Shading is pretty good. Hair could show a bit more definition...

I have no criticism otherwise. If this is your first time painting, then it's a good start~

FFT Arena / Re: Arena battle videos and discussion

And I have a new team!

As the tourney is going on, I won't ask for a test, but if someone can I'd be grateful.

And I -should- be able to record matches sooner or later.

FFT Arena Season 3 AI Tournament Loser's Bracket Match 25 - Zotis vs DomieV

As you'd stated in-match, Barren

That was a complete reversal of what happened before.

Just to let everyone know that I just spoke to Zotis and he told me that he can no longer assume the responsibility to upload anymore of the loser bracket matches. I will get started on the rest of round 2 loser's bracket tomorrow because I got one more long day of work today. If anyone want to help out amd take over for zotis let me know please. Thanks everyone for your patience and sorry for any further delays

And if anyone wants you can commentate some of the loser's bracket with me (if you have a skype account). Figured it would be cool :D

I'd love to co-commentate (I have to limit my internet usage too much to reliably upload things like videos)

The mere thought of it made me nervous, but hey.

*EDIT: Forgot to mention, but because of my still-no-job status, I'm available at all hours to do so.

As a side note, if you disappear again, The Damned, I will be very sad. I appreciate and enjoy reading your thoughtful commentary.

Funny, as he pointed me out in particular when he mentioned them before.

Actually, I get a bit... Fanatical, after a few matches have been posted. I'll refresh over and over waiting for them.

You might think I am kidding you. I am not.

I don't feel that I would have won this as apparently as I had, had your units not continually lined up for all of that AoE

Dancer proves her derpiness and awkward speed messes up her jumping, but that's not a complete deal breaker. Still, you had me VERY nervous here.

GG, Vigilanti! I hate to see you go

(I loathe doubling posting, but I have "no" choice.)

Thanks for getting the matches out of the way quickly, TrueLight. It was nice to have my ass kicked to Guilty Gear's older OST at least, though I must admit my surprised to not hear anything from Xrd; that's probably just because I listened to it rather recently.

Anyway, as my thanks, I did something that I had intended to do a while ago and did the list of Active Abilities for you. I decided to be detailed about it given that I wasn't doing anything more productive anyway, so I listed everyone's names that used the ability in addition to the number of course. The first set of parentheses indicates the person used the ability as part of a unit's Primary and the second set of parentheses indicates the person used the ability as part of a unit's Secondary. I didn't bother making another set of parentheses for the few people who had duplicate skills sets on a team, like silentkaster having two Archers, though I was tempted to. (Eternal's name is in brackets twice under Basic Skill because those are skills his Squire was "supposed" to have, but that Barren never got around to fixing apparently, at least on the first page list.)

Needless to say, this took a while and Item was especially fucking annoying, excuse my (constant) profanity. (Numbered EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if I screwed up the numbers on some of these, especially since I apparently left the numbers off a few of them entirely.)

Bleh. Cursed Ring. I honestly completely forgot that Fenire's had it the first round given that Regen covered it up. I'm just so sick of seeing that thing, especially since I'm at least partly if not primarily to blame for getting it buffed to this point in the first place after how much it sucked originally. Sigh.

It totally looked like Eternal was going to win the first match too until the Undead Archer popped back up, even though Eternal got quite unlucky with Dragon Spirit in that round; the one time it did go off was in the second round where it didn't help at all.

Oh well. Eternal's team put up a valiant effort, especially for how "bizarre" it was. I see that Marche got fixed to at least have Bullrush and Throw Stone so he would use Quickening given that stupid ability is most of what he was using this match. Still, at least that got fixed before his elmination. So thanks for that too TrueLight.

...Why do Cover Fire and Ninjutsu trigger Faith Up? I guess that thing really does still tend to erroneously trigger off anything with that uses MP like it did in vanilla. I had forgotten that particular "error" though. Similarly I'm not used to seeing any of the Ninjutsu get Counter Magic'd, partly because Counter Magic is so rare and partly because people just tend to (ab)use Kagesougi when it comes Ninjutsu and nothing else.

I am, unfortunately, quite used to Consecration sucking for how expensive it is though. The second round at least had a pretty showy instance of it with the Paladin flying all the way to the top of the arch just to use it. There was still no substance to that flash, of course, given he missed, but it's the thought that counts I suppose.

