Any tips on spriting?

Programs to use?
Limitations?

Basically I'm new to spriting, have a little ASM experience. I suck at drawing and have little artistic vision but want to make a personal sprite/portrait but have no clue where to start. So are there any tips?

Dude! Didn't you even try reading anything on here? There are like tons of tutorials, plus the download section is a good place to look for tools. I'd also like to add on the list since no one ever does the program Photoshop. Get that for spriting.
There ain't no gettin' offa this train we on!

MS Paint, an attention to detail, and a willingness to take criticism are the three greatest tools a spriter needs. I'd also suggest cutting and pasting pieces from existing sprites.

Limitations: well, only 16 colors per sprite (including the transparent background) and size limitations are two big hurdles.

Welcome, and good luck.
