Title: Final Fantasy Tactics has two disks!?
Post by: Cheetah on September 08, 2008, 07:08:36 pm
So I was wondering if there was ever a demo of FFT released in the US or Japan? If you know the answer that would be great, because it could be a useful resource. But while searching I ran into an interesting piece of info:

#  SCUS-94221 : Final Fantasy Tactics
# SCPS-45087 : Final Fantasy Tactics [Disc1of2]
# SLPS-00770 : Final Fantasy Tactics [Disc1of2]
# SCPS-45088 : Final Fantasy Tactics [Disc2of2]
# SLPS-00771 : Final Fantasy Tactics [Disc2of2]
# SLPS-91435 : Final Fantasy Tactics [PSone Books]
# SLPS-02768 : Final Fantasy Tactics [Squaresoft Millennium Collection]

This is from the official list of all Sony Playstation games released with their serial numbers. The first one is the us version of the game. But why oh why do some of the other versions have 2 discs? I search around on the net for a while trying to find the answer, but with no luck. Please help me out with this, it probably isn't anything incredible but it might be interesting.

If people didn't realize this all related to the original Japanese release. Unsuprisingly I suppose I found the answer on GameFAQS in a manual translation before the game was released in the US.

"    This product comes with Disc 1 (Final Fantasy Tactics) and Disc 2 (S=
quare Previews 2).  Please set Disc 1 when you want to play Final Fantasy=
Tactics.  Again, the saved data for the prototype version of Saga Fronti=
er on Disc 2 cannot be used for Final Fantasy Tactics."

But I still want to know if there was ever a demo of FFT!

UPDATE:
I'm getting closer!

Okay solution to the question of whether there is a FFT demo in existance or not. The answer seems to be NO. The only thing I have found is a pretty cool early preview video of the game. With different beta maps, slightly different sprites, odd looking portraits, and a few rough spells. I believe I found the ISO with the original video so I will see if I can get it going and take some good screen shots!

UPDATE: I'm basically just talking outloud right now but "GHERRR" it downloaded but isn't working quite yet. I still have good options though.

LD: I mean that I think I have found the demo disc with the video preview of FFT that shows those things. But I am still working on getting it working. I don't want to point anyone to a dead end so I'm still looking into it.

Ah, just the demo disk with the video then? If I'm understanding it right.

Well I have spent practically all day on this shit and just haven't gotten much of anywhere. Here is a site where you might be able to download the different "Square's Preview" discs. Apparently the first one is the one with the video of the early FFT. They download in a .tar and then a .7z format and I just can't get them into anything that is running, so good luck to someone else.

If you still want to run that image file you can upack the .bin.ecm file with the unecm command line program.

Yeah that is the video Pixy. I feeling more and more like it isn't worth it.

Thanks for the heads up Nexus, have you gotten the first Square Preview to work? I can't get it to even unzip, but I have gotten another one to the point of needing to uncompressed from ecm (too many fucking compressions gherrr). I don't know how to use command lines though, but I will give it a try.

I got it to work using WinRAR, UNECM, and pSX. The video is the exact same as the one Pixy posted.

I have an original Square's Preview CD that came bundled in with the Japanese version of FFT for PSX, if there is any way it could help.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I have it figured out. I was hoping to find a demo of FFT somewhere, but I don't think there was any official releases. Unless you are able to dig up some additional info about some copy of a beta version of the game on Japanese sites.