Anyway, the first round could basically be summed up as whitebox being unable to sandbag in the face of gunfire, getting relatively unlucky with the damage on Cover Fire and getting distracted by the Undead Monk too much. The second round is kind of the same thing, except that whitebox didn't get as unlucky with anything save for still not being able to avoid Secret Fist. Well that and the Priest leading off with Protect 2, which is extremely effective against whitebox's team, over Shell 2. Given she used Protect 2 first twice, I have to think that the A.I. maybe really does go in list order, meaning that the Protects take slight priority over the Shells if you have both skills unless some MA-based attack is charging.

Regardless, Cursed Ring yet again rears its ugly head, though in a far more passive way than in the match just before this. This makes me rather glad at least Phoenix Blade is dying since it effectively does the same obnoxious thing.

Fortunately Dragonblade's team can deal with the Undead quite handily in theory and I was rooting for him anyway. Unfortunately, he is going against Reks, who I also rather would not see eliminated this early, and is using a Cursed Ring himself because you can't really fight it without using it, just like Quickening unfortunately.

Getting on to the actual match, I'm surprised that the Dancer got hit with Seal Evil and didn't get immediately healed in the first round. Then again, the only person on Reks's team who can deal with Petrify status is the Priest, who basically got hit by Sleep shortly after. I'm unsure why she felt the need to go for a non-lethal Cure 4 on the Undead Archer, however, instead of an Esuna on her own Dancer in the first place, even with if it did send the Archer into Critical.

Equally weird to see the Sleep spell actually be key to victory in the first round since A.I. usually screws it up even when it does hit and Mimic Daravon tends to outclass it as such. Still, it put the Priest and the Samurai to sleep in one go and the Samurai is easily the most damaging units on Reks's team. After that, the Squire, for all this dodging, couldn't really do a damn thing in the first round.

The Squire was similarly ineffective in the second round even though Reks's team won that due to the Samurai and the Priest staying up. The Squire got hit by a 36% Zombie and then got hit by an about 65% Raise 2 shortly there after. Poor guy. It's even more humorous given that shortly after that, the Dancer causally dodges the Consecration thrown at her even though it came at 87%. I swear, Consecration is like one of those useless wedding-related--but I repeat myself--items: far too expensive for the singular, non-guaranteed use it purports to wastefully serve.

The third round, though, had Squire arguably make the difference just because Charm can be so strong at times. Not that Reks's team wasn't dominating the round before that given the Dancer finally got some extremely high-damaging Jumps off. It also helped Reks immensely that Dragonblade's team had little choice but to waltz into the Samurai's overpowered AoE due to the funnel that map has on the bridge and how the A.I. (blindly) functions. Hell, Reks won the third round so quickly that the Undead Archer didn't even have a chance to get back up.

I'll admit that I'm slightly surprised to see Reks win since I thought Dragonblade was slightly favored just due to all the anti-Undead stuff he has. Mind you, I'm glad to see Reks win. I just find it both slightly amusing and exasperated that both of the teams that Dragonblade lost had Undead units on them. It's unfortunate to see one of the more varied teams go, especially so early in the tournament.

Honestly, I'm surprised that I held out for so long, especially given how horrible most of my healing actually is. It was pretty obvious that Vigilanti was going to beat me, but I certainly didn't it expect it to be this close. I was helped out a lot by Death Sentence not being formally canceled by Reraise and vice versa and his A.I. being dumb about some things. I was helped quite a bit by the Geomancer getting Slept so early on in the first round since she's the most dangerous unit on his team.

I might have even actually won given how long I held out if my team could do any damn damage. Not sure why I keep making teams that rely so heavily on luck when my luck is so notoriously bad; I think I have complexity addiction like some bad Saturday morning cartoon villain. The same goes for making too many teams with Sing on them just because I can, as tempting as it is; hell, all of the new teams I just made had Sing them without consciously realizing it--gonna change that within the next few hours.

I've also certainly had more humilating defeats to less well-made teams to music that wasn't (mostly) from Guilty Gear. So I'm fine with this loss, especially since Vigilanti's team isn't using bog standard stuff and he's the only person using Defender or Ultima, both of which worked out quite well for him. This even if my own Insult and Holy worked out for the Paladin and the Squire better overall.

Speaking of Monks being stupid with Insult yet again, we both got surprisingly lucky with Talk Skill. Pretty much every instance of Talk Skill hit except for the opening Mimic Daravon in the second round, which probably would have only delayed the inevitable.

