1. Come up with an awesome idea. It can be vague, you'll fix that l8r.
2. Come up with a cool name.
2. Assemble your ideas by posting in a forum.
2. In the rare event that someone has a better idea than you, add that into the patch.
2. Find out what new game mechanics you might need, and plead to board members who will listen and start working on your patch.
2. Come up with the coolest ability ever, and give it to the main character.
4. Ask people to test your game.
5. Begin thinking of other stuff to make every class ridiculously awesome.
6. Add in more awesome stuff.
7. Try thinking up a new storyline.
7.5. Using all of the above information, assemble patch. You may need coders to help actually make the game run properly.
8. Scrap that idea, go to a different forum, repeat.
Tried, tested, true. Trust me.
The only way that idea could be better is if you switched between letters and numbers for labeling steps.
I have a better process!
1. Take that fantasy world idea thingy you've had in your head since childhood and turn it into a patch on fft
2. Ask tons of people for help, when you plan to do 5% of the total sum of the workload
3. Abandon project
I think Voldemort's version is more accurate

This was my exact thought process for my own patch.
Whelp.
Oh! There's a process for making lolpatches?! Now all we need is an lolpatcher... ^_^
I nominate me! But only if we can drop that 5% to a 0% because I have no idea how to do any of the work. ^.^
I do have a tendency to convolute even the simplest of matters.
But now that I think about it, isn't there a longer process when someone actually DOES do the work for you.
Oh wait...
Yeah never mind, you've got it right Arch.
lo;l;
Post this in new projects
Examples of my lolpatch awesome achievements.
i dont think a lolpatch isactually supposed to make you lol, VC
I think it means to do something extrodinarily overpowered and make the game really easy, and then lol at one shotting Angel of Death with a level 1 squire squire.
Of course, your lols are good, i think they miss hte point.
His lols were spot on.........lolz
lol!
is that a target all enemy 999 spell?
1. Lonely anime/comic book/video game nerd has had enough of his life and tries to end it.
2. He jumps off a bridge, and into a fluke space/time anomoly.
3. He wakes up in a hut with two very recognizable faces: Ryu and Ken. Turns out he appeared out of thin air in a field in the middle of a epic battle between Ryu and Gouki(Akuma).
4. Gouki mistakes the residual energy from the teleportation as fighting potential and request Ryu train our main character.
5. Chapter 1 boss: Vega(M. Bison).
6. After another dimension jump the main character is in the Marvel Universe. Befriends Spider-man, among others. Chapter 2 boss: Thanos.
7. Chapter Three: DC Universe. Bangs Power Girl. Boss: Doomsday
8: Chapter Four: Main character is back in his world (with a side quest that takes place in the world of Sailor Moon)
9: Final Boss: 1v1 versus Gouki, who followed the main character across worlds for a fight to the death.
This whole thing would take a shitload of time to edit (Sprites, Maps, Job/Skill changes), so I'm leaving this idea here.

Almost.
But it's hard to get the damage below 999, so it might as well be.

Wait, isn't that what I did with the generic Angel of Death character?
