News:

Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.

PSX FFT Hacking / Re: Steam Job Wheel Discussion

I always wanted a chocobo chemist. They'd be so cute with a hat and saddlebags.

More seriously, the three monster tiers being separate switchable jobs would be pretty neat actually.

Yeah everyone in Dissidia can fly.

Just assume Ramza mastered Bard.

Personally I don't much like the remixes. A bit too remixed to me; I'd like something closer to the originals.

Not to mention it's what he's holding in the full chapter 1 character pose.

Ah, I forgot about that. Yeah, that's where they got the rapier from.

Going straight from the character art seems typical of Dissidia. At least Ramza wasn't drawn by Amano.

I still find it bizarre that he's using a rapier when that weapon type wasn't even in the game. Why not one of the knight swords? The broad, triangle shape is distinctive.

Copies being what they are, I don't see how making them reduces preservation. I presume you'll be as adamant in preserving the data whether others have a copy or not.

Unless I'm missing something and ripping the data literally destroys the original disc.

Alas. Should reconsider once it no longer gets ya any additional viewers.

FFTA/FFTA2 Hacking / Re: Question about hex editing
January 24, 2016, 12:39:42 am
The tool you're looking for is probably called a disassembler (at least that's what I call such a thing in SNES hacking). I don't know much about tools for other systems so I can't point you to one.

Computers obviously work with raw binary data which is what you see in a hex editor. Assembly code is in string format, and needs to be assembled into opcodes and operands by a tool. A tool that converts it all back to assembly would "disassemble" it.

I know I ain't much help but I hope it at least points you in the right direction.

Will you be uploading the iso to the internets?

New user + reasonably out there claim = suspicious...

They're with the random battles, spread near the end of them. The exception is the Serpy battle, which iirc is with the story battles between chapter 1 and 2's.

I always felt FFT could do with more chokepoints. The game's maps have a rather open feeling, which is only exacerbated later by people having access to move +2 and +3. Spells not requiring LOS also add to this.

New Project Ideas / Re: Romantic patch anyone?

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Shipping
QuoteThe term "Shipping" -- which ostensibly derives from "Relationship" (though it might as well be "Worship"; in some fandoms, it's Serious Business) -- was originally coined by fans of The X-Files, who were divided between "relationshippers" pushing for romance and "noromos" who would rather have No Hugging and No Kissing.

As much as TvTropes can be trusted, anyway.

New Project Ideas / Re: Dycedarg's Elder Brother

Let's list the names in the family we do know:

(male)
Balbanes
Ramza
Zalbag
Dycedarg

(female)
Alma

I see no particular pattern. So, choose what you like. The game's names seem vaguely in the style of old European myths, like Beowulf, so maybe some inspiration could be taken from there.

Overwrite a sword skill (or copy all the data from a swordskill to overwrite some other ability), then change the effect animation and stats to your liking.

Well if you just modify bolt 3, then yes anyone who uses it will use the changed ability. If you make a new ability/modify one you're not using, then everything will be fine and won't interfere.
36
For cheat hax characters, I usually just overwrite one of the cadets at the start.
37
Much respect for getting something done! Looks reasonably polished (except maybe the sprite work; the more procedural graphics are great).
38
For all the graphical stuff, here is some tutorials:

http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6702.0
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=10141.0

The rest should be reasonably easy; there are unused jobs you can overwrite and unused skillsets you can make use of. Patcher and tactext should be sufficient.