Oh well. As crappy as my team is, it at least got to show how powerful Sleep can be in its Losers matches. I still wonder what the best way to fix this team would be. Hmmm....

Regardless, well met, Vigilanti. Thank you for ending me. Shame it couldn't have been before I beat Asakawa, but I suppose it's nice to not have the team be a complete failure, even if I still feel a bit guilty about lucking out so hard against her.

I read a lot of books and TV Tropes, so reading longer posts and descriptions is nothing to me :P

Plus, you ARE the one who takes the most time and thought to write these. I love reading them and appreciate you for that.

Thinking of streaming Winner's Round 3 Matches 25 (Leif1991 vs Mallen) and 26 (Zotis vs Barren) sometime this week. Possible times are:

Whenever on Wednesday
Possibly whenever on Thursday
Start time around or before 4 pm PDT/7 pm EDT on Friday

What works best for people?

Not sure. My internet -hates- streams, so I'll have to wait until you put them up.

Good luck with it, though

Ugh. First a bunch of spiders in my room and now a bunch of damn ants in my bathroom. This week has certainly been...annoying.

That said, I'm caught up on the one bright spot of it, so I'll just put my comments on the forum. First and foremost, thanks as always for the videos, Barren.

Next, forgive me if my rambling is slightly more off than usual between my having watched the first two rounds a couple of days ago when they went up and being slightly more tired than usual as I type this.

Hunh. I hadn't realized that Vigilanti is also the person to be using the only Knight's Sword in this tournament. That Paladin looks rather...problematic just on a defensive evasion level.

That said, sir knight sure didn't really do much of anything but support given all the damage that all the other units were doing, even if he did manage to off the Undead Ninja in round 1 after the doomed guy got Don't Acted. The Paladin didn't even bother Jump once given he was basically otherwise always busy healing, though that's not necessarily a bad thing outside of Transfusion sort of bleeding him dry.

As for everyone else, they tried their best to break each others' faces. Well, aside from Potz, who was of course mostly just support and got screwed over early in two rounds anyway. As far as damage goes, I must admit that I was only really surprised by how much damage Shinobi was doing with Meiton given everyone on Vigilanti has average (55) or more Faith. He was even doing quite a bit of damage to Ayase the Squire, though I only just recently realized that they have Best compatibility, so that's a large part of it.

As far as rounds, well, the first, small map could have gone either way in my opinion since they both have heavily damaging Samurai. Vigilanti just got rather fortunate off the bat with that Death Sentence and it just kinda steamrolled from there.

The second map was more predictable since it makes sense that Angelus has at least the slight advantage on longer maps between having a gunner, Lich, Kikuichimoji and an Undead Ninja. Still, it was rather close for most of that match.

The third map though...that was pretty much just decided by everyone "smartly" lining up to get hit by Kikuichimoji followed by that beautiful Ultima. I swear, it's like someone always gets utterly destroyed on that Dorter map.

To be blunt, Winterfractal's team is heavily flawed on quite a few fronts, though I've certainly made (many) worse teams myself. Besides the unnecessarily high faith as pointed out by Barren and the typical problems with Stone Gun's user potentially not being healed, especially if there's only one Petrify-healer on the team, his (?) team's offense is almost entirely based on projectiles. Even with Projectile Guard being limited to one unit, he can easily be screwed over it i if--well, more like when--his non-Priest units choose to focus on it.

This is basically part of what doomed him in the second round given that while using projectile weapons, the AI seems to have a weird tendency to focus on the Projectile Guard unit, especially if it's the unit with lowest HP or simply, unfortunately the nearest. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have screwed around even more and made an all-Bow team--no guns--myself.

Leif1991 getting rather fortunate with the Repel Knife procs--nice to see more confirmation that it's working as it should--didn't help Winterfractal either.

That said, for all its flaws, Winterfractal's team should do at least slightly better against Angelus's team in "the underworld" for the simple fact that no one Angelus's team has projectile guard. Stone Gun does still hurt quite a bit when it gets to go off and, on top of that, Winterfractal's weirdly high team Faith makes Meiton a lot less valuable in that match-up.

I'll admit that I'm a bit surprised that Reks won here, if only because he tends to have bad luck and got utterly mauled that first match. Well, that and I was surprised by just how much the once-crappy Don't Move spell determined the difference in that very close final round. This especially since Luke the Squire wasn't achieving his goal of Don't Move (or much else) half of the time.

