Title: Ramza mother !?
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 02:52:04 am
hey, anybody now the story about Ramza mother ?
Cuz, I just wanna know....

Lady Ruglia, apparently she wasn't married to Balbanes, since she had Ramza and Alma out of wedlock, (at least Ramza). She was of common birth, and just a concubine of Balbanes. She died before the game begins, but she apparently told Ramza not to try too hard to live up to the Beoulve name. That's really all that's known about her.

where do you get the information ?

The game. Ramza in the second chapter calls himself Ramza Ruglia until Gafgarion blows his cover, according to the game the name is his mother's maiden name, so it is hinted that she did marry before Alma was born, at least. The brave story says this all.

She was of common birth "Bad blood is bad blood after all!" Zalbag yells at Ramza in terms of his birthright.

She was a concubine "Very well done even if you are the son of a consort, you have the blood of a Beoulve." Cardinal Delacroix says in WoTL.

Died before the game begins, well... we never hear of her, that's for sure.

And finally, Alma's remark "You're the one trying to hard to live up to their expectation" Ramza replies " You sound like our mother, ha, ha, ha.". That's all we know of Lady Ruglia.

Oh, thanks for the information. I need this too for my blog.

"Unparalleled knowledge" LD you might have some competition from me (not really) in that department cause I make knowing the story of this game inside and out the inner essence of what my memory is allowed to store. Lol but yea like he says we don't learn more about here than those little tidbits in the Zodiac Story and and lines in the story. I would be nice to have a sprite for her based lightly on Alma as I would like to take the info we have and make a patch of the 50 year war.

Well great to see another one who can appreciate the story! Personally my least favorite character in the PSX version is Balk, but the PSP version really gives him much more character for his still, very few lines.

Indeed but my least favorite character in the PSX version was was Rofel as he seemed like too much of a lackey for my tastes. In the PSX I kinda despised the concept of Luso as he was a Ramza clone at best, a custom skill set would have been nice. At least they tried with Balthier even though barrage was the only move that made him stand out.

Well Rofel was just... a lackey, but at least he's shown to be the brains behind the brawn, he's the clever diplomat, with a silk tongue, (if only his battle displayed this a bit more.)

Kletian was the arrogant youth straight out of Gariland, graduated at the top of his class, and felt it was a gift to become a Shrine Knight. His PSP battle shows before he turned into a complete jerk (Read... Demon?) Meliadoul and him were at least on a bit more then a friendly basis..

A few things I'd like to point out.

I don't remember "Ruglia" being mentioned as her maiden name in the PSX version. And in the WOTL, Lugria is said to be her family name. They never really mention her being married.

Delacroix's line in WOTL is also a bit different than what you posted.

"I see Gaffgarion's sword was no match for his words. Then again, perhaps the fault lies with his adversary. Beoulve blood is not given to spill easily. Even when thinned with that of a courtesan, it would seem."

Finally, in Ch. 1, Ramza is called the "issue of his father's paramour" in the Chronicles. All of those suggest that she was his father's mistress.

Indeed I like the PSP scene between Wiegraf and Rofel cause it does show his clever uses of words more than the simple scene with Dycedarg in the PSX. Also that battle against Kletian does show a bit more that you didn't get so I think those where less story components and more of developing the characters for the players enjoyment.

@Dom it does mention Ruglia in the PSX version you may want to replay cause it's only in the chronicles for a short while so it's hard to catch. Also these are a good deal of assumption as very little is actually blatantly stated.

Balthier is good for more than just Barrage though. His Plunder skills all have a higher success rate than Steal. He's as fast as a Ninja, but with better overall stats. And he has one of the widest choices of equipment in the game.

He's one of the most versatile units you can get.

I never said anything bad about him though he is my goto guy. How did you train him? my Balthier was 1.5 times faster than my ninjas with a max speed of 27(In vanilla of course).

I'm looking at the PSX Game Script section with the Brave Story entries and I see no mention of Ruglia being his mother's family name. It just says that he changed his name to distance himself from the Beoulve family.

Are you positive cause I could pull up a game save and get my own evidence quickly.......but I can't post it as it's on an actual mem card :(.

I was responding to where you said only Barrage makes him stand out.

Anyways, I dabbled him in everything. I usually rotated him between doing three things though.

- Jumping on enemies
- Melee
- Gunslinging

Yup, he is one ridiculously powerful unit.

