Hi, all. Just a few days ago, I started messing with my brand new(not!) Gameshark CDX, and started going to Gamefaqs and trying to make custom characters. I was so happy. Vormav, Kletian, Elmdor, Wiegraf, and many more were asskicking in my name! But then I made the greatest discovery: I had hacked the 20-year old guy(my avatar) and suddenly, I had a character I had never seen (or not paid attention to) to use! Awesome! And he had my name and everything(because of some 'creative character recruitment') I've been lookin at the boards and it seems you guys know everything about this? What do you guys use to hack the game? Do you play FFT on an emulator? I've got so many questions!

Welcome to FFH, most of us use FFT Patcher, available on the main website but there are a few of us who go beyond the confines of the editor (it is truly wonderful but there is always more...) Though what's on your mind?

I only thought you could create characters with a gameshark... how silly of me. I've been f-f-f-fooling around with it(kudos to whoever gets that reference) and 'making' characters. What I mean by 'making' is that I boot up the Gameshark, take a pre-existing code, and change small things (like changing some numbers, bumping them up one) and observing what happens. So, you could say, my knowledge is pretty much non-existent. I'm best at making guest characters that lock up your game if you try to change their equipment...   But I finally got one character right, (me) and made him with a 20YOM sprite and Holy Swordsman skills. So, that's about it... I learned everything from Aerostar's bible on 'Faqs.

While it was useful for it's time, I think we can emulate most of everything in that FAQ, but I never understood... what do you mean locking up the game if you try to change their equipment? As far as I can understand that wouldn't make sense.

I just basically screwed up the code, and it gave me a made-up character(Ch.4 Ramza with name Elmdor, number in roster: 60 something.) Anyway, disregard all that. What do I need to do to start hacking this on the original Playstation?

I take it you don't have an emulator?

no, I don't. A friend of mine showed me ePSXe, but I couldn't get it running and he didn't know what he was talking about.

To start on the playstation I would download FFTPatcher and make all the edits you want (you can edit pretty much evrything) and then look at you gameshark codes but you cant edit events as far as i know.

1- GameShark:
FFTPatcher generates GS codes for whatever you do... note that the list can easily get huge.
BTW, don't try to type all 1.3 changes GS codes in you GS CD, I doubt you can save them all, or even have the time to.

2- Use FFTPatcher and patch your FFT Image, then just burn it... I'm pretty sure there's a code somewhere for gameshark that allwos playing burnt CDs.

3- Play on emulator.

People are lazy these days...

It doesn't even take 5 minutes to make an image of FFT with a 52x drive.

Hey, can CDmage burn CDs playable on the Playstation?  Once Voldemort7 finishes v1.3 (and I finish my event skipper) I want to play it on my big screen!  It's a rather broken screen (break lines across it from unexpected impact) and cuts off the edges, but I got surround on it.

Or do I need a gameshark? I don't have one of those anymore. I lost it >.>
I changed jobs and that has made all the difference.

Pretty much any CD burning software will do, it's just that some won't generate a PSX Image, they'll just make a CD Image and that's not readable by emulators. Lotsa problems with CD Mage though... wait I never had hard of compatibility problems regarding cdprog?