Speaking of Luke, I find it extremely odd that he kept going for the risky Steal Heart rather than the sure Throw Stone. Then again, even with its CT nerf from a while ago, I'm pretty sure that AI still realizes how potentially powerful Charm be. Well, at least if the Charmed unit doesn't have Esuna or Stigma Magic and nothing pressing that it feels like it has to do.

Regardless, it was a valiant effort by Shadowstrike's team, which I think is more than decently made for the most part, though Snipe on the Monk seems...kinda worthless to be honest. Oh well. Maybe that will prove a worthwhile choice in the Underworld against Redworld.

This was rather painful to watch, though that's not because RedWorld's team is poorly made or anything. It was painful partly because most of Mallen's team hits really hard, partly because it got dragged out by all the revival RedWorld's team has and partly because it likely calls forward what's going to happen to my team versus spacetyphoon. The latter especially since I have less damaging offense, especially a range, than RedWorld and that didn't help her (?) much, though she was stuck in rez loops for most of the match, so....

Then again, it's always painful to see someone fight a clearly losing struggle against the poison of alcohol. Also not looking forward to my Oracle doing the same stupid thing with Paralyzing a Sleeping target rather than trying to Petrify it.

Despite this going the way I thought it would from the outset, there were a few surprising things here. I'm surprised that Blind Rage didn't get a chance to horrifically backfire in the first round. I'm surprised that Wiznaibus was actually kind useful, if only because Poison so utterly screws over mages. And I'm surprised that Rosario the Mediator used the correct barrier in the second round. I have to wonder if the A.I. picked Protect 2 on a whim or just because Protect 2 comes before Shell 2 in the ability list. It's still such a shame that AI is rather blind to playing appropriate defense with the respective barriers since it still clearly can't see ahead with regards to anything that isn't on the CT list or base weapon range.

All that said, RedWorld's match against Shadowstrike should be much closer than this was rather than "just" prolonged. [/spolier]

Also, it might just be me, but I was assuming that RedWorld's Oracle name's "Chelle" was just pronounced like "shell". Essentially "Michelle" without the "mi".

Shrug.

P.S. Please save me from Bug types. Where art thou, Chandelure?

P.P.S. Not sure why I suddenly can't have this outside of spoilers. Hmmm.....

I missed your longer takes and opinion on matches. I look forward to them, actually.

Took a while to get my words together for this

If my previous post was any notification, I was extremely nervous about this match.

Looking at Shadow's team before, just about all of his units could bypass Luke's evasion, I'd figured that Azra would easily be downed without doing much, and I didn't think that Cynthia and Reksalya (pronounced Reks-al-Yuh) would do so well.

The first match proved that they'll do poorly when placed too close to the opponent with no obstructions, but the larger maps grant more room to play with, and it's in those that I believe I have an advantage in.

That third match was -the- reason I participate in ARENA: Fast, hectic, back and forth, and you just do not know who will win. Barren even sounded excited for it!

So GG, Shadowstrike! I hope you can do well in the Netherworld!

*looks at his next opponent* *gulps*

Thanks Zotis, I feel that having background music that fits in makes the video that much more enjoyable. I'll try to get more on tonight if not tomorrow

Ohcrapohcrapohcrap

I mean, I'm looking forward to it!

To avoid spoilers: I saw the match before it was posted here. Do not read if you haven't seen it yet.
What a match! I don't feel that I have too much to say, though that last round was excellent. Double kill Ultima, and Holy did exactly enough damage to take out the Chemist! GG Angelus and Vigilanti!

Knowing my own luck and the RNG, I won't go too far, but good luck to everyone indeed!~

And as Miss Celdie wishes, I'm hoping for a match against you too~

Actually just last minute we have 32 entrees. I just have to check them all then we are all set

EDIT: We all have assembled a 32 player roster for this tourney. CT5Holy, Zotis and TrueLight since you guys said you'd help out I'll PM you guys this week to go over who can cover what. Until then, thanks very much!

I sincerely do wish my internet wasn't Hughsnet.

I'd be able to help otherwise, but a preemptive thanks to anyone who records.

Looking forward to literally everything, and good luck, everybody!

Finally got around to making my team.

I'm probably gonna die, but at least they'll hit hard.

Submitted. Hope I'm not too late. Damn my work schedule.

Nah, Barren had given us a few more days for things like this. Also because not so many HAD submitted teams.

Speaking of, I pulled a derp and wasn't able to yesterday because of an all-nighter. I'll get to it tonight, or so I hope.