PSX Game Script (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197339/14169)

I may not be remembering it and this script may have missed it, but I doubt it. There's even lines in here that I was never aware of (I didn't know that there were more line in the battle with Queklain for example).
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on December 28, 2008, 02:09:58 pm
He's right, but I don't believe it's an embellishment of the PSP script, but something missed out by our translators. The name Ruglia is used though for Ramza in the second chapter, though the PSX might not give a name to where this comes from the PSP correctly translated certainly does.

Ramza Ruglia (Age: 17)
------------
Fencer of mercenary group led by Gafgarion and became a
mercenary after the tragedy at Fort Zeakden. He changed his
name to distance himself from the Beoulve family as Gafgarion
is the only person that is aware of this. Fights in search of
life.

I checked and you were right Dom it says he took the name Ruglia from his mother in the PSP version but for some reason my memory wants to say that line is in the PSX version somewhere.

EDIT: Ruglia and Lugria would be spelled the same in romanji anyways so the translator would have had a hard time figuring which one to use.

EDIT2:I like Ruglia better anyways as Lugria sounds like a more noble name to me.
Title:
Post by: Dominic NY18 on December 28, 2008, 02:19:30 pm
Meh. Lugria sounds better to me.

How FFTA2? I'm tempted to try it, but the thought of stat growth mattering so much bothers me.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 02:20:48 pm
Meh some of the battle are sandbag fests but other than that it's pretty good. Luso makes a fine main character.
Title:
Post by: Dominic NY18 on December 28, 2008, 02:24:34 pm
Difficulty? Does stat growth matter a great deal?

I have to stop trying to play so many games at once...
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 03:54:35 pm
It is mildly difficult and I haven't been doing any stat growth control as it's the the story I really want not the effectiveness.

I'll probably check it out then. I already downloaded it, but just never got around it playing it.

hmm... I like this game, so secret and very very very very very long.... story......
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 06:06:54 pm
The story isn't so long as intricate.
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 06:12:04 pm
yeah, Maybe not long.... But, I'm talk about all game in Ivalice world. do you know the story about St.Ajora ?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 06:14:07 pm
I know the story inside and out.  Also not all of the Ivalice story are tied together tightly but hopefully the new Ivalice  Alliance games will bring the stories together.
Title:

Yeah, I'm waiting for that....
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 06:25:15 pm
It will take a while cause it takes a few months just to program a simple game and they have to do a complex one with a good story and backstory. Which is funny as the worst games are the ones without a backstory.

the site have all story about FFT.

I know and it rarely tell me something I didn't already know.

EDIT: For instance did you know that before you fight Elmdor again he officially dies in battle with the Hokuten but the stone revives him.
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 07:01:38 pm
but, I can't find story about Ramza mother in there.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 07:03:55 pm
That's because there was no official backstory on her. If you want go to a fanfic site and you may find something but if LD or I don't know you won't find the info anywhere but the mind of the writer of the original story.
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 07:07:38 pm
do you know what is Celia and Lade ? she is a demon ?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 07:09:23 pm
Yes they were both Ultima demons (hint the fact they cast ultima) who where there to help Elmdor probably cause Zalera was not a totally offensive character and they figured he needed backup.
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 07:12:12 pm
Yeah, I don't know her age...
Title:

Lede was 22 or so and Celia 33 I think.
Title:

wait a minute.... maybe we can see in FFTPatcher in ENTD...
Title:
Post by: LastingDawn on December 28, 2008, 07:23:40 pm
Age... is never calculated in battle, also I think your ages are a bit off, DarthPaul, I think Celia is listed at... 19? And Lede at 27.
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 07:28:27 pm
yeah, you right.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 08:59:31 pm
Possibly I mess up the ages for certain characters.

EDIT: I was a little off but it was Lede 23? Celia 31?. For Algus the question marks are because they don't have a backstory at all.
Title:

I wish squaresoft will be release FFT in 2009.

Why rerelease a rerelease?
Title:
Post by: Algus on December 28, 2008, 10:23:53 pm
The Information In bravestory is not complete or not perfect. I can't find story about Ramza mother, Lade, Celia, and before princess Ovelia (the real princess)
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on December 28, 2008, 10:25:09 pm
That's because the info is irrelevant to the rest of the story.  As you will notice all the info you receive is relevant to some aspect of the main story.
Title:

Yeah I know, and I hope FFT have a movie too (not in PSP, in CD or DVD)
