Hey everyone @ ffthacktics! I'm very new here (check my post count :|), so I'd like to introduce myself before I begin. The name's Durbs. James Durbs.  :more: (not really; please excuse my pathetic attempts at humor).

Getting started, a few of you have seen me around at chat, and those that have know that I'd really like to put in some custom sprites. I'm no stranger to Tactics (I've wanted a gameshark for years to fish out those NPCs), and I'd love to learn how to go even further. I recently got my epsxe emulator, and am working on turning my scratched fft disk into an iso. Once I accomplish that, however, I was wondering if someone could walk me through, step by step, on how to insert a custom sprite both in battle and formation from this site (not quite ready to make my own just yet). I've downloaded all of the necessary files, including the huge FFT Patcher download and CDMage, as well as FFTastic. Now, let's say I want to make Purple Mystery my second slot, give him a magic command, and holy sword. How do I do it?

Hello there,Durbs!

You need:
Custom sprite(*.spr)
Shishi Sprite Editor
FFTEVGRP
CDMage
GraphicsGale

Shishi Sprite Editor:File->Open Iso...->Choose your ISO image of game(or BIN).
Shishi Sprite Editor:Select sprite to replace9for example,male Bard).
FFHacktics site:look for the type of the sprite on the site(TYPE1,TYPE2,MON or whatever).
Shishi Sprite Editor:change sprite type to match the one written on the site-for example,Bard is Type 2,so,if you need Type 1-change it in the right lower corner.
Shishi Sprite Editor:Sprite->Import SPR...->Choose your custom sprite.
That's for the in-battle sprite.

For the world sprite.
CDMage:File->Open->Your ISO->Choose "Raw Image",save .cue file,answer Yes.
CDMage:Go to EVENT folder->Right-click UNIT.BIN->export it.
CDMage:Right-click WLDFACE.BIN->export it.
Shishi:Sprite->Export BMP...->Save BMP anywhere.
Graphics Gale:Open BMP
Graphics Gale:Select desired image to be world sprite for unit. Remember,this image should be 24x40 pixels!
Graphics Gale:Create new 24x40 bmp file,paste.
Graphics Gale:All Frames ->Color Depth ->Set to 4bpp(16 colors)->ok
Graphics Gale:Save world.BMP.
Shishi: Select your custom sprite. Printscreen it.
Graphics Gale:Paste printscreen.
Graphics Gale:select portrait. Remember,it must be 48x32 pixels!
Graphics Gale:Create 32x48 image.
Graphics Gale:Paste your portrait,turn counter-clockwise.
Graphics Gale:All Frames ->Color Depth ->Set to 4bpp(16 colors)->ok
Graphics Gale:Save portrait.BMP
FFTEVGRP:File->Open->UNIT.BIN->Select your saved UNIT.BIN
FFTEVGRP:File->Open->WLDFACE.BIN->Select your saved UNIT.BIN
FFTEVGRP:UNIT.BIN->Import BMP...->Choose world.BMP->Save file
FFTEVGRP:WLDFACE.BIN->Import BMP...->Choose portrait.BMP->Save file
CDMage:Choose UNIT.BIN->Import->Choose your modified UNIT.BIN
CDMage:Choose WLDFACE.BIN->Import->Choose your modified WLDFACE.BIN
CDMage:Click save.
Then load your game and enjoy!

But my description sucks dinosaur balls.

Thanks for the help, although frankly now I have no idea if I'll be able to use all this since I can't get my darn iso to work. Thanks, though.
