moved over to the left slightly though now that I've seen it.

Here is my celestial warrior's portrait.

If you feel there's anything wrong with it, please mention it.

It takes me about 3 days after working on something to criticize my own work. >_>'

I just ask a constructive feedback whether it is positive or negative.
